Top best places to visit in Cardiff, Wales
Cardiff is the capital and largest city of Wales and the tenth largest city in the United Kingdom.
Cardiff, City of Arcades, is famous for Victorian, Edwardian and contemporary indoor shopping arcades but it’s also a national financial and cultural hub.
The center of the town is situated around Cardiff Castle.
This is a medieval castle built in the late 11th century by Norman invaders on top of the 3rd century Roman fort.
Nowadays, unique arcades and major pedestrian streets around the castle make a great atmosphere to relax and to do shopping in style.
The castle is surrounded by two parks, where you can find the City Hall, National Museum and many more impressive buildings.
At the back of town hall are the Alexandra Gardens whose center contains the beautiful National War Memorial of Wales.
Close to the Castle is also the Millennium Stadium, a must see arena for any sport lover.
One of the most popular spots among tourists and residents is Cardiff Bay.
This area is full of restaurants, bars, notable buildings and amazing views.
The first place to go here is the futuristic Wales Millennium Centre for opera, theater, gallery and tourist information.
The next landmarks to see are:
The former headquarters of the Dock Company, the Pierhead Building.
And, standing just next to it, the Senedd, home to the National Assembly for Wales.
You can also take a lovely 2km walk with the harbor on one side of the path and the sea on the other.
There are many castles just outside of the city that are worth visiting. Castell Coch is one of them.
The first stronghold on the site was built by the Normans in the 11th century, and the most recent walls comes from the 19th century.
8 miles outside of Cardiff is a small town Caerphilly which is know for its medieval castle.
The fortification, which was constructed in the 13th century, is surrounded by extensive artificial lakes.
This picturesque citadel is the second largest castle in Britain.

Places to see in ( Caerphilly - UK )
Caerphilly is a town in South Wales, at the southern end of the Rhymney Valley. It is the largest town in Caerphilly. Historically it was in the county of Glamorgan, on the border with Monmouthshire.
Caerphilly is a commuter town for Cardiff and Newport, 7.5 miles (12 km) and 12 miles (19 km) away respectively, and is separated from the Cardiff suburbs of Lisvane and Rhiwbina by Caerphilly mountain and gives its name to Caerphilly cheese.
Caerphilly has three railway stations: Caerphilly at the southern end of the town near the shopping area, Aber in the western part of the town and Energlyn & Churchill Park railway station in the far western part of the town. All on the Rhymney Line serving Cardiff.
Caerphilly Castle (Welsh: Castell Caerffili) is a medieval fortification in Caerphilly in South Wales. The castle was constructed by Gilbert de Clare in the 13th century as part of his campaign to conquer Glamorgan, and saw extensive fighting between Gilbert and his descendants and the native Welsh rulers.
The core of Caerphilly Castle, including the castle's luxurious accommodation, was built on what became a central island, surrounding by several artificial lakes, a design Gilbert probably derived from that at Kenilworth. The dams for these lakes were further fortified, and an island to the west provided additional protection.
By 1947, when John Crichton-Stuart, the fifth marquess, inherited the castle, the Bute family had divested itself of most of its land in South Wales. John sold off the family's remaining property interests and in 1950 he gave Caerphilly Castle to the state.

Caerphilly Castle - Places To See In Wales, Episode1
We visit the largest castle in Wales in the first episode of our new series “Places To See In Wales” We’ll be taking a look at some famous and not so famous places around our home country of Wales.
Caerphilly Castle is a is medieval castle just north of Cardiff in South Wales. It was built in the 13th century by Gilbert de Clare. It was used as a base to conquer Glamorganshire and there was extensive fighting between Gilbert and the Welsh.
The castle is in the centre of the town and there are great views around the area. It costs £8.50 (Dec 18) to enter the castle and it’s big enough to spend a couple of hours there. #VisitWales
One of the most striking things about the castle is the leaning south east tower. It leans at 10 degrees, there is some debate as to whether the damage was caused during the English Civil War or as a result of subsidence when the castle fell into disrepair.
Caerphilly Castle has been used as a location for many TV and film productions including many episodes of Dr Who, Wolf Hall and Restoration with Robert Downey Jr.
