Ballymena is a large town in County Antrim, and the eighth largest in Northern Ireland. Ballymena is part of Mid and East Antrim Borough Council. Ballymena is built on land given to the Adair family by King Charles I in 1626, on the basis that the town hold two annual fairs and a free Saturday market in perpetuity. As of 2016, the Saturday market still runs.
Ballymena is the hometown of notable actor Liam Neeson, who was awarded Freedom of the Borough in 2013. It is a popular shopping hub within Northern Ireland and is home to Ballymena United F.C. Ballymena incorporates an area of 632 square kilometres (244 square miles) and is home to large villages such as Galgorm, Ahoghill and Broughshane.
The town of Ballymena used to host Ireland's largest one-day agricultural show at the Ballymena Showgrounds. The town centre has many historic buildings. The Town Hall was built in 1924 on the site of the old Market House, and was refurbished in 2007 at a cost of roughly £20 million.
Ballymena is a market town, but industry developed in the town. The 1980s were a time of job losses in Ballymena as industry suffered. Michelin has a large presence in the Borough (in Broughshane), and JTI Gallaher has a large presence in Galgorm.

Game of Thrones movie series has really brought different locations in Northern Ireland under the spotlight, making them much more famous and getting tourists to visit them more often. Not only did those places like the Dark Hedges ( that got famous, but there are even some hotels and pubs which gained more visitors because they happened to be where the ten doors are located.
The main intention of this trip was to find some of the ten doors which appeared in the movie and to do so, we headed to Cushendun, Ballintoy, and Torr Head where we also did other things like climbing the hill with the kids. All these different doors which you might have came across and witnessed in the movie are scattered across Northern Ireland - where the movie is filmed in general and even the Direwolves that appeared in the movie are Irish (
Our trip started at the Clendun Hotel in Cushendun where we started walking in search for any of the doors we came to witness. The first door we succeeded at reaching in Cushendun is located in Mary McBride's Pub; the thing is that, there are lots of those people - like us - who go to these places in search for the doors and to take a couple of pictures then leave, which we believe might still help the pub because there are those who might also decide to sit for some time and have something to drink.
After enjoying this door we have found and after taking all the pictures that we want of it, we decided to complete the journey and go searching for more of these doors. The next stop in this trip was the Torr Head; in the Torr Head we climbed that hill and we managed to get on top - that we even spotted out the car as a small dot standing down - where we managed to see this kind of castle which is destroyed that it is not even safe to get inside the rooms and check what they have, but the view from up there was magnificent with being on the sea and enjoying the good weather from there.
Leaving the Torr Head behind after checking it and getting back down to the car, we went on to complete the journey of finding and exploring the different doors, so we reached Ballintoy where the second door in this trip was found at the Fullerton Inn - the interesting thing is that those places which are homes to these doors tend to place a sign outside in order to let people know that what they are searching for is actually found inside.
While we were going back home, we passed by the Dark Hedges and drove through those trees which are a little bit scary at night ( but which was considered related to the trip due to being a place where some scenes from Game of Thrones were filmed as well.
In this trip, we have crossed two different doors off our list, but since we have made this as some kind of challenge which we want to achieve, there are other doors which we managed to visit before. From those other doors which we have seen, there is the one which is found in the Dark Horse Bar in Belfast Commercial Court ( there is also the door which is located in Percy French restaurant in Newcastle, county Down ( another door we came across was situated in Blakes of the Hollow which is a traditional Irish Victorian pub located in Enniskillen, county Fermanagh ( we also visited the Ballygally Castle Hotel where another door is located ( and we ended these with those two which we managed to reach and discover in this trip.
These places were related to the exploration of the doors in the Game of Thrones movie series, but we have also managed to visit those locations which appeared in the scenes of the movie. We have already mentioned our trip to the Dark Hedges which we truly fell in love with but which we still believe that they are considered a little bit scary at night - especially after knowing more about the legend of those ghosts which come to visit the place :-).
There are other places which we have visited and which are also related to the Game of Thrones movie, such as Cushendun Caves ( Portstewart Strand ( Lough Neagh which was referred to as smoking sea in GOT ( Toome Canal ( Binevenagh Mountain ( Leitrim Lodge ( Larrybane ( and many other destinations which we have been to and which we definitely recommend people and tourists to pay them a visit.

Carrickfergus is County Antrim's oldest town and one of the oldest towns in Ireland as a whole. The town is the subject of the classic Irish folk song Carrickfergus, a 19th-century translation of an Irish-language song (Do Bhí Bean Uasal) from Munster, which begins with the words, I wish I was in Carrickfergus. The British peerage title of Baron Carrickfergus, which had become extinct in 1883, was bestowed upon Prince William on his wedding day in 2011.
Carrickfergus railway station opened on 1 October 1862. In addition, the northwest of the town is served by Clipperstown railway station, and the east by Downshire railway station. All three stations have regular commuter services to Belfast and Larne. Three historic stations in Carrickfergus, Barn, Eden and Mount, closed in the 1970s.

Bran's & Stark; The Real Direwolves from Game of Thrones
Who does not love Game of Thrones movie series and its Dire wolves! While at the Winterfell Festival at Castle Ward in Northern Ireland, we came across the original or real Dire wolves from the GOT TV show. Dire wolf means fearsome dog - and they look like it!
The type of breed for these dire wolves are considered very rare and they are also considered the closest thing to wolves which people could own without having a license for that - which was the main reason why this man decided to go for those two dire wolves who are now pretty much famous.
Yes, they are rare, but people are not getting the idea of how rare they are; the parents of these dire wolves happen to be from England, which make those two the first little breed to be ever born in Ireland - and that could tell the story of their rarity.
When it comes to TV shows and movies, the type which is usually asked for are these dire wolves and this mainly goes back for how intelligent they tend to be - which is exactly the reason how these two got famous by taking their roles and parts in Game of Thrones movie series.
The story started when this man got the dire wolves when they were still seven weeks old and then got a telephone call from the breeder three weeks later when they were ten weeks old, saying that some TV show wants to use his dogs in it - after three weeks from being taken, they came back with their high and full strength. Game of Thrones is all about swords and stuff like that and that helped in giving these dogs for the movie and also the reason why they gained all this strength when they were back - a good plan played well.
These two dogs are more famously known for Summer Bran's Direwolf (the one with the long hair) and Grey Wind Robb Stark Direworf (the one with the short hair) - and they got attached to these names because that is the names they were given in Game of Thrones movie series and they got pretty much famous for that that they even got their personal Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter accounts so that their fans could keep up with their updates, that's of course in addition to all the other events which they took part in all over Europe.
In the movie, Grey Wind was one of the six different dire wolf pups which were found by the children of House Stark and was then raised by Robb Stark. Grey Wind appeared in three seasons - one, two, and three - and unfortunately he was killed at the Red Wedding.
Summer Direwolf was also one of those six different dire wolf pups which were found by the children of House Stark but this time it was raised by Bran Stark. Summer direwolf appeared in four different seasons - one, two, six, and seven - and he was killed in defense of Bran when wights and white walker attacked the cave of the Three-Eyed Raven.
These creatures are not only intelligent to be taken and used in such movies and TV shows, but they are also loyal. Whenever you spot a direwolf - which will probably never happen except if you are at a show or in a special event - make sure to look out for its pack and take care because they usually attack on sight.
The Dire Wolf is the ancestor of the modern wolf and is adapted to the dangerous environment of the ARK. The appearance of this animal might differ from one to another because its color ranges anywhere from white to black with mixed grays and black and it always appears muscular and large.
Game of Thrones have been different by all means - a good movie series out there - but what makes us proud is that a lot of its scenes and locations where taken in Ireland and Northern Ireland, and most importantly, even the dire wolves which were used as role players in some of the seasons were also taken from Ireland.
