They know your legal name, where you live — even if you're about to fall in love. Now, Facebook wants to know your credit score. Facebook has just received a patent that would allow lenders to use your social graph when examining a loan application. What does that mean in practice? If your friends have low credit scores, you could get denied for your loan. Of course, this hasn't come to pass yet. But with more and more lenders moving towards these updated algorithms, the likelihood of discrimination gets higher. Steve, the author of the video, gives several useful suggestions to resolve this problem. First of all, one should look at the turning factors when it comes to scoring his credit. Payment history is the most important one. 35% of FICO score is based on payment history, so if you pay on time, your score will never be dropped on hundred points. Next, one should pay attention on the Amounts Owed, which takes 30% of FICO score. The rule №1 – don't keep 'max out credit cards'. If it happens, try to pay these accounts down. If you pay your accounts down to 20% or lower, then you will see a quick bust in your credit score within the next month. The length of the credit history is also important. The author suggests to think twice before closing your old accounts. Your old accounts are usually the most valuable ones. Political Documentary Filmmaker in Cold War America: Emile de Antonio Interview
Emile Francisco de Antonio (May 14, 1919 -- December 16, 1989) was an American director and producer of documentary films, usually detailing political or social events circa 1960s--1980s. About his films:
He has been referred to by scholars and critics alike, and arguably remains, ...the most important political filmmaker in the United States during the Cold War.
de Antonio was born in 1919 in in the coal-mining town of Scranton, Pennsylvania. His father, Emilio de Antonio, an Italian immigrant, fostered the lifelong interests of Antonio by passing on his own love for philosophy, classical literature, history and the arts. Although his intelligence allowed him the privilege of attended Harvard University alongside future-president John F. Kennedy, he was also familiar with the working class experience, making his living at various points in his life as a peddler, a book editor, and the captain of a river barge (among other duties).
After serving in the military during World War II as a bomber pilot, de Antonio returned to the United States where he frequented the art crowd, often associating with such Pop artists as Jasper Johns, Robert Rauschenberg, and Andy Warhol, in whose film Drink de Antonio appears. Warhol was famously quoted praising de Antonio with the words, Everything I learned about painting, I learned from De.
The book Necessary Illusions (1989) by Noam Chomsky and the documentary Manufacturing Consent: Noam Chomsky and the Media (1992) by Mark Achbar and Peter Wintonick are dedicated to Emile de Antonio.

Words at War: Faith of Our Fighters: The Bid Was Four Hearts / The Rainbow / Can Do
Wanda Wasilewska (21 January 1905 -- 29 July 1964) was a Polish and Soviet novelist and communist political activist who played an important role in the creation of a Polish division of the Soviet Red Army during World War II and the formation of the People's Republic of Poland.
She had fled the German attack on Warsaw in September 1939 and taken up residence in Soviet-occupied Lviv and eventually the Soviet Union.
Wasilewska was born on 25 January 1905 in Kraków, Austria-Hungary. Her father was Leon Wasilewski, a Polish Socialist Party politician. She studied philosophy at the Warsaw University and Polish language and Polish literature at the Jagiellonian University in Kraków. After she graduated she remained at her alma mater and passed her doctorate exams in 1927. While studying she started cooperation with the Union of Socialist Youth and Society of Workers' Universities.
Soon after she finished her studies she started working as a school teacher and a journalist for various left-wing newspapers, among them Naprzód, Robotnik, Dziennik Popularny and Oblicze Dnia. She also became the chairperson of the Płomyk and Płomyczek monthlies for children, where she introduced Soviet propaganda. Although she was often criticised for her radical left-wing opinions, she joined the PPS instead of the communist party, where she was soon promoted to a member of the main party council. In her early political career she supported an alliance of all the left-wing parties with the communists against the ruling Sanacja. She was also an active supporter of many strikes in Poland. During one of the demonstrations in Kraków she met Marian Bogatko, whom she later married.
After the Polish defeat in the Polish Defensive War of 1939 and the partition of Poland into Soviet and German occupied zones, she moved to Lviv where she automatically became a Soviet citizen. The Gestapo — acting at the request of the NKVD — helped to transfer her daughter and her furniture from Warsaw to Lviv.[1] She became a member of various communist organisations uniting local Polish and Ukrainian communists. She was also a journalist for the Czerwony Sztandar (Red Banner), a Soviet propaganda newspaper printed in Polish language. In early 1940, Joseph Stalin awarded her a seat in the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. She also became the chair of the Dramatic Theatre in Lviv. After the German invasion of the Soviet Union Wasilewska fled advancing Nazi army and joined the Red Army as a war correspondent and a functionary of the Political Commandment (Politupravleniye) of the Red Army. She held the military rank of a colonel.[2] She was also one of the founders (together with Jerzy Putrament) of the Nowe Widnokręgi monthly.
After consultations with Stalin (and most probably by his direct order) she became the head of the newly formed Związek Patriotów Polskich (Society of Polish Patriots), a Soviet-created provisional government that was to control Poland. In 1944 she also became the deputy chief of the Polish Committee of National Liberation (PKWN), another provisional government which was also sponsored by the Soviet Union and opposing the Polish government in exile as the legal government of Poland. She favoured the incorporation of Poland as a republic of the Soviet Union.
After most of Poland was occupied by the Red Army she decided to stay in the Soviet Union. She also became involved in a relationship with Ukrainian playwright Oleksandr Korniychuk, with whom she moved to Kiev.
Although both her Russian and Ukrainian language abilities were very limited, she remained a member of the Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Union for several decades. She did not return to public life, however. She died on July 29, 1964 in Kiev. She is buried in the Baikove Cemetery.
She was triple recipient of the Stalin prize for literature (1943, 1946, 1952). During the life of Joseph Stalin she was considered a classic writer of Soviet literature and her works were included into the school curriculum throughout the Soviet Union, but she was almost completely forgotten after his death.
The Refuse Of The Federal Spending Binge II
The Refuse Of The Federal Spending Binge II - House Oversight Committee - 2011-03-03 - House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. Thursday's hearing of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, entitled Waste and Abuse: The Refuse of the Federal Spending Binge II: How U.S. Taxpayers are Paying Double for Failing Government Programs, will examine the waste associated with duplicative federal initiatives. On Tuesday, March 1, 2011, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) released its first annual report to Congress about redundant programs, agencies, and offices in the federal government. According to the report, taxpayers are now double-funding a wide array of programs, from food safety systems to surface transportation and employment training. While some of these programs are worthy endeavors that meet the government's basic responsibilities, the fragmented approach of federal departments and agencies to meet these goals demands immediate reform. Witnesses: The Honorable Thomas M. Davis III, Director of Federal Government Affairs, Deloitte & Touche LLP; The Honorable Gene L. Dodaro, Comptroller General of the United States, U.S. Government Accountability Office; Ms. Ryan Alexander, President, Taxpayers for Common Sense; The Honorable Jacob J. Lew (invited), Director, Office of Management and Budget.Video provided by U.S. House of Representatives.
Attorney and Progressive Civil Rights Leader: Arthur Kinoy Interview
Arthur Kinoy (September 20, 1920-September 19, 2003), was an attorney and progressive civil rights leader who became a professor of law at the Rutgers School of Law—Newark. He was one of the founders of the Center for Constitutional Rights and successfully argued before the Supreme Court of the United States.
Kinoy was born on September 29, 1920 in New York City. He is an alumnus of Harvard University (A.B., 1941), where he graduated magna cum laude, and of Columbia University (LL.B., 1947). As a student at Harvard, Kinoy was a member of the national executive committee of the American Student Union.
Kinoy was attorney for the United Electrical, Radio and Machine Workers of America (UE), labeled a Communist-controlled union by the segregationist Mississippi Sen. James O. Eastland's Senate Internal Security Subcommittee (SISS). He took an active part in the defense of Ethel and Julius Rosenberg, who were executed on June 19, 1953, after conviction of atomic espionage. Kinoy made two last-minute efforts to save the Rosenbergs from execution. In the 1950s, he was associated with the law firm of Donner, Kinoy & Perlin, attorneys for such left-wing groups as the Committee for Justice for Morton Sobell and Labor Youth League.
Kinoy was a member of the National Lawyers Guild, serving as national vice president in 1954. In 1964, Kinoy participated in a conference sponsored by the National Lawyers Guild's Committee for Legal Assistance in the South, to brief attorneys on legal problems confronting civil rights demonstrators in Mississippi. He and his partner, William Kunstler, were two of the most prominent attorneys to handle civil rights cases in the south in the 1960s.
In 1964, Kinoy became a professor of law at Rutgers University. From 1964 to 1967 he was a partner in the law firm of Kunstler, Kunstler & Kinoy of New York City. He was counsel for the Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) and the Southern Conference Educational Fund. He was also affiliated with the Emergency Civil Liberties Committee. In 1966, he was a speaker at the annual dinner of the National Guardian newspaper. He did legal work for the American Civil Liberties Union.
In 1966, Kinoy was removed from a hearing of the House Committee on Un-American Activities and subsequently convicted of disorderly conduct. In 1968, the U.S. Court of Appeals overturned the conviction.
As the New York Times stated in its obituary, Mr. Kinoy was involved in a number of landmark legal verdicts. In 1965, he successfully argued the case of Dombrowski v. Pfister before the Supreme Court, which empowered federal district court judges to stop enforcement of laws that had 'a chilling effect' on free speech. In a subsequent case, Dombrowski v. Senator Eastland, he established that the Counsel of the Senate Internal Security Committee was not immune from suits for violations of citizens' civil rights. In 1972, the Supreme Court upheld his contention that President Richard M. Nixon had no 'inherent power' to wiretap domestic political organizations.
Kinoy was one of the founders of the Women's Rights Law Reporter, the first legal periodical to focus exclusively on women's rights.
Kinoy was married to Barbara S.Webster at his death. He had previously married and was divorced from Susan Knopf. He died on September 19, 2003 at the age of 82 at his home in New Jersey. He was survived by two children from his first marriage, as well as by his younger brother Ernest Kinoy, a prominent television and film screenwriter.

Can Those Be Men? - The Prisoner of War Experience in 1864 (Lecture)
Dan Welch of the Gettysburg Foundation presents his Winter Lecture at Gettysburg National Military Park. Entering the fourth year of the Civil War and with the cessation of prisoner exchange by Gen. Ulysses S. Grant, previously established temporary prisoner of war camps ballooned beyond capacity prompting construction of new pens in 1864 by both Union and Confederate authorities. With increased numbers of prisoners came explosions of disease, illness, and death. Trace the prisoner of war experience in 1864 through diaries, journals, and letters from soldiers both Nrth and South.
