    The Baneheia murders was a notorious case of double rape-and murder that occurred in Norway on May 19, 2000. The victims were 10-year-old Lena Sløgedal Paulsen and 8-year-old Stine Sofie Sørstrønen who were found raped and killed at Baneheia in Kristiansand. Locals Viggo Kristiansen and Jan Helge Andersen were arrested and were convicted of the murders in 2002. The murders sent shock-waves through the Norwegian public who reacted with shock and disbelief.     Finse is a mountain village area on the shore of the lake Finsevatnet in Ulvik municipality in Hordaland county, Norway. The village is centered on Finse Station, a railway station on the Bergen Line. The village sits at an elevation of 1,222 metres above sea level, making it the highest station on the entire Norwegian railway system. The village lies in the eastern part of Ulvik municipality, and it is not easily accessible from the rest of the municipality. There is no road access, only a railway stop. The long Finse Tunnel lies just west of the village area, replacing a difficult section of rail that frequently was blocked by snow and difficult to clear. According to the BBC, the village was used for expedition training by Amundsen Scott and Shackleton.

At about 700 square kilometres , Jæren is the largest flat lowland area in Norway, stretching from the municipality of Randaberg in the north to Hå in the south. It includes the whole Stavanger Peninsula and the mainland area at its base. The coast is flat compared to the rest of the very mountainous Norwegian coast, and it has sandy beaches along most of the coastline. The largest urban area in Jæren is the adjoining cities of Stavanger/Sandnes .

    Rallarvegen is a construction/access road in central Norway that is now popular as a recreation trail for bicyclists. It was built from 1902 to 1904 in connection with the construction of the Bergen Line. The road is maintained by the Norwegian National Rail Administration as an access road for the railroad. The road runs from Haugastøl Station in the municipality of Hol in Buskerud county to Finse Station in Ulvik municipality in Hordaland county. It continues across the mountains to Myrdal Station in Aurland municipality in Sogn og Fjordane county, and then there is a fork in the road. One path goes north through the Flåmsdalen valley to the village of Flåm on the shore of the Sognefjorden and the other path heads west through the Raundalen valley to Vossevangen.
