Places to see in ( Huntly - UK )
Huntly is a town in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, formerly known as Milton of Strathbogie or simply Strathbogie. It had a population of 4,460 in 2004 and is the site of Huntly Castle. Its neighbouring settlements include Keith and Rothiemay. Both Huntly and the surrounding district of Gordon are named for a town and family that originated in the Border country.
Huntly is the historic home of the Gordon Highlanders regiment which traditionally recruited throughout the North-East of Scotland. Huntly has a primary school (Gordon Primary) and a secondary school (The Gordon Schools) beside Huntly Castle. There is an active cultural centre called Deveron Arts.
It is the home of the Deans bakers, which produce shortbread biscuits. In November 2007, Deans of Huntly opened their new visitor centre. There is also a falconry centre just outside the town which does flying displays in their visitor centre during the season between April and October.
There is salmon and trout fishing on the Rivers Deveron and Bogie, which are administered by the River Deveron Salmon Fisheries Board. Its other principal outdoor activities include golf, Nordic Skiing in Clashindarroch Forest, walking, mountain biking and Rugby. The local football team is Huntly F.C.. Nearby is the start point of Scotland's longest horse ride trail, Highland Horseback, which runs 200 miles to the West Coast. The Eastern Tigers martial arts have a kickboxing club in Huntly and currently use the Pensioners Hall and the Stewarts Hall. They have produced national and international champions.

Riding Through The Cairngorms
Before a brief pitstop in Braemar we headed over the A939 past the ski resort and into some of the most stunning scenery yet. The blue sky and fluffy white clouds helped quite a lot though.....

The Cairnwell
Nothing about this ride went well. I started it with nothing in the tank and struggled to get the pedals turning. By the time I reached the final 12% ramp up to the top I was long past the point of running on empty. On another day this would have been a pleasant ride. The first section is made up of an undulating run through the valley before the road kicks up for the final climb up to the Glenshee ski station. I was really gutted to be riding so badly on the day and I decided to cut my trip to Scotland short after such a poor performance as suffering on this climb made it obvious I would struggle to do well on the remaining climbs. Sometimes you need to know when to beat a hasty retreat and come back with a different approach (and hopefully stronger).
Yla Steven And Marching Pipe Band Highland Games Blackford Perthshire Scotland
Tour Scotland video of Yla Steven, Chieftain of the Games, and a Marching Pipe Band at the Scottish Highland Games in Blackford, Perthshire. Her unusual Christian name is simply the old spelling of Glen Isla in Perthshire, where she had a home in early years. Yla began learning the violin in Edinburgh, at the age of seven, continued her studies in Blairgowrie, Perthshire, and later graduated from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. She is now Musical Director of the Edinburgh Highland Reel and Strathspey Society,
Glenlivet Bike Trails - Mountain Biking in Scotland
Part 1 of 3 from one weekend with the boys riding around a few of the trail centres in the north of Scotland. This was Glenlivet on day 1 and the longest of the three. Riding it blind meant we had to be a bit cautious on some of the drop offs not knowing what was on the other side, but the trail is nice and fast flowing throughout. Great fun if you are up in that neck of the woods!

The eagle eyed would have spotted that in the 4th minute the reported gradient fluctuates violently from -20s to +60%. This is due to the 40mph crosswind gusts affecting the barometric altimeter. It's a tough climb, but not that tough.

Old Military Road A93 & A939 - Ultimate Driving Road
I'm on the hunt for the best driving roads in the UK (maybe even through out Europe).
Old Military Road is my first attempt... This is a road that goes straight through the Cairngorm National Park.
I turned of the A9 towards Pitlochry, drove through Pitlochry and headed through the heart of the Cairngorms, following the A93 towards Glenshee and then following the A939 until you get to the A95, from there you can join the A9 again.
This is got to be one of my favourite roads, it was a great driving experience and definitely want to go back in the summer when it's dry as it was VERY windy and wet so I couldn't drive as spirited as I hoped.
If you have any suggestions where I can go next for my hunt for the ultimate driving road then feel free to comment below.
