Beef Island is an island in the British Virgin Islands. It is located to the east of Tortola, and the two islands are connected by the Queen Elizabeth Bridge. Beef Island is the site of the Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport , the main commercial airport that serves Tortola and the rest of the British Virgin Islands. Trellis Bay is a short walk east of the airport. Trellis Bay is a small town, with a market, a restaurant, a coffee shop, local craftshops and a beach. Long Bay is west of the airport.

Scrub Island of the British Virgin Islands in the Caribbean is a part of the Lesser Antilles, a group of islands that are young volcanic or coral islands. It is home to the Scrub Island Resort Marina and Spa. In late 2013 the Scrub Island Resort went into bankruptcy protection in the United States, and was locked in dispute with its primary lender, FirstBank, after receivers were appointed in the British Virgin Islands in relation to unpaid loans made to the Resort. The resort emerged from Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in November 2015.

Welcome to Bella—our floating home in the BVIs! She’s a brand new 45’ catamaran with 4 suites and plenty of space to lounge!

Tortola
We fly into Beef Island Airport on Tortola, where we explore Road Town on foot before meeting our family and friends for our sailing trip. Road Town is still under lots of construction as the BVIs continue to rebuild after the devastation of Hurricane Irma in 2017.

Cooper Island
Cooper Island Beach Club is a must visit! You can enjoy lunch and dinner in the beachfront restaurant, plus happy hour and stunning sunsets from the deck. My favorite part of the afternoon was a visit to the gourmet coffee shop where I enjoyed a delicious affogato! You can also visit the Rum Bar which has over 230 rums from around the world. Not a bad way to spend the afternoon.

Virgin Gorda
The main attraction of Virgin Gorda is The Baths, a geological wonder comprised of awe-inspiring granite boulders, which form sheltered sea pools on the beach's edge. You can take a nice walk to Devil's Bay, which can be reached from The Baths by a series of ladders scaling the boulders. The walk isn’t too difficult and a must-do when visiting Virgin Gorda!

Cane Garden Bay
A long and lovely curved bay that’s sheltered from heavy winds, Cane Garden Bay lies on Tortola’s north shore. After mooring, you can dinghy to shore and enjoy the lively bars and restaurants that line the beach. It’s a beautiful spot for watching the sunset.

White Bay at Jost van Dyke
White Bay is aptly named for it’s white sand beach lined with beach bars. The most famous bar is Soggy Dollar Bar, where boaters reached the beach by swimming to shore, and then paid for their drinks with their soggy dollars. Soggy Dollar is home to the original Painkiller — you won’t be able to resist having just one.

Foxy’s
Foxy’s has been serving food and strong rum drinks to sailors and visitors since 1968. No trip to the BVIs is complete without a visit to Foxy’s. Watch our video to see a funny clip of the local “tickler.”

The Bubbles at Little Jost van Dyke
I saw the Bubbly Pool at low tide, and I imagine it would be more impactful at high tide; it’s supposedly like a natural jacuzzi! While the walk to get there is not more than 10-15 minutes, the terrain is uneven and might be a little steep for some.

Norman Island
Norman Island is an island at the southern tip of the BVIs archipelago, and supposedly one of a number of islands reputed to be the inspiration for Robert Louis Stevenson's pirate novel Treasure Island. When you visit, you can see why. Norman Island is the perfect island for paddle boarding, relaxing, kayaking, exploring, and playing with crazy conchs. We enjoyed our sunrise hike to the top of Norman Island which had a pretty incredible viewpoint.

After a fantastic week of sailing, it was time to head back to NYC for adventureViV’s birthday! Thank you, Captain Harold for the dock to dock service and for an unforgettable week sailing Bella.

Raffles Hotels & Resorts (Tortola, British Virgin Islands)

I composed the music for Raffles Hotels & Resorts for their Tortola location in the British Virgin Islands. The greatest thing about this project was going into the studio with a female singer and getting her to sing in a made-up language that sounded exotic and somewhat tribal. The music was very well received and this was great fun! Creative direction by Haymaker (Vancouver, BC).
