Anantnag is located at a distance of 53 kilometres from the state's capital Srinagar. It is the third largest city in Jammu and Kashmir after Srinagar and Jammu with an urban agglomerate population of more than 200,000 and municipal limit population over 100,000.

  • 3. Martand Sun Temple Kashmir
    The Martand Sun Temple is a Kashmiri Hindu temple dedicated to Surya and built during the 8th century CE. Martand is another Sanskrit name for the Hindu Sun-god. Now in ruins, the temple is located five miles from Anantnag in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. It was destroyed by Sultan Sikandar Butshikan.

    Awanti Swami Temple was a Hindu temple located in Awantipora in the Indian state of Jammu & Kashmir. There were two temples, one each for Shiva and Vishnu. The temples were built by king Avanti Varman in 9th century A.D. on the banks of river Jhelum. The temples were destroyed by earthquakes and the site is maintained by Archeological Survey of India.
