Syrian Immigrants, Now Turkish Citizens, Ready Vote in Elections
More than 3.5 million Syrian refugees migrated to Turkey since the Syrian crisis began in 2011. In January, Turkish Minister of Interior Suleyman Soylu said that nearly 80,000 of those refugees have become naturalized citizens of Turkey. Roughly 53,000 of which are able to participate in Turkey's elections Sunday. VOA's Tan Cetin spoke to two Syrian-born Turkish citizens to find out what factors play a role in their voting decision and filed this report narrated by Bezhan Hamdard.

Taksim Square was a large space until the 18th century; it was a large cottage with no path in it. In this wide area, a maxem was built in 1731 to meet the water need of the growing population. Taksim, the name of this structure took. The maxim is ignored today, even in the square. Most Istanbulites are not even aware of it. As a matter of fact, the fate of Taksim is not this structure, III. During the reign of Selim, the artillery barracks, which was built for the artillery class of Kapıkulu soldiers, was determined. The barracks was in the area of today's Gezi Park. At the part where Atatürk Cultural Center was located, there was a three-storey building with a façade and a barn. The Topçu Barracks was emptied in the 1920s and 30s and its courtyard was used as a football field. During these years, Taksim Square was designed for the parades and ceremonies to be held on national holidays. Constructed by Italian sculptor Pietro Canonica, the Taksim Republic Monument was placed on the square on 8 August 1928. But the major change occurred during the zoning moves of Istanbul governor and mayor Lütfi Kırdar. The Topçu Barracks was destroyed in 1940 and destroyed. Aya Yorgi Monastery,
The Aya Yorgi Monastery, located at one of the highest points of Büyükada, was built in the name of Saint George. According to the records of the Patriarchate, the construction of this monastery dates back to 1751. The small church, chapel and prayer place built on this date is known as the old church and is a small building with two floors covered with tiles. The church, which was made of cut stone behind the bell tower on the hill, was the new Aya Yorgi Church and it was built in 1905 and opened in 1909.
According to the information written at the gate; the church was not the church where the icons first hid, but was replaced by two new churches built by an innovative priest and restored over time; 3 churches in total. The icon and other items mentioned today are located in Aya Yorgi Church.
Aya Yorgi Church in Büyükada is one of the 2 pilgrimage points of Christians in Turkey. For this reason, on 23rd April and 24th September every year the people of Christian religion flock to Büyükada.

Princess bay

History of the Old Greek Orphanage
The building was built in 1898 by a French company as a Prinkipo Palas hotel in Büyükada using wooden products, and some of them were desired to be operated as a casino. However, the hotel, which is being operated under the name of Prinkipo Palace, has not been able to pass an act that it can not get permission from its managers. For this reason, the building changed hands and was sold to the Greek eleni Zarifi Hanım. However, it was decided by the Sultan Abdülmecit to give the building with the patronage of the Patriarchate of the Greek Patriarch in order to serve the unaccompanied Greek children living in the Greek Greek hospital. Training has begun for the orphaned children. For this reason, the building was used as the Ruhban School for a long time.It is known as the 2nd largest wooden building in the world
During the First World War, however, children in the orphanage were transported to Heybeliada and the Kuleli Military School was installed. It is then used as a shelter for Greek immigrants in a short period of time. Building was last closed in 1960. The building, which is still empty nowadays, can still be visited with beautiful wood.
The architect of the building was Alexandre Vallaury.
The inside of the orphanage, which is at the highest peak of Büyükada, is almost ruined from years of carelessness. The omnipotent handrails on the hand-stitched wooden staircases, the piano abandoned on its own in a corner of the hall, the recordings of students from those years on the broken and rotting floor of the director's room, the rumors written names and dates on the courses where the students learned the lessons, dreams of hot days as an orphanage.
Dlburnu National Park
Dilburnu, also known as the Natural Park in Büyükada, is famous for its picnic area as well as the small canyon which can be taken to the sea. Dilburnu, which has become a frequent tourist destination on the island, is one of the rare places where barbecue is not prohibited.
This special picnic area to the west of Büyükada is about 500 meters long and 100 meters wide. Değirmen Cove is in the north and Yörük Ali Cove is in the south. The entire area is covered with pine forests. It has a children's park, restaurant, café, picnic tables and a children's playground.

Last semester I had the privilege of traveling to Turkey with my Medieval Christianity class. Istanbul was amazing, a city so rich and diverse in culture, religion, and history.
I like to describe Istanbul as Europe, meets Asia, meets the Middle East- AND IT’S CLEAN!!!

The Princes’ Islands are a chain of nine rather small islands in the Sea of Marmara. They are a popular destination for tourists and Istanbulites alike to escape the hectic city life for a day. Of those nine islands, only four of them are open to the public: Büyükada, the biggest and most popular, Burgazada, Heybeliada and Kınalıada.

The main feature of Princes’ Islands is the sound of … silence. All motorized vehicles are banned, making the islands an oasis of peace and quiet. The only sounds you’ll hear are bicycle bells and the typical sounds of horse hoofs. Horse-drawn carriages and bicycles are the main transportation means on the islands.

But that’s not the only feature that makes the Princes’ Islands unique. You’ll find yourself walking or riding through narrow streets flanked by either untouched pine-forests or fine, wooden Victorian cottages.
