A VLOG of an evening drinking around the bars of Phnom Penh, Cambodia. This is the second part of the evening and starts around 1am as I went out too late on this night...
The parts of this video include:
0:04 Intro, a mototaxi ride along the riverfront to 136 street
0:45 Map of the locations in this video
0:50 The Corner 136 bar - chatting with a friendly hostess lady
3:15 View of Ostro bar
5:23 Hostess ladies sleeping on the job
8:12 Some trouble?
10:39 View of the Candy bar, a 24 hour place that is the last stop of the night for many
11:53 $1 mototaxi ride to street 51
16:18 Pontoon Nightclub, I went in on this night but went straight out as there were too many security guys in there and the atmosphere wasn't good. Who wants 3 security guys to stand right behind them if they're eyeing up the freelancers?
16:56 3 girls on a bike, the thumbnail shot
17:23 Do it all pub - an African guy shouting at something (can anyone translate?)
18:03 Sorya Beer garden closed for renovations
18:25 Random bar
19:00 View of Shanghai hostess bar, the longest running bar of it's kind in Phnom Penh
19:40 $1 mototaxi ride back to Silver River hotel, Street 172
21:36 Late night a couple argue outside the hotel
22:02 Outro
Additional comments:
Street 172
This is Phnom Penh's cheap charlie area. It is home to many inexpensive bars, restaurants, guesthouses and also has a few hostess bars thrown in for good measure.
It is a good place to find $0.50 draught beers and many expat teachers congregate here in groups for the inexpensive offerings. The food is generally good here and many restaurants do take away service for the local expats.
$1 moto taxi rides.
I went everywhere via tuk tuk or moto taxi and never paid more than $1 for a trip. Sometimes the tuk tuks on the riverfront will insist on $2 for a short journey.
Phnom Penh is not a place to wander around alone late at night, even around the tourist areas. Cambodia is a much poorer country than Thailand, and reports of incidents against tourists/expats often are suppressed in the news.
Street 136
The Corner 136 bar is my favourite in all of Phnom Penh. The drink prices are creeping up and it's now $2 for a draught beer. My hostess lady was very friendly on this night, I told her right away I wasn't going to barfine her but she was ok with that and stayed for a couple of drinks.
Some ladies in the Phnom Penh hostess bars are only there for lady drinks, particularly the prettier ladies under 25 years old. It's best to know the score before you start buying them loads of drinks. Other times some girls will only go with Asian customers (eg. Korean, Japanese).
I heard a story about a Phnom Penh hostess bar where a Western guy bought a nice hostess 5 lady drinks, but in the end she wouldn't go to his hotel as she was only a drinks girl. He was really pissed off and was telling everyone about it...
Street 51
Sorya beer garden was being renovated at the time I visited so I can't comment on that.
Pontoon was bad on this and every night I visited Phnom Penh for this trip. It might just have been bad luck for me as nightclubs can be fickle from night to night...

Traveling Cambodia: Phnom Penh
After exploring Siem Reap (we loved it there), we booked a flight to Sihanoukville in the south, though we couldn't wait for the monsoon rains to subside, which are especially heavy on the southern coast. We're getting short on travel time, so instead we headed to Phnom Penh, the bus was cheap and comfortable. Phnom Penh is our last destination before crossing the border into Vietnam.
Thanks for coming on this journey with us!

Christine
Cambodia Bus Travel (Siem Reap to Battambang)
There are several bus companies works between Siem Reap and Battambang. Most buses depart from Chong Kov Sou bus station (2km from town center) but you have to ask the ticket agent to make sure. Bus ticket prices (depending on the company) $3-10. At the time that we take a bus from Siem Reap to Battambang (12.2013) Phnom Penh Sorya Transport and VGS Travel & Tours bus companies were the best ones but dont forget this can change easily. Bus ride takes around 4-5 hours but delays are common. Almost any travel or tour agent around Siem Reap can book your seat and print your ticket.
Seats were comfortable but you have to listen Cambodian karaoke videos all the way and sound was pretty high. There was one stop for 30 minutes at the middle of the road. You can use toilets, buy some fruit or drinks. There are other transportation options between Siem Reap - Battambang like boat (depending on season) and private taxi.
