A RARE look Inside a Shinto Shrine for Autumn Festival, Japan 2017
Autumn Festival on Shikoku Island, Japan 2017.
This is a once a year festival where the men in the community participate in a blessing ceremony at the mountain Shinto shrine. During the ceremony the gods enter into small shrines that act as the gods' vehicles. The men then carry the small shrines and the gods through the community to survey the land, homes and people. I'm told that the farmers' crops are more abundant afterwards. But, due to rains this year, the gods and community leader decided to stay indoors, so only the hour long blessing ceremony (which I did not film out of respect) was performed.
