Zug, Switzerland
If you're staying in Zürich, Switzerland for a few days you might want to consider a day trip to a nearby town and one of the closest destinations is the historic city of Zug. It has a small historic center with several remarkable buildings and quaint Swiss atmosphere. Zug is half an hour away by train and all the trains leave twice an hour from Zürich, so it's really easy to get there.

It's a direct train -- you don't have to change – and you’ll enjoy some nice scenery along the way. When you arrive in Zug you'll notice that the train station is quite modern. If you think you're coming to visit an old historic town, which is really the plan, you'll be surprised at how beautiful and up-to-date the station is. In fact Zug is a modern city with a historical town, which is what we’re here to see. You don’t want to walk from the train station to the old town, which is just too far, over a mile, so get on the public bus. A short ride take you through the modern part along the lakeshore, and you'll soon be arriving within a few blocks of the old town. Now come along on our video tour of Zug’s Old Town.

Baar, Switzerland
Baar is a Swiss town of around 23,000 people, situated between Lake Zug and Lake Zurich. Come with me and my short film on this fine spring day and I’ll show you round the town. If you’re coming by car, take the Baar motorway exit, but as this is green Switzerland, you will probably arrive by train at Baar’s modern railway station. Let’s have a look round town, with its large church with the impressive tower. Notice how Baar combines traditional older buildings with modern steel-and-glass architecture. That very rectangular all glass building is the hospital, the largest one in the canton of Zug. And the pink one with the square grey tower behind is Baar’s very own brewery – Baar people are rightly proud of their local beer. This town is reckoned by many to be a good place to live, and 25% of the inhabitants have moved here from abroad. I hope you enjoyed our visit? (By the way, if you come back in the summer, they lend bikes free of charge from near the Rathaus (Town Hall) so you can see more of the town.)

Travel Switzerland - Tips on Using Public Transportation in Zurich
Learn how to ride common form of public transport in Zurich. (Zurich, Switzerland)
It is easy to navigate around Zurich. You can use the city's extensive tram and bus network, hop on a lake steamer, ride a taxi or rent a bike. The easiest way to get to almost any location in the city is to ride a tram. Use this map at the tram stop to find out your route. Today, I will be going from Central to Kunstouse. Before buying a ticket at one of the machines, decide what kind of ticket you need and then press the appropriate button. If you plan on riding more than twice, I highly recommend the day pass. After you press the button, the ticket price will be displayed on the screen. When paying, make sure to have plenty of coins, as most of the machines do not accept bills. This is where the ticket comes out. Now you are ready to get on the tram.
This plate shows you what trams stop here. You can check out the timings on this departure table. Our tram to Kunstouse leaves in three minutes. Looks like that is our tram. You can see the route by looking at the color and number. The tram halts at every stop. Make sure to press the button or the door would not open. The trams can take you practically everywhere in Zurich. If you need to take a taxi, make sure to order one on the phone or get one on a taxi rank. I am Nadia Migdal, showing you Zurich.
