Châu Đốc is a district and town in An Giang province, bordering Cambodia, in the Mekong Delta region of Vietnam. As of 2003 the district had a population of 112,155.[1] The district covers an area of 100 km².[1]
The town is located by the Hâu River (a branch of the Mekong River flowing through Vietnamese territory) and Vinh Te canal. Châu Đốc is situated 250 km west of Hồ Chí Minh City. It takes about six hours to travel by bus from Hồ Chí Minh City.
The site of Châu Đốc (Khmer:មាត់ជ្រូក) was long in history a territory of the Kingdom of Funan(Khmer:អាណាចក្រ នគរភ្នំ) (Vietnamese: Vương quốc Phù Nam). The territory became Vietnams about 300 years ago. The town is near the picturesque mount of Sam where the Sam mount lady (Vietnamese: Bà Chúa Xứ Núi Sam) is worshipped. The Sam Mount Lady Ceremony is held every April of lunar calendar (May) every year.
Mort Chrouk(Khmer:មាត់ជ្រូក) was the Cambodian name vietnamized in Chau Doc.

Filmed in late November.
One of my earliest memories of Vietnam was back in 2004 when my mom took me to Chau Doc to visit the Ba Chua Su Temple. Chau Doc is located right next to Cambodia and does not see that many tourists. However, there are interesting things about it. The fish noodle place is across the street from Dien May Xanh. The pho place is located at the beginning of the Cham Muslim neighborhood. If you visit the goddess temple be careful about the worship gift vendors. They can be very pushy and might not take no.

From Can Tho to Chau Doc - Vietnam 4K Travel Channel
Can Tho is the center of the Mekong Delta, while Chau Doc is representing the gate to Cambodia. Both cities lie along the banks of the Mekong River and the daily life in these cities is decisively shaped by this river. Coming from Ho Chi Minh City, we have already got to know the canals of the Mekong Delta. The densely branched network of these water veins was the only transport routes for a long time. In the meantime, one completed the infrastructure by a dense road network, which still permanently is improved.
For the approximately 100 km from Can Tho to Chau Doc, we take a minibus and get to know the road traffic in the Delta. The route runs along the Mekong, although the river is most of the time unseen. The predominant means of transport is still the motor scooters.
During our journey, we experience a permanent change of showers of rain and sunshine. Paddy-fields alternate with canals in which the fishing dominates. About halfway through, we pass the larger city Long Xuyên. It is the provincial capital and university city.
The traffic appears chaotic to us, although people drive very considerate. Still, we also see an accident here, which is fortunately not so bad. Near Loei in Thailand, we saw an accident in the morning, where a scooter with three persons probably raced into a truck. Three dead people lay on a crossroads. The sight was terrible and reminded that road traffic is the third leading cause of death in Thailand. It is probably similar in Vietnam.
We get a very tasty lunch at an idyllic lotus pond, whose lotus flowers have already faded.
But we are glad when we reach Chau Doc and can exchange the car with a boat again.

- Bún Cá Dì Lệ gốc cây me.
