Travel to Tolar Grande Argentina
It might be relatively unknown now, but a trip to the Tolar Grande in Northern Argentina will be on everyone's wish list soon! Take an offroad adventure to the far corners of Argentina and feel like you've just landed on another planet.
Into the Puna with Socompa
A four-day adventure into the Puna. Part of the Andean Plateau surrounded by a volcanic chain to the west and a mountain belt to the east, the Puna has an average elevation of more than 10,000 feet, with passes reaching close to 15,000. We tell people there really is nothing there. Really. Nothing. But what we mean by that is, there are no real towns, no cafés around the corner, no real civilization – the expansive area is just too remote, rugged and windblown for much other than miners (these days, seeking lithium) and adventurous travelers seeking the epitome of an off-the-beaten-path trip with spectacular landscape. We are hooked on the Puna ... and you will soon see why! Subscribe to us here:

EXPEDITION BOLIVIA – The Document about the beauty of the highest elevated country in the world.
Once you are going to see it – or better to say once you are going to experience Altiplano-Puna in High Andes Mountains of South America you have seen it all. You don’t need to go anywhere else to see something even more incredible because there is everything in this part of Andes. After seeing all 5 continents of planet Earth (not Antarctica) I believe in order to be totally flabbergasted as I was you have to see Altiplano-Puna in any of these countries – Peru or Argentina but mainly in Chile and Bolivia.
I went to area of Altiplano first time in 2013 – but unfortunately timing let me see only one face of the country – winter one or dry one. In order to see other face of the country in wet/post–summer season I have to go this year again in March and early April. Landscape there is marvellous – so different to everything we are used to that often one wander if this is still reality, or is it really only painting.
I went to Bolivia twice since I wanted to see salty plains of Salar de Uyuni in both seasons and I wanted to see Altiplano lakes, because first time in the middle of winter most of the roads were closed.
This movie is document of Bolivian beauty in both seasons and I am still wander which one is more recommendable. You might be judge because many of the areas in the movie are presented in both seasons – winter tales from 2013 and summer tales from 2018. One need more than 5 days – the time I got each time – to see soul of Bolivian Andes. On the other side one can’t have problems with Altitude Thickness since most of the attractions are far above 4,000 m and many of them even higher than 5,000 m.
Here are some facts about the area.
The Altiplano (Spanish for high plain), or Bolivian Plateau, in west-central South America, is the area where the Andes are the widest. It is the most extensive area of high plateau on Earth outside Tibet. The bulk of the Altiplano lies in Bolivia, but its northern parts lie in Peru, and its southern parts lie in Chile and Argentina.
The Altiplano was the site of several pre-Columbian cultures, including the Chiripa, Tiawanaku and the Inca Empire. Spain conquered the region in the 16th century.
The Altiplano is an area of inland drainage lying in the central Andes, occupying parts of northern Chile and Argentina, western Bolivia and southern Peru. Its height averages about 3,750 meters (12,300 feet), slightly less than that of the Tibetan Plateau. Unlike conditions in Tibet, the Altiplano is dominated by massive active volcanoes of the Central Volcanic Zone reaching often far above 6,000 m. The Atacama Desert, the driest areas on the planet, lies to the southwest of the Altiplano; to the east lies the humid Amazon rainforest.
The Altiplano is noted for hypoxic air caused by very high elevation – that’s why many of pictures from the area look like unearthly paintings.
Major economic activities in the Altiplano include mining, llama and vicuña herding, and services in the cities. There is some international tourism lately.
The term Altiplano is sometimes used to identify the altitude zone and the type of climate that prevails within it: it is colder than that of the tierra fría but not as cold as that of the tierra helada. Scientists classify the latter as The Altiplano–Puna volcanic complex, also known as APVC. It results from the subduction of the Nazca Plate beneath the South American Plate commencing at an elevation of approximately 4,500 meters (or about 15,000 feet). Alternate names used in place of altiplano in this context include puna and páramos
The Andes mountain chain originated from the subduction of the Nazca Plate below the South American Plate and was accompanied by extensive volcanism.

Salar de Uyuni, Bolivia - Tour South America 2018 from the Drone - HD 2K
The Salar de Uyuni is the world's largest salt flat (10,582 square kilometers). It is in the Daniel Campos Province in Potosí, in southwest Bolivia, near the crest of the Andes and is at an elevation of 3,656 meters above sea level.
It is covered by a few meters of salt crust, which has an extraordinary flatness with the average elevation variations within one meter over the entire area of the Salar. The crust serves as a source of salt and covers a pool of brine, which is exceptionally rich in Lithium. It contains 50 to 70% of the world's known Lithium reserves, which is in the process of being extracted.
One of the major tourist attractions of Uyuni is an antique train cemetery located 3 km outside the town. The trains were mostly used by the mining companies. In the 1940s the mining industry collapsed and many trains were abandoned thereby producing the train cemetery.
