A Tourist's Guide to Kish Island, Iran
Kish Island is one of the only places in Iran where no visa in needed. So I jumped aboard a Kish Air flight from Dubai and did the 30-minute hop to Iran.
From there, I saw as much as I could in eight hours before I had to be back at the airport to catch my flight back again.

Best Hotel in Kish Island
Great video! Hotel Parmis is best 5 star hotel in Kish Island. Kish is south of Iran so it gets hot in summer but the rest of Iran is just lovely and cold and gets heaps of snow every year. Kish is not a place to live but a place to travel to. A place for swimming, fishing, jet skiing, shopping and much much more. A great place for tourists. And the rest of Iran is great for skiing. I love Iran.

The tunnels on Kish Island were used to transport water around the island . The city is known as the Kariz-e-Kish or Kish Qanat by locals. Museum, art galleries and handicraft workshops attract thousands a year. This underground city is so secret it doesn't even have a name. Located on Kish Island, in the Persian gulf, a stone doorway opens up into a maze of walled passages and clear openings that is now partly open for tourists. Judging by the sheer numbers who visit - thousands a year - it's a mesmerising experience. It is actually an ancient underground aqueduct built about 1,000 years ago for the distribution of goods and water to different parts of the island. The tunnels, which have been reinforced over time for safety, snake through the island for over five miles. The city, although without an official name, is known as the Kariz-e-Kish or Kish Qanat by locals. Those who inhabited the island tens of centuries ago built the aqueducts to channel fresh water that they'd discovered to their homes and farms. It was moved around with the help of a series of wells - or channels - known as qanats. The ancient canals were expanded, and an underground city, with museum, art galleries, handicraft workshops, traditional and modern tea/coffee shops sprung up in modern times for tourists to enjoy. Due to its free trade zone status Kish Island is touted as a consumer's paradise, with numerous malls, shopping centres, tourist attractions, and resort hotels. It has an estimated population of 26,000 residents and about one million people visit the island annually. Kish Island was ranked among the world's 10 most beautiful islands by The New York Times in 2010. And it's the fourth most-visited vacation destination in Southwest Asia after Dubai, United Arab Emirates and Sharm el-Sheikh. Another tourist attraction on Kish Island is the Greek wreck of a 1943 cargo steamship, the Koula F, on a beach on Kish's south-west coast.

Road 59, also known as the Chalous Road or Kandovan Road, is an important road for people of Tehran, a large number of whom drive to popular tourist attractions in the north of Iran on weekends and for holidays. This road is one of the busiest roads in Iran. There is a tunnel in this road that name Kandovan. Kandovan tunnel built in four years from 1935 until 1939 without technology! that's amazing.

Kish (Persian: کیش (Kīsh) About this sound listen (help·info)) is a 91.5-square-kilometre (35.3 sq mi) resort island in the Persian Gulf off the southern coast of Iran. It is part of the Bandar Lengeh County in Hormozgān Province of Iran. Owing to its free trade zone status it is touted as a consumer's paradise, with numerous malls, shopping centers, tourist attractions, and resort hotels. It has an estimated population of 26,000 residents and about 1 million people visit the island annually.
Kish Island is the third most visited vacation destination in Southwest Asia after Dubai and Sharm el-Sheikh. [clarification needed] Foreign nationals wishing to enter Kish Free Zone from legal ports are not required to obtain visas prior to travel. Valid travel permits are stamped for 14 days by the airport and Kish port police officials.
Kish Island has been mentioned in history variously as Kamtina, Arakia (Ancient Greek: Αρακία), Arakata, and Ghiss.
Kish Island's strategic position served as a way-station and link for the ancient Assyrian and Elamite civilizations when their primitive sailboats navigated from Susa through the Karun River into the Persian Gulf along the southern coastline passing Kish, Qeshm and Hormoz islands. When these civilizations vanished, Kish Island's advantageous position was lost and for a period it was subjected to turmoil and the tyranny of local potentates and other vendors. With the establishment of the Achaemenid dynasty, the Persian Gulf was profoundly affected. Kish was, in particular, economically and politically linked with the civilization of the Medes, Persians when they were at the height of their power.
In the shadow of the empire, the islands in the Gulf became prosperous, navigation in the Persian Gulf was expanded and better vessels were used to carry passengers and goods. Navigational signs, including lighthouses, were set up to facilitate navigation in the Persian Gulf.
In 325 BC, Alexander the Great commissioned Nearchus to set off on an expeditionary voyage to the Sea of Oman and the Persian Gulf. Nearchus's writings on Arakata contain the first-known mention of Kish Island in antiquity.[1] When Marco Polo visited the Imperial court in China, he commented on the Emperor's wife's pearls, he was told that they were from Kish.
In the 1970s Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, the last Shah of Iran, turned the island into a luxury resort for the international elite and a tourism hotspot, complete with a Grand Casino (renamed as the Shayan International Hotel after the Iranian Revolution). Kish Airport was designed to handle the Concorde. After the Islamic Revolution, Kish Island became a duty-free shopping center.
