Courtenay is a city on the east coast of Vancouver Island, in the Canadian province of British Columbia. It is the largest city in the area commonly known as the Comox Valley, and it is the seat of the Comox Valley Regional District, which replaced the Comox-Strathcona Regional District. Courtenay is just 4 km west of the town of Comox, 7 km northeast of the village of Cumberland, 5 km northwest of the unincorporated settlement of Royston, and 108 km northwest of Nanaimo. The city, along with Nanaimo and Victoria, is home to The Canadian Scottish Regiment , a Primary Reserve infantry regiment of the Canadian Forces.

Miracle Beach Provincial Park is a provincial park on the eastern shore of Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada. Located between Comox and Campbell River, the park includes a foreshore area in the Strait of Georgia, much of the Black Creek estuary, and a forested area. According to its Master Plan, it fulfills primarily a recreational role with a focus on beach play, picnicking, nature appreciation, and camping, and a secondary conservation role with a focus on the natural shoreline and estuary. Vegetation in the park is typical for the region's forests with Douglas-fir most prominent. Common associates include Western hemlock, Sitka spruce, red alder and bigleaf maple. Salal is the most abundant shrub. Black Creek, which flows through the park, is a spawning area for salmon.

Kitty Coleman Provincial Park, also known as Kitty Coleman Beach Provincial Park, is a provincial park in British Columbia, Canada. It is located on Vancouver Island, in the Courtney/Comox area, south of the mouth of the Oyster River just northeast of Courtenay. Unlike most provincial parks, it is a Class 'C' provincial park, meaning it is run by a local community board., and is usually filled with local campers. The beach is directly across from the sites and provides a beautiful view of Powell River and the surrounding beaches across the water. There are only pit toilets available, and no hook-up or sani-station for motorhomes. It is approximately 0.1 km2 in area.

VIctoria British Columbia is a popular port of call for Alaskan Cruise Passengers traveling between Seattle or Vancouver and Alaska.
The US law requires foreign flagged ships traveling between US ports be subject to US taxes so like Ensenada Mexico, Victoria BC makes a great place for cruise ships to stop to fulfill their foreign port requirement.
There is no doubt that Victoria is a beautiful city but you can see most of it in a half day or even less depending on what you are interested in. This video slide show is will give you an idea of what to expect if you are considering an Alaskan Cruise that makes a stop in Victoria.

The Comox Valley on Vancouver Island is only a 25 min flight from Vancouver International Airport. By ferry and highway from Metro Vancouver via Nanaimo, in about 3 hours.

I spent day with my friend Spencer visiting the communities of Comox, Courtenay and Cumberland in the Comox Valley.
