    Dvin was a large commercial city and the capital of early medieval Armenia. It was situated north of the previous ancient capital of Armenia, the city of Artaxata, along the banks of the Metsamor River, 35 km to the south of modern Yerevan. The site of the ancient city is currently not much more than a large hill located between modern Hnaberd and Verin Dvin, Armenia. Systematic excavations at Dvin that have proceeded since 1937 have produced an abundance of materials, which have shed light into the Armenian culture of the 5th to the 13th centuries.

    Lake Sevan is the largest body of water in Armenia and the Caucasus region. It is one of the largest freshwater high-altitude lakes in Eurasia. The lake is situated in Gegharkunik Province, at an altitude of 1,900 m above sea level. The total surface area of its basin is about 5,000 km2 , which makes up ​1⁄6 of Armenia's territory. The lake itself is 1,242 km2 , and the volume is 32.8 km3 . It is fed by 28 rivers and streams. Only 10% of the incoming water is drained by the Hrazdan River, while the remaining 90% evaporates.     The Temple of Garni is the only standing Greco-Roman colonnaded building in Armenia and the former Soviet Union. An Ionic temple located in the village of Garni, Armenia, it is the best-known structure and symbol of pre-Christian Armenia. The structure was probably built by king Tiridates I in the first century AD as a temple to the sun god Mihr. After Armenia's conversion to Christianity in the early fourth century, it was converted into a royal summer house of Khosrovidukht, the sister of Tiridates III. According to some scholars it was not a temple but a tomb and thus survived the universal destruction of pagan structures. It collapsed in a 1679 earthquake.     Geghard is a medieval monastery in the Kotayk province of Armenia, being partially carved out of the adjacent mountain, surrounded by cliffs. It is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. While the main chapel was built in 1215, the monastery complex was founded in the 4th century by Gregory the Illuminator at the site of a sacred spring inside a cave. Yerevan, the Armenia’s capital, claims to have the most brandy factories per capita of any city in the world. Driving toward downtown from the airport, visitors are greeted by two behemoth buildings on either side of the Hrazdan River: The Ararat Brandy Factory on the left, and the Yerevan Noy Wine Brandy Vodka Factory on the right.

Of all Armenia's alcoholic drinks, the Armenian brandy is truly one of the best brandies in the world. Armenian brandy won its first Grand Prix gold medal in France in 1904, which has been followed by 51 gold, 21 silver and 3 bronze medals over the years.

Armenian brandy is rated using stars, each depicting the number of years it has been fermented, the youngest being three years. After six years, the brandy is given special names to denote its age and quality.
