Schlawingos on Tour Türkei - Ägäis
There are few countries in Europe which are interesting for motorcycle adventurers. Turkey is one of them. There are still many undiscovered places with adventurous stretches. You can drive hundreds of kilometers without seeing anybody. Whoever is looking for a great adventure is in good hands when traveling to Turkey.
My second Turkey trip movie was completely plan-less. I met my brother in Turkey and we just started our tour, heading nowhere. We actually wanted to explore the Black Sea coast but due to unforeseen circumstances, we had to cancel it. Without a plan, we discovered the Aegean Sea region and visited world famous places like Ephesus, natural wonders like Pamukkale and many unknown beauty spots and unknown stretches just made for bikers. I just want to show how awe inspiring the motorcycling in Turkey is, and how warmly you are welcomed by everybody living there.
From 20 hours film material, I cut almost 1.5 hours (unfortunately) and seasoned with fiery Anatolian music created a witty documentary film full of surprises.
Filmed with Multicam technology, featuring scenes with many different camera perspectives.
DVD Features:
Movie run time : 84 minutes, 16:9 Screen, PAL, Language: German, Subtitles: German, English, Turkish.

Eastern BlackSea Region of Turkey
The Black Sea Region
Lush and green throughout the year, rocky mountains, the cool waters of the coast and plantations of tea, hazelnuts, tobacco and corn, the Black Sea is a unique part of the country. The main industry is farming, thanks mainly to the high rainfall, andin the summer the roadsides are lined with hazelnuts drying in the sun. The culture, cuisine, climate and even dialect is different to the rest of Turkey, and the coastal road stretches from east of Istanbul to the border with Georgia.
The cities in this region are Amasya, Artvin, Bolu, Corum, Duzce, Giresun, Gumushane, Kastamonu, Ordu, Rize, Samsun, Sinop, Tokat, Trabzon Zonguldak, Bartin and Karabuk. Akcakoca is on the far western side of the coast, with endless hazelnutorchards. Inland to the east is Safranbolu, with a wonderful collection of old Ottoman houses, and Devek, famous for its intricately carved walking canes.Further along the coast are Inkum, Amasra and Cakraz, and then Sinop which has been a port for 1000 years and is still one of the biggest in the Black Sea. The town takes its name from the Amazon queen Sinope and local mythology suggests that femalewarriors, called Amazons, lived in this region. It is now an important industrial and commercial centre.Unye and Fatsa, east of Samsun, are popular holiday resorts with natural scenic beauty, beaches, accommodation, campsites and restaurants.
Ordu is a charming city with hazelnut orchards stretching out for miles in all directions and 46km east isGiresun, with its castle perched on a steep rocky slope, crowning the city and overlooking the beach. This is where the Roman general Lucullus saw cherries for the first time, and liked them so much he introduced them into Europe.Trabzon is another important commercial port on the Black Sea, and it connects with ports in other Black Sea countries. Trabzon Castle was founded on an area shaped like a table, and the architecture that developed around the castle reflects Byzantine,Commagene and Ottoman styles. The city's most important building is the Ayasofya Museum, the interior of which is decorated with frescoes, and the exterior with reliefs. From Boztepe Park and the Ataturk Museum there are stunning panoramic views ofthe city.
Inside the Altindere National Park near Macka, the Sumela Monastery is perched on high cliffs overlooking the Altindere valley, and was founded in the 14th century by Alexius III. Inside the monastery is a church, a library, various other rooms and asacred spring. The area around Rize is the wettest in the country with wonderful shades of green, and is the centre of Turkey's tea production with plantations on the high terraces. Hopa is the last Turkish port before reaching the Georgian border, and to the southis Artvin. The city was established on the terraced hills overlooking the Coruh River, which is well known for rafting, and within the province are old Georgian houses and churches.

TURKEY: Tea and culinary delights - 2. Ankara - Gaziantep
The ancient city of Amasya is surrounded with mountains from all directions, protecting it from the cold winds. The Eshilirmak River divides the Old town into two parts.
On the mountain top, stands the fortress above the tombs of Pontic Tsars.
According to the well-established scheme, the travelers intended to spend the night there. But here is what happened. Police has arrived. Police officers assured us, that it is dangerous to sleep here and nearly forcefully drove us to a safer, in their opinion, place — in the city park.
The Black Sea coast of Turkey is not part of popular beach destinations. The water is colder here than in the Aegean or Mediterranean Seas. Besides, a wide high-speed highway was laid directly on the coast line. Those, who will come to sunbathe here, should reconcile with noise and exhaust gases.
Rize — the capital of Turkish tea. All the surroundings and the hill slopes in the city are occupied by tea plantations.
The cooking technique and the use of the real Turkish tea is just a little simpler, than the well-known Chinese tea ceremony.
The Black Sea coast of Turkey is separated from the Central Anatolia by the high Pontic Mountains. The highways were paved through them.
But there are also pedestrian tracks. The most popular one begins in the settlement of Ayder, and goes over the pass at the altitude of 3150 meters across the Kachkar ridge. The route is calculated for two days, but our travelers set the goal to make it in only one. Not for the sake of setting any record. They have no warm gear to spend the night in a tent at big height.
Kars was founded in the 4th century. In the 10th century, it was the capital of Armenia, then was part of Georgia. And only in the 16th century, it became part of the Ottoman Empire.
The Gechivan Fortress remained here from the Armenian town, that used to be on this place in the 3rd century AD. After Persians had destroyed the town, Kurds settled on the ruins. They built houses and sheds out of debris from the ancient constructions.
In Bayazet Fortress, during the Russian-Turkish war of 1877-78, the Russian garrison had been defending from the attacks of the Turkish army for 23 days. The position of the fortress on the steep rocky ledge helped them to withstand it. It is not easy to reach it now either.
The Van Lake is the biggest soda lake in the world. There is so much soda dissolved in the water, that it feels oily. But it is possible to swim. At the beginning of October, the water is still fairly warm.
The ruins of the ancient city have remained in the outskirts of Ahlat, that was destroyed by the Persian Shah Takhmasp I, in 1548. The remains of the city walls are inhabited caves.
Bitlis was a large shopping center in the Middle Ages. In the 16th century, the Kurdish beaks used to govern here, and then the city got under the power of Turks. But the majority of the population is still Kurds.
Hasankeyf is considered among the oldest cities of the world. The first settlement appeared on this place about nine thousand years ago. People lived in caves back then. Part of them remained until now. The city was growing, developing and aging. It won't be here soon.
Midiat is situated near Syria. There are many Christians here of Syriac Orthodox Church. Therefore, wine is not under a ban. It is also produced here and sold openly.
The City of Mardin was founded by Assyrians. Since that old time, many nationalities lived here — a real melting pot digested Arabs, Kurds, Turks and Armenians. And now, there are mosques and churches, the Arab palaces and the Turkish mud huts standing side by side. And far bellow, the valleys of the Northern Syria are visible.
Shanlyurfa or The Sacred Urfa is a very ancient city. By the legend, Eden from the Old Testament, is located somewhere here.
Harran or Carrhae — one of the most ancient cities of the world. It was mentioned in the biblical book of Genesis as the place of burial of the father prophet Abraham — Farrah. Other characters of the Bible lived here too.
