Today we head out on a Guatemala City tour where we visit all the top attractions and we eat really authentic Guatemalan street food that you can only dream of.
Our first stop is the Guatemalan Typography Map where you can see what the country looks like with mountains, volcanoes and low lands. Next we head to Zone 1 (the historical center) and visit the central park. There we tried some fresh goat milk, saw the national palace, metropolitan cathedral and then head over the central market.
The central market is the biggest artisan market in Guatemala. We did a little shopping and then went to the lower level and ate some authentic Guatemalan street food. Here is a list of everything I tried:
-Pork Rind Taco
-Blood Sausage Taco
-Alot de Etole
-Tosta de Tomate
-Carrot Juice
-Chille Relleno Taco
Next time you head to Guatemala I recommend working with my friends at #VisitGuatemala

Guatemala Travel Video Guide
Guatemala Travel Video Guide - Guatemala has a rich and distinctive culture from the long mix of elements from Spain and the native Maya people. This diverse history and the natural beauty of the land have created a destination rich in interesting and scenic sites.
Spanning a mountainous slice of Central America immediately south of Mexico, Guatemala is loaded with incredible natural, historical and cultural appeal. As the birthplace and heartland of the ancient Maya, the country is in many ways defined by the legacy of this early civilization. Their rainforest cities were abandoned centuries ago, but Maya people continue to thrive in the Guatemalan highlands, where traditions and religious rituals, mingled with Catholic practices, endure to form the richest and most distinctive indigenous identity in the hemisphere.
Guatemala today is very much a synthesis of Maya and colonial traditions, fused with the omnipresent influences of twenty-first century Latin and North American culture. Baroque churches dating back to the Spanish Conquest coexist with pagan temples that have been sites of worship for millennia. Highland street markets prosper alongside vast glitzy shopping malls, and pre-Columbian festival dances are performed by teenage hip-hop fans.
All this in your Guatemala Travel Video Guide!

We started the day at 5:30am and drove three hours west to Chichicastenango. Are first stop in Chichicastenango was the arch of Gucumatz. This is the entrance to the city and also in the Maya religion to the under world!
We then walk through the whole city and I tried fresh orange juice, pupusas and home made ice cream. Everything was so good! From their we made are way to the Maya cemetery via the poultry market.
After exploring the maya cemetery we went all out shopping. I bought a ton of wood carved mask, Mariel bought some clothing and I bought a table runner for my wife.
We then visited Santo Tomas Church which is the most iconic spot in the city. It's famous because this church is a unified church between Catholicism and the Maya religion.
Next up we went to lunch at the Maya Inn hotel. He we tried some Culche and some Pepian de Pollo which is a traditional dish in Chichicastenango.
After exploring the whole town we drove back to Guatemala city and on the way we stopped at Iximche. This Maya archeological site is one of the most important because this is where the Spanish took country of the country.

Market Day in Chichicastenango, Guatemala
On market day in Chichicastenango where the villagers gather, one can experience the vibrant Mayan culture.
Music: Second Nature
by Audionautix from YouTube Audio Library
Caption:
The Mayan civilization has disappeared, but the Mayan descendants are alive and well. The western Guatemalan highland has the largest and most traditional Mayan population.
The markets around Lake Atitlán are the best place to meet the Mayans.
The chicken buses, converted from retired U.S. school buses, bring people to the market from the surrounding areas.
There are many markets around the lake. The largest and most colorful one is indisputably in Chichicastenango.
The Church of Santo Tomás of Chichicastenango is at the center of the market place.
In the midst of the busy market one can also see worshippers who come to the church to perform religious rituals, many of which have Mayan roots.
Part of the market is for tourists where traditional Mayan handcrafts and textiles are for sale.
But the best part is to watch Mayans trade with each other. Here one canreally experience the vibrant and thriving Mayan culture.
Mayan textile is an ancient craft that survived uninterrupted for centuries. Their traditional dress is not only attractive, but also a statement of their personal and village identity.
For those who are interested in the living Mayan culture, Guatemala highlands is the place to visit.
