東京:曳船・向島界隈☆Hikifune & Mukojima in Tokyo (June 3, 2010)
I took a walk in Hikifune and Mukojima area today. It's uptown of Tokyo and you still can find some old Japan there Sumida river and the Sky Tree of the second Tokyo tower are in the area. I found it was really nice place.
曳船・向島に行きました。 すごく空気がゆったりしていて新鮮でした。 隅田川沿いも素敵だった。 古いものが残っている中スカイツリーが新たに風景に加わって何かワクワクしました
A day in Sumida Ward; Following in the footsteps of Hokusai
For the typical foreign tourist to Tokyo, a stop at Asakusa’s temples and souvenir shops is a must. Visitors tend to stop by the edge of the Sumida river and take pictures with the iconic TOKYO SKYTREE℠ in the background. However, not everyone takes the time to cross the Azuma-bashi Bridge into Sumida ward. Home to the imposing TOKYO SKYTREE℠, the other side of the Sumida river is quieter but no less interesting and has an authentic feel to it. While exploring it’s calm streets where you can find with hidden history and art in the most unlikely places, we encountered the spots that served as inspiration for one of the most influential Japanese artists: Katsushika Hokusai.
Mukojima - View Through the Windshield
Mukojima, the lively historic entertainment district located on the banks of the Sumida River also features the romantic Mukojima-Hyakkaen Gardens and Tobu Museum.

Asahi Beer Hall
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Asahi Beer Hall (a.k.a. Super Dry Hall, or Flamme d'Or) is one of the buildings of the Asahi Breweries headquarters located on the east bank of the Sumida River in Sumida, Tokyo, Japan. It was designed by French designer Philippe Starck and was completed in 1989. It is considered one of Tokyo's most recognizable modern structures.
The shape of the building is that of a beer glass, designed to complement the neighboring golden beer mug-shaped building housing the Asahi Breweries offices.
Tokyo Skytree
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Tokyo Skytree (東京スカイツリー Tōkyō Sukaitsurī) is a broadcasting, restaurant, and observation tower in Sumida, Tokyo, Japan. It became the tallest structure in Japan in 2010 and reached its full height of 634.0 metres (2,080 ft) in March 2011, making it the tallest tower in the world, displacing the Canton Tower, and the second tallest structure in the world after Burj Khalifa (829.8 m/2,722 ft).
Led by Tobu Railway and a group of six terrestrial broadcasters headed by NHK, the tower project forms the centrepiece of a large commercial development equidistant from Tokyo Skytree and Oshiage train stations, 7 km (4.3 mi) north-east of Tokyo station. One of its main purposes is to relay television and radio broadcast signals; Tokyo's current facility, Tokyo Tower with a height of 333 m (1,093 ft), no longer gives complete digital terrestrial television broadcasting coverage because it is surrounded by many high-rise buildings. The project was completed on 29 February 2012, with the tower opening to the public on 22 May 2012.

Cherry Blossoms Meet Jellyfish at the Sumida Aquarium in Tokyo Skytree
Spring is one of the most beautiful seasons in Japan as the country becomes decorated with lovely sakura (cherry blossoms). But the delicate blossoms only last for a very short period. Thanks to digital art and projection technology, cherry blossoms can be enjoyed all year round. The Sumida Aquarium has created a special tunnel combining the beauty of kurage (jellyfish) with the delicacy of the sakura (cherry blossoms.) As you walk through the tunnel, the fragrance provides a bit of aromatherapy. It is breathtaking to see the balance and beauty between nature and technology.
This exhibit is for a limited time, but it wouldn't surprise me if it becomes an annual feature at the aquarium.
The aquarium is located in Tokyo Skytree Town which is easily accessed by the following lines and stations: Tokyo Skytree Station (Tobu Skytree line); Oshiage Station (Tobu Skytree, Keisei Oshiage, Asakusa, Hanzomon lines) I've linked the website below.
While you're at the aquarium, why not check out all the great shopping, cafes and restaurants in Tokyo Skytree Town?

Top Things to do in Tokyo with Kids: Tokyo Skytree, Sumida Aquarium, Solamachi, and Sensoji Temple
We loved our Tokyo Family Trip! Traveling to Tokyo with a baby is so much fun! I've just returned from two weeks in Japan with my nine-month-old baby and I assure you my entire family had a wonderful time. I've put together this video highlighting the perfect baby-friendly day in Tokyo featuring some of the most famous attractions! Please enjoy our Tokyo Family Vacation!
We began our morning in Asakusa wandering through Nakamise Shopping Street. If you are looking for souvenirs, this is a great place to buy them.
We walked through the gates to Sensoji Temple. Be sure to check out the holy smoke!
Recharged with some green tea.
Next, we made our way a few blocks to Tokyo Solamachi:
This is a beautiful shopping mall with incredible views of Tokyo Skytree, delicious restaurants and wonderful mommy rooms for nursing and diaper changes.
We enjoyed a spectacular lunch at Solamachi Kunimi restaurant. We almost felt like Skytree was dining with us.
Next, we made our way to our main attraction for the day, Skytree Observation Deck:
Tokyo Skytree (東京スカイツリー Tōkyō Sukaitsurī) is a broadcasting, restaurant and observation tower in Sumida, Tokyo, Japan. It became the tallest structure in Japan in 2010 and reached its full height of 634 meters (2,080 ft) in March 2011, making it the tallest tower in the world!
The views are of course incredible and it is a wonderful way to see the whole city. There are cute photo opportunities set up for families, a cafe and even a fun changing gallery at the very top. While I was there they had a super cool Barbie through the years exhibit and next there will be Hello Kitty.
You can easily get to Tokyo Skytree on Tobu Railway. Trains stop at the adjacent Tokyo Skytree Station and nearby Oshiage Station.
Learn more about wonderful Tobu Railway here:
We ended our day at Sumida Aquarium and it was my baby's first experience at an aquarium! This aquarium was the perfect size and right at Tokyo Skytree too. It was very well organized, full of lots of fun activities and animals of course!
I hope you enjoy this full day of family fun in Tokyo! We also were lucky to visit during the Sakura season when the cherry blossoms were in full bloom!!

Sensō-ji
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sensō-ji (金龍山浅草寺 Kinryū-zan Sensō-ji) is an ancient Buddhist temple located in Asakusa, Taitō, Tokyo, Japan. It is Tokyo's oldest temple, and one of its most significant. Formerly associated with the Tendai sect, it became independent after World War II. Adjacent to the temple is a Shinto shrine, the Asakusa Shrine.
History
The temple is dedicated to the bodhisattva Kannon (Avalokitesvara). According to legend, a statue of the Kannon was found in the Sumida River in 628 by two fishermen, the brothers Hinokuma Hamanari and Hinokuma Takenari. The chief of their village, Hajino Nakamoto, recognized the sanctity of the statue and enshrined it by remodeling his own house into a small temple in Asakusa, so that the villagers could worship the Kannon.
The first temple was built on the site in 645 C.E., which makes it the oldest temple in Tokyo. In the early years of the Tokugawa shogunate, Tokugawa Ieyasu designated Sensō-ji as tutelary temple of the Tokugawa clan.
The Nishinomiya Inari Shrine is located within the precincts of Sensō-ji; and a torii identifies the entry into the hallowed ground of a Shinto shrine. A bronze plaque on the gateway structure lists those who contributed to the construction of the torii, which was erected in 1727 (Kyōhō 12, 11th month).
During World War II, the temple was bombed and for the most part destroyed. It was rebuilt later and is a symbol of rebirth and peace to the Japanese people. In the courtyard there is a tree that was hit by a bomb in the air raids, and it had regrown in the husk of the old tree and is a similar symbol to the temple itself.
Temple grounds
Sensō-ji is the focus of Tokyo's largest and most popular matsuri (Shinto festival), Sanja Matsuri. This takes place over 3--4 days in late spring, and sees the surrounding streets closed to traffic from dawn until late evening.
Dominating the entrance to the temple is the Kaminarimon or Thunder Gate. This imposing Buddhist structure features a massive paper lantern dramatically painted in vivid red-and-black tones to suggest thunderclouds and lightning. Beyond the Kaminarimon is Nakamise-dori with its shops, followed by the Hōzōmon or Treasure House Gate which provides the entrance to the inner complex. Within the precincts stand a stately five-story pagoda and the main hall, devoted to Kannon Bosatsu.
Many tourists, both Japanese and from abroad, visit Sensō-ji every year. Catering to the visiting crowds, the surrounding area has many traditional shops and eating places that feature traditional dishes (hand-made noodles, sushi, tempura, etc.). Nakamise-Dori, the street leading from the Thunder Gate to the temple itself, is lined with small shops selling souvenirs ranging from fans, ukiyo-e (woodblock prints), kimono and other robes, Buddhist scrolls, traditional sweets, to Godzilla toys, t-shirts, and cell-phone straps. These shops themselves are part of a living tradition of selling to pilgrims who walked to Sensō-ji.
Within the temple itself, and also at many places on its approach, there are omikuji stalls. For a suggested donation of 100 yen, visitors may consult the oracle and divine answers to their questions. Querents shake labelled sticks from enclosed metal containers and read the corresponding answers they retrieve from one of 100 possible drawers.
Within the temple is a quiet contemplative garden kept in the distinctive Japanese style.
