Places to see in ( Valencia - Spain )
The port city of Valencia lies on Spain’s southeastern coast, where the Turia River meets the Mediterranean Sea. It’s known for its City of Arts and Sciences, with futuristic structures including a planetarium, an oceanarium and an interactive museum. Valencia also has several beaches, including some within nearby Albufera Park, a wetlands reserve with a lake and walking trails.
Valencia was founded as a Roman colony by the consul Decimus Junius Brutus Callaicus in 138 BC, and called Valentia Edetanorum. In 714 Moroccan and Arab Moors occupied the city, introducing their language, religion and customs; they implemented improved irrigation systems and the cultivation of new crops as well, being capital of the Taifa of Valencia. In 1238 the Christian king James I of Aragon reconquered the city and divided the land among the nobles who helped him conquer it, as witnessed in the Llibre del Repartiment. He also created a new law for the city, the Furs of Valencia, which were extended to the rest of the Kingdom of Valencia.
The city is situated on the banks of the Turia, on the east coast of the Iberian Peninsula, fronting the Gulf of Valencia on the Mediterranean Sea. Its historic centre is one of the largest in Spain, with approximately 169 hectares; this heritage of ancient monuments, views and cultural attractions makes Valencia one of the country's most popular tourist destinations. Valencia is integrated into an industrial area on the Costa del Azahar (Orange Blossom Coast). Valencia's main festival is the Falles. The traditional Spanish dish, paella, originated in Valencia.
Valencia stands on the banks of the Turia River, located on the eastern coast of the Iberian Peninsula and the western part of the Mediterranean Sea, fronting the Gulf of Valencia. At its founding by the Romans, it stood on a river island in the Turia, 6.4 km (4 mi) from the sea.
Many local landmarks were restored, including the ancient Towers of the medieval city (Serrans Towers and Quart Towers), and the Sant Miquel dels Reis monastery (es:Monasterio de San Miguel de los Reyes), which now holds a conservation library. Whole sections of the old city, for example the Carmen Quarter, have been extensively renovated. The Paseu Marítim, a 4 km (2 mi) long palm tree-lined promenade was constructed along the beaches of the north side of the port (Platja de Les Arenes, Platja del Cabanyal and Platja de la Malva-rosa). The city has numerous convention centres and venues for trade events, among them the Feria Valencia Convention and Exhibition Centre (Institución Ferial de Valencia) and the Palau de congres (Conference Palace), and several 5-star hotels to accommodate business travelers.
In its long history, Valencia has acquired many local traditions and festivals, among them the Falles, which were declared Celebrations of International Tourist Interest (Festes de Interés Turístic Internacional) on 25 January 1965 and UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage of humanity list on 30 November 2016, and the Water Tribunal of Valencia (Tribunal de les Aigües de València), which was declared an intangible cultural heritage of humanity (Patrimoni Cultural Inmaterial de la Humanitat) in 2009.

Moors and Christians Parade - Calle La Paz, Valencia, Spain - October 9, 2012
Parade of moros y cristianos, which represents the battle between Arabs and Christians for centuries, until 1492 when the Catholic Kings (Reyes Católicos) won the battle in Granada against the Arabs and all Spain was Christian again. The moros y cristianos parade is more famous in Alcoy on April 23rd, Saint George day, but they also do more parades like this in another cities of the Valencian Community.
Another popular tradition of October 9th is Mocaorà. In Valencian, mocaor is kerchief or scarf. The tradition is that the guy gives a scarf to his love that day with some mazapán (marzipan) inside. The sweets are piuleta, tronador and marzipan fruit-shaped. You may see a lot of scarfs and marzipan on the bakeries these days. They only bake them for October 9th.

A city that stylishly combines tradition and modernity, with charming traditional quarters such as the Barrio del Carmen, unique spaces such as the Central Market, the Plaza de la Virgen and Plaza de la Reina squares, with El Miguelete bell tower and the Cathedral standing guard over them... and in contrast, the modernity of the impressive City of Arts and Sciences and its extensive range of culture and leisure alternatives.

Torre vigía del Cap d'Or

View from Micalet Tower of the Valencia Cathedral, Valencia, Spain
If you’re visiting the Valencia Cathedral, consider climbing the 207 steps of Torre del Micalet (The Micalet Tower). This 13th century bell tower takes its name from the main clock bell, el Micalet. At 167 feet tall, the view from the terrace is worth the climb, though on a warm day it can be stuffy in the tower. From the top you’ll get to see el Micalet up close. He’s one of 12 bells in the tower, dates back to 1539, and weighs in at over 24,000 pounds. You’ll also get a nice view of Valencia’s cityscape with the blue tiled domes of the cathedral and other churches nearby, and the Med Sea in the distance to the east.

Beautiful San Juan festival in Alicante, Valencia,Spain
Bonfires of San Juan (Alicante)
Alicante celebrates the arrival of the summer with the Bonfires of San Juan. Surrounded by music, color, gunpowder and spectacle, thousands of people go out into the streets to live this fire-worshiping feast.
To celebrate the summer's arrival, Alicante traditionally went to the country to dine on June 23: they ate typical products and when it was midnight they would light fires, dance around them, launch rockets and bathe in the sea. This custom was maintained with the time and in 1928 was formed of formal way like the celebrations of Hogueras of San Juan. For several days, Alicante celebrates this grandiose tribute to fire, in which the main protagonists are real ephemeral works of art: the bonfires, the huge figures of cardboard and wood that burn in the night of San Juan.

Plaza del Ayuntamiento, Valencia 2016
Literally translated “Town Hall Square”, the grandiose Plaza del Ayuntamiento is the main square in Valencia and probably the best starting point from which to visit the city.Home to some of the most representative administrative buildings in Valencia, Plaza del Ayuntamiento features an outstanding mix of Spanish architectural styles.
Dominating the square are the stunning neoclassical Town Hall (Ayuntamiento) and the magnificent Central Post Office (Edificio de Correos), designed by architect Miguel Angel Navarro in a beautiful eclectic style that combines striking Modernista features with lavish baroque-inspired interiors.Plaza del Ayuntamiento is also a favorite venue for celebrating local events and festivities, from post-game tailgating parties, Christmas Nativity scenes, and the Region of Valencia Day to the annual Fallas Festival, when the entire place is bursting with energy and spectacular mascletas (explosive pyrotechnic displays).
