Colfax is a city in Placer County, California, at the crossroads of Interstate 80 and State Route 174. It is part of the Sacramento–Arden-Arcade–Roseville Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 1,963 at the 2010 census. The town is named in honor of U.S. Vice President Schuyler Colfax , a bronze statue of whom stands at Railroad Street and Grass Valley Street. . Some of the town's notable features include the newly restored Southern Pacific Railroad colonnade-style depot built in 1905, the downtown shops on Main Street, and Colfax High School, which serves a large surrounding area.

The Harvey's Resort Hotel bombing took place on August 26–27, 1980, when three men planted an elaborately booby trapped bomb containing 1,000 pounds of dynamite at Harvey's Resort Hotel in Stateline, Nevada, United States. The mastermind behind the bomb, former millionaire John Birges, was attempting to extort $3 million from the casino, claiming he had lost $750,000 gambling there. The FBI went to the spot that they believed to be the ransom drop, but due to vague directions, Birges was waiting at a different location. No money was paid to Birges.The bomb was cleverly built and virtually tamper-proof. Rollins Dam is a dam on the border of Nevada and Placer counties in northern California, in the United States. The earthen dam was constructed in 1965 by the Nevada Irrigation District, with a height of 228 feet , and a length of 1,840 feet at its crest. It impounds the Bear River, a tributary of the Feather River, for hydropower, flood control, irrigation water storage, and municipal water use. The dam is one of the ten facilities owned and operated by the Nevada Irrigation District. The dam is part of the Yuba-Bear Hydroelectric Project. The reservoir it creates, Rollins Reservoir, has a normal water surface of 1.3 square miles , and a maximum capacity of 66,000 acre-feet. Recreation includes trout fishing in the spring, and bass fishing in the summer.

Here is a historical, one of a kind find located in the heart of Terre Haute which was originally a Vaudeville Theater. Built in 1915, this theater originally had 1700 seats and opened in 1916 as the Hippodrome Theater. Many big names in show business performed here such as Lucille Ball, Will Rogers, Bob Hope, George Burns and Gracie Allen. In 1935, the building was converted to movies but with limited success. In 1956, The Valley of Terre Haute purchased the property and the Scottish Rite used if for presentations till present day. There are several elaborate “drops” which can change the stage scene from a wooded camp site to a lodge room, to a Cathedral as well as several different backdrops. The acoustics were fantastic and the building designer, John Eberson was ahead of his time. Become a part of the rich, Terre Haute history by purchasing, preserving and making this building a useful part of Terre Haute again.
