1. Capas National Shrine Capas
The Capas National Shrine in Barangay Aranguren, Capas, Tarlac, Philippines was built by the Philippine government as a memorial to Allied soldiers who died at Camp O'Donnell at the end of the Bataan Death March during the Second World War. The site is a focus for commemorations on Araw ng Kagitingan , an annual observance held on 9 April—the anniversary of the surrender of US and Philippine forces to the Imperial Japan in 1942. There is also a memorial to the Czechs and some Slovaks who died fighting alongside the Filipinos and US soldiers.

Mount Pinatubo is an active stratovolcano in the Zambales Mountains, located on the tripoint boundary of the Philippine provinces of Zambales, Tarlac and Pampanga, all in Central Luzon on the northern island of Luzon. Its eruptive history was unknown to most before the pre-eruption volcanic activities of 1991, just before June. Pinatubo was heavily eroded, inconspicuous and obscured from view. It was covered with dense forests which supported a population of several thousand indigenous Aetas. Pinatubo is most notorious for its Volcanic Explosivity Index 6 eruption on June 15, 1991, the second-largest terrestrial eruption of the 20th century after the 1912 eruption of Novarupta in Alaska. Capones Island, also known as Grand Capon or Capon Grande Island is a small island approximately 1.9 kilometers long by 0.4 kilometers wide, at its widest point, lying some 3.8 kilometers off the coast of the province of Zambales on western Luzon island in the Philippines. It is the largest of the Capones Islands , a group of three small islands which also includes nearby Camara Island and another islet connected to it by a sand bar. The island is administratively part of barangay Pundaquit of the Zambales municipality of San Antonio. The island is characterized by huge rock formations and steep cliffs surrounded by white sand and coral beaches. The Capones Island Lighthouse is located on the hillside near the western end of the island.

5 fun things you can do around Manila during the rainy season

I have friends from different parts of the world who ask me if it is okay to visit the Philippines (specifically Manila), during the wet or rainy season. I know that during the rainy season, there is a chance that you could get stranded (miss your flight, or not be able to catch a boat), because there is low pressure or a full-blown typhoon in the area. But that does not stop us, Manila dwellers, from still living life to the fullest.

I have decided to create this tips vlog to assist all visitors and tourists in Manila, and for the people who live here, to figure out what to do instead of just trying to avoid doing anything fun during the rainy season.

Full disclosure! I do not advise doing any of these activities when there is a typhoon or a potential for flooding. Best you check the weather forecast and listen to the news for any information on upcoming typhoons or thunderstorms.

The rainy season in Manila starts around May to early November.

Monasterio de Tarlac from SCTEX Concepcion Exit

This trip is a combination of historical & Visita Iglesia taking off from the bridge at TPLEX near Concepcion exit passing by Capas National Shrine then to Monasterio de Tarlac in San Jose Municipality. There is a slightly tightening of traffic at Manila North Road which we will pass through for about 500M before turning left at the road between KKK Gas Station & Suzuki dealership. There are no road markings but a billboard is at the corner showing the direction to the monastery, Camp O’Donnell & Capas National Shrine. Heads up for the right turn at Cojuangco Street in Cristo Rey due to the absence of street marking but again there are billboards for showing the direction to the monastery.

Road condition is good & it can get quite lonely from Cristo Rey to Lubigan Barangay Road junction where we have met only a few & most of them motorbikes.

There is a 25 pesos entrance at Capas National Shrine but will cover the parking, a trip to the museum & even to the hanging bridge at the back. For a glimpse of history, this is not much to help the upkeep of the park.

There is ample parking space in Monasterio & a restaurant there as well. Mass is usually at 1030 Hrs and the viewing of the True Cross Relic will follow afterwards.
