Italy: Rome & Amalfi Coast
This is a slideshow of our trip to Italy in May of 2013. Incredible country! We stayed in Rome and Sorrento on the Amalfi Coast (seriously one of the most beautiful places in the world!), and we took day trips to Positano, the Isle of Capri, Mount Vesuvius and Pompeii. We'll definitely be back one day!
Rick Steves' European Easter: Carnival in Venice
In this segment of Rick Steves’ European Easter, we don masquerade masks to drop in on Carnevale festivities in Venice. Watch the full one-hour special on your local public television station or visit

The Way of the Shopping Cart
An old Chinese couple who live directly across the street from me doing the rounds with a shopping cart.
They live with their son, who is self employed and does quite well. They regularly 'borrow' shopping carts from the local super market, go out and 'recycle' things, and then leave the shopping cart in their front yard right at the sidewalk, for the city boys to come and pick up.
I guess it gives them something to do. Nice folks and all - absolutely NO ENGLISH. It's interesting, because the old lady comes up to me and has 'conversations' with me, to which I always reply 'Bu chi dou' (I don't understand). I have no idea what she talks about, but that doesn't seem to matter. Some day I'll have to learn enough Chinese to hold a simple conversation with her.
116 – Living the Tuscan Dream with Pam Mercer of Tuscany Tours
Free Download on How to Start Your Business
Tuscany Tours is a small business owned and operated by Pam Mercer and her husband, Sam Hilt. They work and live in a small hilltop town near Siena, Italy.
It all started with a trip from California to Tuscany just over 25 years ago. Little did they know that this experience would change their thinking and change their lives.
Their first official Tuscany tour was in 1997 and they’ve been growing ever since.
Pam calls it a privilege to receive travelers and share the beautiful countries of Italy and France. In groups of no more than 16, she connects her travelers to local places and people, tastes and traditions.
Pam calls it magical and I can see why!

Ep. 76: And The Writer Is...Paul Anka!
This legendary guest is an acclaimed songwriter, entertainer, and actor. Born and raised in Ottawa, Canada, the enormous success of his first number one hit, “Diana” made him a star at the age of 15. Soon after he found himself traveling by bus with the ‘Cavalcade of Stars’ which featured the top names of the day. He honed his craft surrounded by the likes of Jerry Lee Lewis, Buddy Holly, Frankie Lymon, and Chuck Berry. And he is the youngest entertainer to ever perform at the Copacabana in New York, as well as the Sahara and Sands Hotels in Las Vegas. The best-known titles of his early career included hits like “Put Your Head On My Shoulder,” “You Are My Destiny, Lonely Boy, and Puppy Love, (which also was recorded by Donny Osmond). By age 18, he had five Top 5 hits to his credit. After a few hit songs, he gained confidence in his talent as a writer and wisely knew that being a songwriter meant the power was in the pen. As a result, he went on to write for Connie Francis, Leslie Gore, and Buddy Holly (including the last song Holly ever recorded, “It Doesn’t Matter Anymore”). Other hit songs include the Academy Award-nominated theme for the 1962 film in which he starred, ‘The Longest Day.’ And he notably penned the longest-running theme in television history for The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson (“Johnny’s Theme”). In the early ’60s, he became a junior associate of Sinatra and the Rat Pack. Even with the British invasion, he still had chart records. He moved to Italy and outsold the Italians, selling an astonishing 4 million records there. In the late ’60s, he wrote “My Way” for Frank Sinatra and by the ’70s, he had another string of hits like “(You’re) Having My Baby”, “Don’t Like To Sleep Alone”, and “Times Of Your Life” which confirmed his status as an icon of popular music. Additionally, he’s written with Michael Jackson (“This Is It” and “Love Never Felt So Good”) and Drake (“Don’t Matter To Me”). He’s been named the 21st most successful artist in Billboard’s history, putting him alongside music greats Elvis Presley and the Beatles. And he is the only artist in history to have a song in the Billboard Top 100 over 7 consecutive decades. And The Writer Is…Paul Anka!

We flew out of Humberside on a TUI package with Marella Cruises. We opted for an Outside plus Cabin Deck 5 Cabin number 5088. The Cabin was spacious and clean and in a fantastic location and a nice picture window!
The ship itself yes its dated but its personality overrides what you think, Everyone from staff and customers are so friendly and best of all its not too formal! This ship is very relaxed and laid back!
We opted for the Drinks package as we do like a drink on Holiday but a little birdy tells me from May 2019 the drinks package is included, but there is a Deluxe Drinks package you can upgrade to but we felt that the standard was more than adequate.
The food was great plenty of choice and different themes too. We ate the majority of the time in the Buffet restaurant called The Lido Restaurant, We did eat once at The Orion Restaurant, however we like to dine alone so if you want to be sat without a wait you either arrive early or agree to share a table (Poor ladies who sat with us must of thought 'Dear Lord'. We also ate one at The Mistral's Restaurant, here you will need to make a reservation and there is a supplement to pay but my gosh the food was incredible! Please opt for the Cheesecake for your desert you won't be disappointed!
The Entertainment was better than I expected it was like Broadway at sea! The Theatre called The Broadway Lounge had a fantastic Atmosphere and here you get a waiter service so there is no need to leave your seat they will bring your Drink to you 'Strawberry Daquiri Please!'
The shows were shown twice a night and my absolute Favourite was Moulin Rouge! although the new show New York came close too!
The Medusa Lounge & Bar had Entertainment throughout the day and included Bingo, Quiz and live Artists and bands. It was all great!
We went at the end of the season for the Med Cruise so was not the best weather but you don't go for the weather on an adventure do you?!?! Well I didnt ge to use the pool Boo Hoo!!

10 Eating Habits of the Longest Living People from Around the World
So what's the secret to staying healthy as you get older from a dietitian’s point of view? For over a decade, a team of experts has been studying hot spots of longevity around the world—regions where many people live to 100 and beyond. These regions are the Greek island of Ikaria; the highlands of Sardinia; the Nicoya Peninsula in Costa Rica; Okinawa, Japan; and Loma Linda, Calif., home of the highest concentration of Seventh-day Adventists in the U.S. People in all these places share similar rituals and practices surrounding food and believe it or not, they don’t count calories, take vitamins or weigh protein grams! After analyzing more than 150 dietary studies conducted in these regions over the past century, a list of the habits many of these people have in common was developed. Keep in mind, this doesn’t mean that these habits really are the secret to long life. Rather, these were the habits that stood out and that the groups had in common. Learn more at:
