Drymen , Scotland : A Great Place To Visit and To Stay
So much to do around the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond. Drymen is a few minutes drive to the Queen of Scottish Lochs. Hill walking , climbing , the West Highland Way , Ben Lomond , golfing , fishing , sailing , boating , tourism. So much more besides. And in Drymen there are a number of places at which to stay and dine , including Hotels & Bed and Breakfasts.

Hello again viewers! This episode explores the East London district of 'Poplar'. We comb through the full monty of the surroundings touching on the history and make-up of how you see it today.

The manor of Popeler takes its name from its native trees. Due to its locality, it quickly became the home of London's primary docks, including the large East and West India sites.
The fish market opens 4-8.30am Tuesday to Saturday to display the largest selection of fish and seafood in the country forcing you to make the choice between a bargain or a lay-in.
Since 1400, Billingsgate Market sold all-sorts until parliament gave them the right to concentrate solely on fish, except eels which were reserved for sale from the fishermen who fed Londoners during the Great Fire in 1666. Eventually the eel ban was lifted.
Billingsgate moved away from the City. Their new rent to Tower Hamlets council is one fish a year. As normal, the Lord Mayor of the City recently handed over a dead salmon to the council's vice chairman as annual rent. George Orwell worked in there as did the Kray Twins. Michael Caine just about swerved it for a career in Hollywood.
This Traffic Light Tree in the centre of the roundabout is an art piece by artist Pierre Vivant. You can imagine the confusion it causes for those passing through for the first time.
Around 50AD, the Romans began to establish a settlement called Londinium as a Port built around the River Thames. Over time, Saxons, Normans and Tudors developed it to serve sea-related industries like warehousing, ship building and rope making. The India docks of Poplar held the most important role in this primary life of London as a port.
The area of Blackwall takes its name from a long riverside wall curving the Thames perimeter to help mitigate flooding. Try and guess what colour the wall was?
The Blackwall Basin was constructed and opened in 1802 to provide greater control over water levels and to reduce silting. It was the most critical point of the original dock system and the first non-tidal dock entrance basin ever built. It's an enormous entrance lock. For example, a number of ships could be locked into the basin at high tide, stay afloat when the tide receded and proceed into the docks when convenient, without changing the water level inside the docks.
Blackwall Tunnel is actually a pair of road tunnels routing traffic underneath the River Thames from south east to east London. It links Greenwich borough to the Tower Hamlets. The guy who masterminded London's sewage system, Joseph Bazalgette, helped with its early design phase. The tunnel was originally a single bore when it opened in 1897 and you could walk, cycle or go through by horse. By the 30s, it was already struggling with capacity. A second bore finally opened in 1967. They then used the two bores to divide north and southbound traffic.
We cover a lot of Brutalist structures in this series and these buildings are some of the most iconic. Both of these housing blocks on the Brownfield Estate are designed by none other than Ernő Goldfinger. They are of course, Grade II listed together with their big brother Balfron Tower where Goldfinger lived for a while. Their design and construction have proved to be of better quality than a lot of the other post-war high-rise blocks and visitors flock their during the annual Open House Weekend.
Chrisp Street market on the Lansbury Estate was designed by Frederick Gibberd and built as part of the Festival of Britain in 1951 as the first purpose-built pedestrian shopping area in the United Kingdom. It features a prominent clock tower, surrounded by shops, pubs, cafes, apartments and about 80 market stalls. It hosts a monthly street food event called Bite on the last Friday of each month
An old tailor called Sir Montague Burton started selling garments in Poplar. If you bought a full three-piece suit, a shirt, and all of the trimmings from Montague, it would be known as the fully Monty. Anytime you walk into a Burton on the high street, you can be reminded of this phrase.

Magic moments on the London Eye at sunset over London town. Landscapes were wonderful and the view was lost to infinity on the horizon where the sun was setting, filling the sky with beautiful colors. With a great and unusual view of the majestic Big Ben, absolutely an experience that I recommend to those who visit the magical city of London.

Portobello Road antiques market, Notting Hill, London W10 W11

Portobello Market in West London is one of the most famous street markets in the world. It is a popular destination for Londoners and tourists alike.
Portobello Road goes straight through the heart of Notting Hill, the trendy area of London made famous by the film.
Portobello Market takes up most of what is actually more properly called Portobello Road, it stretches for around two miles, although on a crowded Saturday afternoon it takes quite a while to walk from end to end.
Portobello Road's distinctiveness does not just rely on its market. A range of communities inhabiting the street and the district contributes to a cosmopolitan and energetic atmosphere, as do the many restaurants and pubs. The architecture plays a part, too, as the road meanders and curves gracefully along most of its length.
Many of the Pubs, Antique Arcades and Streets around and about the area have exotic sounding names - few people realise that they are mostly historic, the area of Portobello was originally a farm, which was named after Puerto Bello in the Caribbean in memory of Admiral Vernon who captured the town in 1739.
Since then the area has become built up with houses, shopfronts and the street market, however pub names such as the Portobello Gold and the Portobello Star (navigation) are references to those heady seafaring days off the Spanish Main. One of the Antiques Arcades is known as the Admiral Vernon.
In more recent history, the film Notting Hill has made an alternative history in a way, people want to visit the market because it was the location of a film they have seen.
The Trellick Tower is arguably the most famous piece of council house architecture in London, if not the country. The tower of tightly packed flats, with the separate lift tower bringing people every third floor, was designed by Erno Goldfinger (who based his design on the Trellick's little sister - the Balfron Tower in east London) in 1966 for the Greater London Council. Construction was completed in 1972.
