BEST HIKE IN NORWAY ? - BESSEGGEN | twoplustwocrew
We walked the famous Besseggen Walk in Norway.... stunning no wonder it's one of National Geographics top 20 hikes. Long day but definitely a great family experience.
We were staying at nearby Beitostolen and drove 20 mins to catch the early morning ferry (7.45am) to the mid way point of the walk and walk back the carpark.
So you either catch the ferry in or catch the ferry back as the walk takes 5 to 8 hours depending on your group. As we had small children in our group we wanted it to be quite relaxing and stop for plenty of meal breaks. It took us 7.5 hours.
TripAdvisor Jackiedan says and I agree:
This is one outstanding hike. There are several ways to do it depending on how long you wish to walk, whether you wish to camp etc...
If you have two days to spare and wish to do a fair amount of walking, i would suggest the following:
Day 1:
Arrive at Gjendesheim (by rental car if you have one) in the mid morning. Leave the car and take a small back pack with food, warm clothes and anything needed for 1 night away. Follow the signposted routes up the mountain. You will start walking uphill immediately. The uphill lasts for around 2 or 3 hours. Once at the top, you walk flat until going back down again. The views are outstanding. Follow signs for Memurubu which is where you'll spend the evening. It is a fairly large tourist hut which provides an evening meal (very substantial and hearty) and breakfast. The whole walk from Gjendesheim to Memurubu will take between 6 and 8 hours.
Day 2:
You can either take the boat back from Memurubu to Gjendesheim, walk back the way you came or walk along the shores of the lake. We chose the latter. It takes about 3 or 4 hours and is a mostly flat, simple path. It is extremely picturesque!

Day 2 of our Ski trip to Norway, The Christmas Market in Oslo.
We take the metro to central Oslo to check out the christmas market and have a wander round. There is ice skating in the square and a great selection of food stalls as well as local products, The kids could't resist the caramelised nuts and a peppery sausage in front of an open fire they have to warm up by. Great music from the street buskers lots of sculpture and some very swanky places to eat along the harbourside.

FISHING FOR TROUT IN NORWAY - CAMP Day.2 | Twoplustwocrew
Lakeside camping (Day 2) at Beito Camp by lake Oyangen in Beitostolen, Norway.
We cooked blueberry pancakes on the fire for breakfast after sleeping lakeside in a traditional Norwegian hut, then we tried out trawiling for trout... apparently there were some in the lake, but think the noise from the kids probably scared them all off! It was a lovely evening out on the boat and the kids loved it.

CAMPING FOR FREE !!! IN NORWAY | twoplustwocrew
CAMPING FOR FREE !!! IN NORWAY | twoplustwocrew
More from our summer road trip - Wilderness camping or wild camping in Norway is free... They call it your 'right to roam' in Norway, basically means you are allowed to camp anywhere as long as it's not close to any house... We were nervous at first that we were truly allowed but everyone was so friendly and encouraging that we really enjoyed it and got more and more adventurous into our road trip and even ended up camping by a glacier (watch the video).
Please check the link here for the wilderness camping guidelines:

NORWAY - WATERPARK BADELANDET KRISTIANSAND REVIEW | twoplustwocrew
NORWAY SUMMER HOLIDAY - review
We spent hours playing in all the heated outdoor and indoor pools at the Waterpark. Its called Badelandet. Its 11kms (6 miles) outside Kristiansand. It is next to the Dyreparken zoo and you can buy combined tickets or go separately from the zoo. It is a whole island full of fun swimming experiences. There are lots of slides and pools - both indoor and outdoor for everyone...from babies...to teenagers...adults and grandparents!
There are plenty of picnic spots to choose from outside or there are eating places indoors...its up to you! We chose the sunshine and fed the ducks on the shore of the island while watching the pirate ships go by from Dyreparken Zoo. The kids ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!!!

Hiking Rampestreken viewpoint in Åndalsnes (Norway)
This hiking season 2017 we started with a spectacular hike to one of the scenic viewpoints in Fjord Norway – Rampestreken, 580 meters above sea level. Rampestreken is the part of the one of Norway’s most beautiful summit walks - Romsdalseggen that offers spectacular views of the Romsdalsfjellene mountains.
It’s classified as a moderate hike, however, some parts, especially the last part, is rather steep – but manageable. The hike starts in the centre of the small town Åndalsnes. The path is well marked with signposts and red marks painted on trees and rocks. Moreover, there are signs telling you the elevation every 100 height-meters from the goal. Most of the path goes through the forest consisting of woodland tracks and stone steps made by Nepalese Sherpas in the steepest parts.
We went there with our two kids (1 and 8 years old) on Easter holidays at the end of April. As this hike is popular with locals and tourists alike, we decided to start our climb very early in the morning to be sure, that we would enjoy these amazing views peacefully by ourselves. The weather was luckily perfect so here are some stunning pictures from our hike!
Extra info:
Season: April – November
Distance: 1.6 km
Duration: 1.5h
Elevation difference: 552m
Grading: medium
Suitable for kids: Yes
Footwear: suitable for a rough hike, or sneakers.
Don’t forget to bring enough water.
