Welcome to last episode of Loving Belize, this one is a whirlwind tour of Belize.
- In this episode you are taken to the Archeology symposium in San Ignacio, with interviews from leading archeologists.
- Then you are taken to Benque Viejo del Carmen a town 3 km from the Guatemalan border for the festival of the virgin Carmen, lebrates the day of Benque's patron saint Our Lady of Mount Carmel (Nuestra Señora de Monte Carmelo) with traditional marimba bands.
- From there we go to Spanish Lookout, where we get a look into the oil drilling business in Belize.
- From there we travel across the country to the island of Caye Caulker where you'll met the organizer for the Poor and Famous Boys club.
- Then we visit the village of Hopkins where you'll be enchanted by the Garifona community.
- Across the country again and right down south to San Perdo Columbia where a poetry and rap festival to promote the Rainforest Academy will bring a smile to your face.
- Back to San Ignacio to it's lively market, and it's sister village Santa Elena where I give a work shop in stop animation in the local Library to the children.
- Then you are taken on a very educational journey through the jungle of Belize with a Maya Bush Doctor.
- Then you are taken to a village which was split in half when the border of Belize was laid down, the village of Arenal on the border of Belize and Guatemala, divides a football pitch in the heart of the village.
- Finally We go back to San Ignacio for an out door box match between Belize and Guatemala.
- Then I say good bye at the airport of Cancun as I fly to my next destination Vancouver BC where I will be doing another documentary series about BC in the winter. Corozol Free Zone - Belize
About 3 1/2 hours south of Playa del Carmen sits the beautiful City of Chetumal - the Captial of Quintana Roo. 10 mins south of that is the crossing into the Corozol Free Zone in Belize - just go over the Overpass and you are there ( under the Pass takes you to the new crossing into Belize - but that's another story.) We did this as a daytrip and to check Belize out - and it was a gas. We parked on the Mexican side and walked across the bridge. There is no real Border Customs crossing into Belize here - just a Mexican exit and reentry point. At a small booth by the bridge you surrender your visa ( the one you got on the plane or at the border entry point ) at a cost of 300 pesos - about $25. When you reenter on the other side of the bridge you receive a new one at no cost ( Most people aren't aware of the Visa cost as it is usually included in your air carriers ticket. As you can see there are numerous shops with many name brand products - like Gucci, Crocs, Chanel, Victoria Secret, etc - all at rock bottom prices. Also there are many famous and exotic outlets like - The Las Vegas Hotel, The Bellagio, Taj Mahal, Yang's, Genish - great deals at great prices - unless of course they are knockoffs ...naww However, liquor was quite cheap ( not all..you have to pick and choose ) and as tourists we were allowed to bring back 3 bottles each. My friend has permanent Mexican status as well as his Canadian and wasn't allowed to bring back booze without paying any duty. We also tried out the Casino - filled mainly with slot machines. The Zone is small enough that the small 'cabs' that abound cost 30 pesos for the three of us. We did wander up to the far end of the Zone to the border crossing into Belize itself to get a stamp on our passports but were discouraged by the Customs agent -unless we were planning on actually travelling further (it was suggested that this was because some people do this just to renew their Mexican visas after the maximum 180 day limit. Motorcycle ride.... next time.

Cahal Pech is in San Ignacio, The site sits atop the hill and is considered a royal city. It is fairly small but it has been pulled out of the jungle for us to return to and visit. We have been here twice, it is a great spot to go, sit and have a picnic as well .. the sounds of nature surround you ..it is a really great place to visit ..

Great Belize Cooking is the newest show produced by Great Belize Television - Channel 5. It is a travelling showcase of the different cultural foods and ingredients used within communities throughout the country of Belize.
Host & chef, Sean Kuylen, takes viewers on this culinary journey, and even creates gourmet recipes using the traditional ingredients in non-traditional ways.
