Bicton is a riverside suburb of Perth, Western Australia, located 10 kilometres south-west of the central business district. The suburb is mostly residential, and falls within the City of Melville local government area. Bicton borders the Swan River to the north, with the northern third of the suburb taken up by a Class-A reserve at Point Walter. Cottesloe is a western suburb of Perth, Western Australia, within the Town of Cottesloe. Cottesloe was named for Thomas Fremantle, 1st Baron Cottesloe, a prominent Tory politician and the brother of Admiral Sir Charles Fremantle for whom the city of Fremantle was named. The nearby suburb of Swanbourne was named for the Fremantle family seat, Swanbourne House, in Swanbourne, Buckinghamshire. Cottesloe was home to Australian Prime Minister John Curtin. The house he built still stands in Jarrad Street. It is now vested jointly in the National Trust of Australia and Curtin University.

If you go onto Point Walter road off of Leach Highway and continue past the golf course, all the way down to the end of the road, there is a jetty with a great view. There is also a long sand peninsular going 200 meters into the river than you can walk on at low tide.

As the site of one of the first farms in the colony and the earliest residence still standing in the metropolitan area, Peninsula Farm (Tranby) offers a unique opportunity to explore the first years of European settlement in Western Australia. Constructed by Joseph Hardey in 1839, it was the third house he had built on Peninsula Farm, a property originally granted to him in 1830. Over the years the house was added to, expanded outwards and upwards. At the same time, the farm became smaller and smaller. Peninsula Farm remained in the Hardey family until 1913.

Joseph Hardey, and his son Richard, who took over management of the property in the late 1860s, were highly influential in the religious, business and political activities of the colony. Peninsula Farm, however, tells more than just their stories. It also tells of their wives and daughters, the women and servants who ran the house and the workers who ran the farm. It tells of farming, and how families and the young colony sustained themselves.
