Places to see in ( Valencia - Spain ) Museo de Bellas Artes de Valencia
The Museu de Belles Arts de València is an art gallery in Valencia, Spain, founded in 1913. It houses some 2,000 works, most dating from the 14th-17th centuries, including a Self portrait of Diego Velázquez, a St. John the Baptist by El Greco, Goya's Playing Children, Gonzalo Pérez's Altarpiece of Sts. Ursula, Martin and Antony and a Madonna with Writing Child and Bishop by the Italian Renaissance master Pinturicchio. It also houses a large series of engravings by Giovan Battista Piranesi.
The Museo de Bellas Artes de Valencia is housed in the St. Pius V Palace, built in the 17th-18th centuries. It has also sections dedicated to sculpture, to contemporary art and to archaeological findings.
The Museum of Fine Arts of Valencia is the most important museum reference of the Valencian Community. From its opening in 1839 until the present time, almost two centuries have passed, in which it has witnessed numerous avatars united to the historical future of the city of Valencia. Fundamentally his artistic collections are formed by a large gallery, with works by Jacomart, Joan Reixach, Paolo de San Leocadio, Joan de Joanes, Francisco Ribalta, Jerónimo Jacinto de Espinosa, José de Ribera, Diego Velázquez, Bartolomé Esteban Murillo, Francisco de Goya , Vicente López, Ignacio Pinazo, Joaquín Sorolla, Antonio Muñoz Degraín and Cecilio Pla. It also has a large collection of drawings and engravings, as well as sculptures, archaeological pieces, architectural fragments, photographs and decorative arts.
The origin of the Museum is related to the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Carlos, which was approved by King Charles III in 1768. A small nucleus of works with the donations of teachers and students , all of which would become the first important contribution of the future museum. In 1812, with the French occupation of Valencia, Marshal Luis Gabriel Suchet, wanting to attract the Napoleonic cause to the most influential corporations of the city, expressed his desire to form a museum with the paintings, sculptures, medals and books requisitioned to the convents of regulars. Recovered the peace and restored the national government in 1813, the works of art were returned to their respective places of origin.

Get the full details on Valencia, Spain in our Country Haven Report:
Valencia’s story begins around 960 with the Muslim Caliphate of Cordoba. But its history goes back even further with documented history of over 2,000 years, having been founded by the Romans around 140 B.C. In the 8th century the Moors absorbed Valencia, ruling for the next five centuries, with a brief Christian interlude in the 1090s.
Valencia’s Moorish era brought a rich period of growth in agriculture, arts, and science, laying the foundation for the city’s expansion and development for centuries.
Valencia wears its history on its architectural sleeve. Its Roman, Muslim, and early Christian past is all over, as well as its Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque city at heart. With such a rich and varied history, Valencia is a fascinating mix of cultures.
Valencia is well-located, with fantastic communications links to the rest of Europe. France and the ski-slopes of tiny, tax-free Andorra are under a five-hour drive and the rock of Gibraltar is also within easy reach.
Life in Spain is timed to fit around food and eating. The pace of life is governed by natural phenomena such as the sun and mealtimes. Food is an important part of culture here, and Valencia is known as the Orange Blossom Coast due to its extensive citrus groves.
With an average temperature of around 70°F year round, Valencia has perfect weather conditions for an active, healthy and varied lifestyle. This part of the Western Mediterranean has some of the finest beaches in southern Europe. The mountains are within easy reach and the Valencian Community offers excursions to national parks and other sites of historical and cultural interest.
To get a good sense of Valencian culture, go watch some Flamenco. This is something you should do at least once. It costs around 38 euros each, including a full dinner of several courses with a pitcher of Sangria or beer and the show.
Valencia offers theater-goers, music-lovers, and culture-vultures a plethora of variety and venues, from the Berklee affiliated Palau de la Musica (the Palace of Music) where you can hear world class jazz, to hip clubs and live-music bars.
The Valencian community is famous for its highly individualistic festivals and celebrations and many local and religious events. Museums and other cultural and historic attractions here are free or cost just a euro or two. An all-day museum pass costs 6 euros. A round of golf at any of several Valencia golf clubs costs anywhere between 30 to 75 euros.
There has been a large growth in the foreign population over the last decade, with Romanians, Bolivians, Ecuadoreans, Colombians, and Moroccans turning Valencia into a cosmopolitan city. According to the Sociedad Americano, there are 1,500 U.S. citizens officially resident in Valencia; however, it is thought that many more aren’t actually registered.
Valencia has been overlooked as a serious contender for retirement or investment, but it enjoys a wonderful climate, vibrant lifestyle, and great location and communications to the rest of Europe, on top of a highly affordable cost of living.

Places to see in ( Valencia - Spain )
The port city of Valencia lies on Spain’s southeastern coast, where the Turia River meets the Mediterranean Sea. It’s known for its City of Arts and Sciences, with futuristic structures including a planetarium, an oceanarium and an interactive museum. Valencia also has several beaches, including some within nearby Albufera Park, a wetlands reserve with a lake and walking trails.
Valencia was founded as a Roman colony by the consul Decimus Junius Brutus Callaicus in 138 BC, and called Valentia Edetanorum. In 714 Moroccan and Arab Moors occupied the city, introducing their language, religion and customs; they implemented improved irrigation systems and the cultivation of new crops as well, being capital of the Taifa of Valencia. In 1238 the Christian king James I of Aragon reconquered the city and divided the land among the nobles who helped him conquer it, as witnessed in the Llibre del Repartiment. He also created a new law for the city, the Furs of Valencia, which were extended to the rest of the Kingdom of Valencia.
The city is situated on the banks of the Turia, on the east coast of the Iberian Peninsula, fronting the Gulf of Valencia on the Mediterranean Sea. Its historic centre is one of the largest in Spain, with approximately 169 hectares; this heritage of ancient monuments, views and cultural attractions makes Valencia one of the country's most popular tourist destinations. Valencia is integrated into an industrial area on the Costa del Azahar (Orange Blossom Coast). Valencia's main festival is the Falles. The traditional Spanish dish, paella, originated in Valencia.
Valencia stands on the banks of the Turia River, located on the eastern coast of the Iberian Peninsula and the western part of the Mediterranean Sea, fronting the Gulf of Valencia. At its founding by the Romans, it stood on a river island in the Turia, 6.4 km (4 mi) from the sea.
Many local landmarks were restored, including the ancient Towers of the medieval city (Serrans Towers and Quart Towers), and the Sant Miquel dels Reis monastery (es:Monasterio de San Miguel de los Reyes), which now holds a conservation library. Whole sections of the old city, for example the Carmen Quarter, have been extensively renovated. The Paseu Marítim, a 4 km (2 mi) long palm tree-lined promenade was constructed along the beaches of the north side of the port (Platja de Les Arenes, Platja del Cabanyal and Platja de la Malva-rosa). The city has numerous convention centres and venues for trade events, among them the Feria Valencia Convention and Exhibition Centre (Institución Ferial de Valencia) and the Palau de congres (Conference Palace), and several 5-star hotels to accommodate business travelers.
In its long history, Valencia has acquired many local traditions and festivals, among them the Falles, which were declared Celebrations of International Tourist Interest (Festes de Interés Turístic Internacional) on 25 January 1965 and UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage of humanity list on 30 November 2016, and the Water Tribunal of Valencia (Tribunal de les Aigües de València), which was declared an intangible cultural heritage of humanity (Patrimoni Cultural Inmaterial de la Humanitat) in 2009.

The Prehistory Museum of Valencia is a museum of the city of Valencia that exposes archaeological materials covering from Paleolithic to the Visigoths period. From 1982 it has been part of The Old House of Charity, built in 1841 which highlights the Byzantine style church built in 1881. The Font de Mussa Mosaic is one of the most highlighted pieces.
In 1995 began the complete restoration of the building, carried out by the architect Rafael Rivera. The House of Charity, now the Museum of Prehistory, has a ground floor and two stories arranged around five courtyards. On the ground floor are located the shop, cafeteria, two temporary exhibition rooms, workshops, warehouses and the Restoration and Quaternary Wildlife laboratories, as well as offices of the Prehistoric Research Service, while the Church has become the Hall. On the first floor are the Library and the Permanent Facilities dedicated to Paleolithic Neolithic and Bronze Age. On the second floor permanent galleries devoted to the Iberian culture and the Roman World.
The Prehistory Research Service (Servicio de Investigación Prehistórica, SIP) of the Diputación of Valencia and the Museum of Prehistory are founded in 1927 at the request of Isidro Ballester Tormo as a scientific institution dedicated to research, preserve and promote the archaeological heritage of Valencia. In the museum have worked some of the most notable archaeologists of Spain Lluís Pericot Domingo Fletcher or Enrique Pla, who directed the SIP, or Miquel Tarradell Miracles Gil-Mascarell or Carmen Aranegui, who worked closely with this service. Since its creation, the SIP developed an intense archaeological field work as in the Bastide de les Alcuses of Mogente, the Black Cave of Játiva, the Cova del Parpalló of Gandía or Tossal de Sant Miquel of Liria. The materials obtained from these excavations soon formed a collection whose scientific and heritage value has made the SIP and its museum one of the most important in Spain.

Places to see in ( Valencia - Spain ) Fallas Museum
In the current Museo Fallero (Fallas Museum) there remain principally those ninots indultats that, across the times, have been saved from the flames by popular vote and, in minor scale, saved by some Fallas Queens and Fallas Presidents, or by the so-called Raga awards.
Moreover, the announcer posters of the most important fallas of the year are exposed, as well as other elements of interest relating to the Fallas world. The installation of almost the totality of the ninots saved along the years will make the visitor see the festival evolution, observing from the first ninots which had wax head and hands and dressed with real clothes to the last and new ninots, made of papier-mâché and polystirene.
The Central Fallas Comission has made possible for the Fallas festival to show all that it deserves, through the Fallas artists and commissions best works, which constitute the alive history of a festival declared to be of International Tourist Interest.

Running through the centre of Valencia is the 'Jardins del Turia'. The Turia Gardens follows the old river-bed that once ran through the centre of the city. It was diverted to make this amazing facility for the community made up of football grounds, concert halls, arts centres as well as a tremendous green and shady spot where families picnic or cycle.
Valencia: The Silk Road
I went out and reported a feature story on the significance of the history of silk production in Valencia, also known as the ‘City of Silk’, and how it is still prevalent till this day.
