Old Town Scottsdale
I drove dog rescue with a Giant Schnauzer, Spencer, on Sun 7/12 which gave me an excuse to drive all the way to Phoenix. Normally our runs are around 2 hours. But hey what the heck. I got to visit with my good friend, Pamela Herrington, whom was my loan officer when we both lived in Hawaii. I stayed at the retro Valley Ho hotelvalleyho.com in Old Town which is convenient to walking all over Old Town. The bartender there btw makes excellent Bloody Marys! The pictures you see came from a recommended walking art tour. I added the metal bench cause with it being 108 degrees outside, my thought at the time was What in the HELL were they thinking and notice nobody was sitting! The Walking Tour itinerary said it would take about an hour but I think it took me about 4 - only because I had to go inside - alot. They have a really nice library with a snack bar! Since I wore a blister, I hopped the trolley for the ride back. Nice cool ride back! And the driver pointed out some future eating places! The last picture is of Zona, another passenger, but really not rescue as he was going to his home in PA. He was a very good boy and stayed all night since the kennel was closed by the time I arrived home. Overall a nice little get-a-way!

Scottsdale is a desert city in Arizona east of state capital Phoenix. It's known for its spa resorts and golf courses, including TPC Scottsdale. Farther north, trails wind through McDowell Sonoran Preserve, a desertscape of hills, rock formations and cacti. Nearby is Taliesin West, architect Frank Lloyd Wright’s former home and studio. Downtown's Old Town Scottsdale has 1920s buildings and 19th-century olive trees.
Scottsdale is home to many galleries, high quality resorts, and golf courses. It is also one of the wealthier parts of the Phoenix Metro Area. High end shopping destinations are one of the primary attractions of the city. For example, the Fashion Square Mall is near downtown Scottsdale and is one of the biggest malls in the United States. The extensive galleries to the west of the downtown also offer upscale shopping and strolling. The galleries in this area display works both from local artists and from around the world.
The Old Town section of Scottsdale is to the east of the gallery district. It showcases swanky upscale style as well as a caricature of the gruff American West. Well over half the shops are gift shops. However, it is fun enough for a browse in a Disneyland sort of way.
Both Old Town and Downtown Scottsdale possess an dazing array of bars, nightclubs, pool clubs and chic eateries. Nicknamed the Beverly Hills of the Desert, Scottsdale is second to none in terms of opportunity for high-end debauchery.
The valley of the sun has over 130 miles of canals. Most of them were built in the last 100 years to provide water for the irrigation of farm land. However, now that the valley is much less agrarian the canals are primarily used to carry away storm water. Some are also used to generate hydroelectric power.
These often overlooked gems are open to the public. One can take in the beautiful desert scenery and fresh air while strolling along them. They provide walkers, joggers, and bikers with a nice refuge from traffic. But don't try swimming in the canals, aside from being an obvious bad idea because the sides are so steep it is also illegal, along with motorized vehicles.
