Southeastern Germany is home to the Bavarian town of Traunstein, on the banks of the Traun River.
Traunstein became part of Bavaria in 1275, and was officially listed as a town by the beginning of the 14th century.
Over the centuries, Traunstein has been the victim of intense town-wide fires and bombings during war time.
However, the town has persevered and rebuilt itself to its previous glory each time.
A subcamp of the infamous Dachau concentration camp was located in the town during World War II.
The town is a stronghold of staunch Catholic faith, having been the location where Pope Benedict the 16th received his seminary education.

My first stop in Europe well on an assignment for Viking River Cruises was the town of Passau, Germany which is in the heart of Bavaria. The town is a travel photographer's dream. It is just a fantastic place to shoot images. Passau has plenty of fantastic views to keep you occupied. It also has beautiful architecture, interesting streets, good food, and markets. Of course, it's also Christmas season in Europe, so I had the chance to visit the Bavarian Christmas market, and sample some of the local grub. All in all, Passau, Germany was absolutely brilliant. It's one of those places that just defines this part of Europe. In many ways, it's the typical Bavarian town, and in other ways it's just so unique. It's one of those European towns that I'd love to spend a week or two just exploring the streets and creating images. But, alas, my time in Passau had to be fairly short as I only had a day and a half before my ship set sail for my next destination.
Von Salzburg nach München
Unsere letzten beiden Etappen der Sommertour 2017 führen uns von Salzburg nach München über das kleine beschauliche Örtchen Amerang. Fast die ganze Strecke bis Amerang geht es auf der Via Julia, die sich ein Teilstück - Teisendorf bis Traunstein- mit dem Bodensee-Königssee-Radweg teilt. Der letzte Tag von Amerang bis München führt auch landschaftlich sehr schön durch das Alpenvorland. Viel Spass beim Zuschauen und Hören !
