Betws-y-Coed is a village and community in the Conwy valley in Conwy County Borough, Wales. The name Betws or Bettws is generally thought to be derived from the Anglo-Saxon Old English bed-hus—i.e. a bead-house: a house of prayer, or oratory. The earliest record of the name is Betus, in 1254.
Betws-y-Coed is one of the honeypot locations in Snowdonia. It lies in the Snowdonia National Park, in a valley near the point where the River Conwy is joined by the River Llugwy and the River Lledr, and was founded around a monastery in the late sixth century. The village grew very slowly with the development of the local lead mining industry. In 1815, the Waterloo Bridge, built by Thomas Telford to carry the London to Holyhead road (now the A5) across the River Conwy and through the village, brought considerable transport-related development. The village became a major coaching centre between Corwen (to the east) and Capel Curig (to the west) on the Irish Mail route from London to Holyhead, which led to the improvement of the roads south to Blaenau Ffestiniog and north to Llanrwst and Conwy. It is a primary destination for the purpose of road signs.
Construction of Betws-y-Coed railway station in 1868 heralded the arrival of the railway line from Llandudno Junction railway station, and resulted in the village's population increasing by around 500.
The village has a large village green which is the playing field for the local football team. The green is bounded on its western side by the A5 trunk road, with 19th century buildings, including shops, hotels, and the Church of St Mary. This church was built on the site of a former cockpit and fairground, and although it is of early English appearance, it was completed as recently as 1873, the internal roof timbers testifying to this relatively young age. The interior also features various types of stone: local bluestone, sandstone (and floor tiles) from Ancaster, and black serpentine from Cornwall. The square bell tower was added in 1907, and the integral church hall was added in the 1970s, the commemorative stone being laid by the Earl of Ancaster in 1976.
On the southern side of the green is Betws-y-Coed railway station with cafes and tourist shops and a car park. In the former railway goods yard, reached from the station, is the Conwy Valley Railway Museum with its extensive miniature railway.
Other attractions in the village include the Miners' Bridge and the 14th century church of St. Michael, which is the origin of the name Betws (meaning prayer-house). There are scenic walks beside the River Llugwy, which flows through the village, and the River Conwy provides further attractions, including the Fairy Glen, the Conwy Fish pass and waterfalls including the Conwy Falls. The Pont-y-Pair Falls are in the centre of the village (also the site of a 53-hole rock cannon), and a mile upstream are the famous Swallow Falls.
The Llyn Elsi reservoir nearby is popular with walkers and anglers, and also provides water for the village. A wide range of footpaths provide access to the lake, both from Betws y Coed itself and the outlying village of Pentre Du. There are many other small lakes in the vicinity.
The village is also a centre for outdoor activities and lies within the Gwydyr Forest. The current Betws-y-Coed Golf Club was founded in the 1970s. There was a much earlier club and course located on or near the Recreation Ground. The village is home to at least one well known rock band; Melys were founded there in 1996.
The Betws-y-Coed railway station, a passenger station on the Conwy Valley Line from Llandudno Junction to Blaenau Ffestiniog, is an integral part of the settlement's tourism industry. The train service is operated by Arriva Trains Wales and is marketed as the Conwy Valley Railway

Dundurn Castle - Hamilton, Ontario
I hope you enjoy this little peek at one of my favourite places to visit in southern Ontario. Every time I go, I see or learn something new. This Canadian National Historic Site is not really a castle at all. Dundurn Castle was built by Sir Allan Napier MacNab, and completed in 1835 at a cost of $175,000.00. Seventy-two rooms made up its 18,000-square-footage (1,700 square metres) and 42 of them are now open to the public after being restored to what they would have been in 1855. Sir John A. MacDonald, first Prime Minister of Canada, and England's King George VII were among those entertained there.
Some interesting facts from the tour:
-- Dundurn Castle was the first home in the province to have gas lighting and running water. The water was pumped through the house by a young boy who earned $2.00 per month for his service.
-- The Scullery Maid was a young girl of 9 or 10. She washed the dishes from the entire household's seven meals each day. Her wage -- $1.30 per month.
-- Refined sugar was delivered in a solid, paper-wrapped cone. It was shaved or chipped off when needed. The cost of a cone of sugar - $75.00. The cost of a new home - $100.00.
-- Sir Allan MacNab was often accused of treating his servants too well. :)
The Victorian Kitchen Garden was a project undertaken by the City of Hamilton as part of the restoration. This formal garden is walled in Scottish fashion, and has a series of walkways and beds full of fruit, flowers, herbs and vegetables that would have been grown during Sir Allan NacNab's lifetime at Dundurn. The garden is maintained the old fashioned way by hand, and all natural.

SIX NATIONS INDIAN RESERVE, ONTARIO, CANADA
This video is mostly for those in Canada, USA but especially outside NA who have never been on an Indian Reserve (or Reservation, two words, same meaning).
Apparently, as per Wikipedia as well, this particular Indian Reserve in the largest in entire Canada.
Downtown Six Nations Indian Reserve is the Village of Ohsweken, Ontario:
Indians do not pay any taxes on the Reserve, that includes sales tax, gas tax, property tax also outside their Reserve as well:
Not bad to be an Indian in Ontario, no idea about taxes for Indians in rest of Canada.
Gas prices are obviously very low on the Reserve, about 35c/liter ($1.2/gallon) lower than rest of Ontario, no gas taxes on the Reserve, that's why everybody who lives around the Reserve plus tourists who are aware of this place always stop by for a pretty cheap fill-up.
As you can see, locals have no problem with the word RED INDIAN, I personally spoken with a store owner near the gas station and she said she's very proud as being a Native INDIAN and she does not see the word as offensive in any way. We all know how (overwhelmingly) White Liberal Media AND White Liberals in generals brand you as racist when using this word, NBC/Bob Costas vs. Washington Red Skins the best example possible. Also how many ppl have been inside such Indian Reserve to know that Red Indian word is widely accepted by Native Indians.
YES, No Canadian Flag on the Reserve except for the Park along with American, British and their own flag, also they have their own Police, Fire, EMS Stations, so pretty much they consider themselves like an independent country.
The Reserve is located very close to Caledonia, Ontario, the place of ugly clashes btwn Indians and local white residents, OPP always being on the Indian's side, it's very politically incorrect to be against Indians nowadays.
Friendly advice to everybody going inside the Reserve: DO NOT SHOW ANY CANADIAN FLAG OR PRO-CANADIAN SIGN ON YOU AND/OR ON YOUR CAR. For your own sake of course.
At 06:23 in the video you'll see something extremely rare in Ontario and maybe in rest of Canada as well: a 65 KPH speed-zone sign, first time I've seen such sign in 20+ years of driving on Ontario roads.
So anytime you are around Hamilton, Ontario, feel free to visit the SIX NATIONS INDIAN RESERVE, never forget that anything you buy on the Reserve is TAX-FREE!!!
