The Tongariro Alpine Crossing: Alpine Tramping (Hiking) Series | New Zealand
The Tongariro Alpine Crossing is one of the most incredible day walks in the world. Although beautiful, it can be dangerous if you are not fully prepared to enter an alpine environment. Extreme weather, terrain and distance have resulted in this track having the highest number of search and rescues for trampers in New Zealand. This video takes you through the entire track and shows you how to prepare for a successful day out so that you make it home safely.

Tongariro Alpine Crossing - Living a Kiwi Life - Ep. 29
The Tongariro Alpine Crossing in New Zealand is incredible! We made it even better with a summit of Mount Ngaurahoe (Mt Doom from Lord of the Rings) and ventured onto the Tongariro Northern Circuit Great Walk to stay one night at the Oturere hut (a few kms off the Alpine Crossing track) turning the Crossing into a 2-day walk and maximizing our adventure. If you have gear to stay overnight this is an amazing option to consider. The section between the Alpine Crossing and the Oturere hut is one of the coolest parts of the Tongariro Northern Circuit (because it looks like Mordor). Not to be taken lightly the Alpine Crossing is long at 19.4km and is a lot of up and down. Bring lots of water! Add 3 hours if you plan to tackle Mount Doom, which we highly recommend :)

Tongariro Alpine Crossing - Travel New Zealand - Tongariro National Park, North Island
Along with a big group of international students from Victoria University we completed one of the most famous walks in New Zealand, The Tongariro Crossing. A small group of us detoured up to the Tongariro Summit and were rewarded with wine by a couple of cheerful tourists. The detour to the summit of Ngauruhoe is no longer advertised due to it being overused and disrespected in the past. Make sure you have your transportation planned (there and back) as parking rules have recently changed! Look out for the forecast as people have been known to get caught in bad weather up on the ridges here. For more information look on the DOC website:

Tongariro Alpine Crossing | VAN LIFE NEW ZEALAND
Hello, hello and hello!
This week we embarked on a mission to tackle the Tongariro Alpine Crossing. Located in the Tongariro National Park, which is one of New Zealand’s oldest national parks. After some ‘careful’ research, it was apparent that this was going to be quite the experience, and was considered to be one of the best one day hikes in the world.
This challenging trip begins at 1120 metres, with an ascent up the Mangatepopo Valley towards the saddle between Mount Tongariro and Mount Ngauruhoe. Continuing through the South Crater, another steep climb leads you to the Red Crater, the highest point on the crossing at 1886 metres.
You will then descend on a volcanic rock track to the vivid Emerald Lakes, known as Nga Rotopounamu (greenstone-hued lakes). After passing Blue Lake, also known as Te Wai-whakaata-o-te-Rangihiroa (Rangihiroa’s mirror), the track sidles around the northern slope of Tongariro, then descends in a zigzag track down to the road end at 760 metres.
After a very chilled day of recovery, we both came to reflect that this was easily one of the best hikes we’ve ever been on. The diversity of the ecosystem is certainly something to behold. All in all, the hike took us 6.5 hours!

To wrap up 2019 we hiked the Round The Mountain track in Tongariro National Park, New Zealand. We pushed hard to complete the 66km round trip of Mount Ruapehu in 3 days, walking through some of the most awesome alpine environments and enjoying typical Kiwi tramping and hut culture along the way.

I have been in April 2017 to do the track with my girlfriend and the show was just awesome.
This is the most popular day hike in the country and now i know why!
19.4 km hike was amazing trip in my life, everything are beautifull, it's feel like if you are on another world, around you everything are breathtaking.

The Tongariro Crossing - Tongariro National Park, New Zealand
A short montage of our 8 hr, 20km volcanic journey known as The Tongariro Crossing.
The journey starts with a climb up a live volcano, Tongariro, with Mt. Doom (AKA Mt. Ruapehu) towering over the whole time.
The climb continues upward to the Red Crater, past the Emerald Lakes, by the Blue Pool and down the other side.
