Monuriki Island, Fiji. Where Tom Hanks filmed Castaway!
Monuriki is a small, uninhabited island situated off the coast of Viti Levu in the Fiji Islands, in Melanesia in the South Pacific Ocean.
Monuriki was featured as the anonymous island in the 2000 Robert Zemeckis film Cast Away, starring Tom Hanks; some tourists and travel agents refer to Monuriki as 'Cast Away Island', which is not to be confused with Castaway Island, or Qalito, an actual Fijian island within the Mamanuca Islands.
Castaway Island Fiji
Castaway Island Fiji celebrates its 50th Anniversary this November 2016! Judging by the lush island surroundings , bures (rooms / huts) and amenities, it looks like it just opened a year ago! Very well-maintained and you absolutely lose sense of worries when you are in Castaway Island. Located in the Malolo Islands of Fiji, I find out for myself why most of the guests of Castaway Island are repeat visitors and normally book their next visit before they even check out!
