1. Elafonisi
Elafonisi beach has been voted several times as one of the most majestic beaches not only in Europe but also in the world. The area features exotic beauty: dunes, cedar trees, white lilies, black rocks, rare species of animals and birds that live there, blue waters and bright white sand, but in many places it is pinkish.
2. Falassarna
Falasarna is a popular destination and the beach is among the most renowned in Europe. The sand is light-coloured and turns the crystal clear water into many spectacular shades of blue, while the beach is so vast that, though it is usually crowded, it always looks almost empty.
3. Balos
Balos is surely the mostly photographed beach in Crete, a very favorite subject of all tourist guides for Greece. It is no coincidence that Prince Charles and Princess Diana visited Balos with their private yacht many years ago.
4. Seitan Limania
The wider area is named Seitan Limania, after the wild landscape, the steep cliffs and the strong sea streams which are considered dangerous. Here are situated three parallel narrow coves, well protected from the waves.
5. Georgioupolis
Georgioupolis beach stretches 2km to the east, starting from the river Almiros and ending in Kavros beach, which is a natural extension of the first beach. Georgioupolis beach is sandy with dunes in places and shallow waters.
6. Frangokastello
Frangokastello is one of the most famous beaches of Crete, famous for the local Venetian castle on the beautiful beach and the legendary ghosts of Drosoulites.

Agios Nikolaos Travel, Crete, Greece 4K, Agios Nikolaos Beaches, Agios Nikolaos Tourism & Vacations
Lasithi’s capital, Agios Nikolaos has an enviable location on hilly terrain overlooking the shores of the sensuously curving Mirabello Bay. It may feel less Cretan than other towns, partly because of its resort-style flair, tree-lined avenues and largely modern architecture. However, there’s also a strong local character to Agios Nikolaos that imbues it with charismatic, low-key flair.
A narrow channel separates the attractive harbour from the circular Voulismeni Lake, whose pedestrianised shore is lined with tourist cafes and restaurants. At night a lively ambience descends on the harbour as lounge-bars fill with stylish young Greeks and holidaymakers from the nearby resorts.
See
===
There are boat trips up the coast to see Barbarossa's cave and the old leper colony (formerly a Venetian fortress) of Spinalonga, which are fascinating and amazing value (do not spend more than 10 euros, there is no need) and usually include an ocean swim.
Do
====
Go to Almyros beach, a long sandy beach with a cold water stream entering the sea at the southern end. Perfect for a cooling paddle if the heat gets too much. About a 20 minute walk from the town center but worth every step! Alternatively, a taxi from the town center will only cost you about €8.
If it is windy, consider a pebble beach rather than a sand beach, of which there is no shortage.
Buy
=====
Locally produced fruit and vegetables at the market on Wednesday morning. The tomatoes are superb.
Thyme honey. The bees here take the pollen from hyme and the subtle flavur is transferred to the honey.
Eat
====
There are a good selection of restaurants and tavernas in the town, ranging from the small and friendly Grigoris to the superb Mediterraneo on the harbour.
Meze restaurants worth visiting are Barko which provides a modern slant on traditional dishes and Chyssofillis on Kitroplatia. Just around the corner is 9 Muses, a modern restaurant /cafe bar which is popular with local residents. The recently opened Piato near Ammoudi beach is an excellent contemporary meze restaurant. Near the taxi rank by tourist information is Embassy.
For more northern European tastes, Obelix is a Dutch operated restaurant near Ammoudi beach which serves large portions with a daily special for variety.

Crete, Greek Islands - Best Travel Destination
Crete is a magical quilt of splendid beaches, ancient treasures and landscapes encompassing vibrant cities and dreamy villages, where locals will share with you their traditions, wonderful cuisine and generous spirit. Crete is the largest and most populous of the Greek islands, and the fifth-largest island in the Mediterranean Sea, after Sicily, Sardinia, Cyprus, and Corsica. Crete and a number of surrounding islands and islets constitute the region of Crete, one of the 13 top-level administrative units of Greece. The capital and the largest city is Heraklion. As of 2011, the region had a population of 623,065. Crete forms a significant part of the economy and cultural heritage of Greece, while retaining its own local cultural traits (such as its own poetry and music). It was once the center of the Minoan civilization, which is currently regarded as the earliest recorded civilization in Europe.
Georgioupolis & Almyrida summer resorts: top attractions, Crete island | Exotic Greece
Georgioupolis is a small seaside town 38 km southeast of Chania, in West Crete.
Georgioupolis is set in a green countryside with a large beach stretching about 1.5 km eastwards. The area around Georgioupolis is Apokoronas, with its picturesque villages and verdant landscape.
The River Almyros meets the sea at Georgioupolis. Just before the town, it forms a little lake that is home to many birds and animals. The lake is visible from the National Road.
On entering the town you see many eucalyptus trees, both along the road and in the main square, and a row of cypress trees forming a pretty picture.
Georgioupolis is great for everyone, as it has good tourist amenities and lots of shops to suit every visitor.
Holidays in Georgioupolis are ideal for groups of friends, couples and families, and generally anyone in search of quiet holidays without missing out on nightly entertainment in bars and restaurants
Almyrida is in the Apokoronas area, at the entrance to Souda Bay, about 2 km after Κalyves and 22 km from Chania.
Almyrida is a seaside resort extending about 2 kilometres along the coast. The resort itself is quiet, small with many hotels and apartments for rent.
Almyrida has been developed in recent years, due to strong Northern European interest in buying land and houses there.
Georgioupoli is a popular seaside resort located 38km east of Chania and 21km west of Rethymnon. It is a small coastal town, situated in a lush valley filled with rivers and springs. Locals, apart from tourism, deal with beekeeping and agriculture. The river Almiros crosses the town. Before the town, there is the Almiros marsh, where very important animal species are sheltered. One landmark of the village is the road and the square with the numerous eucalyptus and cypress trees. The square is full of restaurants, cafes and tourist shops. At the exit of Almyros, you will meet the picturesque harbor of the area. But the town's highlight is the picturesque chapel of St Nicholas, that is built on the end of the small pier. The church from far looks like floating on the sea surface.
The area of Georgioupolis is inhabited at least since the Minoan times. A Minoan tomb has been found on the hill Kastelos. Georgioupolis is located in the site of ancient Amfimalla, which was the port city of Lappa (currently Argiroupoli). Indeed, several devotional findings have been excavated.
During the Byzantine period, St. John Xenos founded the Monastery of St. George in Dramia. During the Venetian Era, this fertile region was very important for the invaders, who built a fort. It was later destroyed by the Turks, who built a new one by using the materials of the old one. Unfortunately, the fort is now damaged.
