Why visit Majahuitas Beach South of Puerto Vallarta Jalisco Mexico
Majahuitas is a beautiful little beach in Cabo Corrientes south of Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco, Mexico. It has beautiful waters and clear golden sands, bordered by palm trees and the green jungle of the region. It's what one would consider the perfect beach when imagining a place to go relax in the sun, enjoy the sand and the warm and clean waters of the Bay of Banderas. If you are looking for one of the best beaches in Puerto Vallarta, although it is in the next municipality, it is really worth considering it.
What's attractive and why go
It is a very quiet beach, free from the hustle and bustle of the beaches near downtown Puerto Vallarta, there are no vendors, no music rumbling in the bars or restaurants, no crowds of people and the noise that entails. Here, the noisiest things are the green-emerald waves that break gently on the clear, golden sands of the beach. The wind rocks the palm trees and shakes the fronds, that could be considered another constant noise in this sub-tropical beach :-) So if you are a little bit anti-crowds, this is the place for you.
Where Majahuitas Beach Located (Map)?
It is in the southern area of the Bay of Banderas, is one of the many beautiful beaches of the municipality of Cabo Corrientes, beaches that are located south-west of Boca de Tomatlan, the last beach and town in the municipality of Puerto Vallarta that can be reached by land in a vehicle. It is located about 15-20 minutes from Boca and between the beaches of Quimixto and Yelapa. To locate it on a map, use this link:
How to get to Majahuitas Jalisco
It can only be reached by sea, as we mentioned the road continues to the south past Boca de Tomatlan, but no longer edges along the bay and these beaches of Cabo Corrientes are isolated and, therefore, more virgin, clean and quiet too. We recommend you first travel to to Boca by taxi, Uber or one of the many local buses that travel to Mismaloya or Boca itself, also the buses that travel to El Tuito, which is farther south, will do. It's about 20 minutes fromPuerto Vallarta's Romantic Zone. Once in Boca, walk to the village boardwalk (malecon) on the banks of the Horcones River and negotiate a trip with the local water taxis (pangas). If there is any extra waiting time, you can have a beer or juice by the sea enjoying the beautiful beach and the small protected bay. The rest of the trip you will do by sea, traveling along the edge of the jungle and the beaches by sea, you go by Colomitos, Las Animas Beach, Las Caletas, and Quimixto before you reach Majahuitas Beach, Cabo Corrientes. Vallarta Adventures, the largest tour operator in the area, offers tours to the site and has facilities there at Majahuitas, if you want to spend a more pleasant time, with service, drinks, activities and bathroom, it may be a good option to go with them. We can guide you and get the best prices, send us a message at tours@puertovallarta.net
What to do there
At Playa Majahuitas Beach Jalisco, there are few options and we recommend that you bring your own snorkeling equipment to enjoy one of the main attractions of the place, at both ends there are rocky outcrops that house fish and various marine species that you will enjoy observing. The sea invites you to swim and splash around and is very pleasant. The sand is a little coarse, so it is not advisable to let yourself be dragged by the water, some rubber shoes will help walk along the shore in a more pleasant way. The light color of the sand helps it not get too hot, which is good when it comes to walking and sunbathing. The obvious options are also to relax and sunbathe, but bring food and drink because there are no services on the spot. Also, do not plan to spend all day in the place because I did not see public toilets, I suppose Vallarta Adventures would lend you its own, but I have not consulted, be advised.
Is there where to stay in Playa Majahuitas Mexico?
Until February 2018, the obvious place was Majahuitas Resort Cabo Corrientes, right on the northern side of the beach and the hill, but the Chacala indigenous community did not renew the concession and now there is nowhere to stay in Playa Majahuitas, that I know of at least. Vallarta Adventures does not offer accommodation or camping of any kind in the place, for the time being. So the closest thing would be something in Yelapa. Why visit Boca de Tomatlan south of Puerto Vallarta Jalisco Mexico
Boca de Tomatlan is a fishing village 17 kilometers south of Puerto Vallarta (about 15-20 minutes by car, 20-25 minutes by bus). It offers a very nice beach, good rustic restaurants, several activities and a starting point to visit the many beaches south of the bay. Boca de Tomatlán is the last town and beach before the road heads inland on its route to the areas of Cabo Corrientes to the south and Barra de Navidad. The immediate towns to the south are Las Juntas and Los Veranos and El Tuito which is 29 km from Boca (the botanical garden is between Las Juntas and El Tuito).
Among the nearby activities that you can enjoy are the Botanical Garden of Puerto Vallarta with one of the best restaurants in the bay: Hacienda de Oro. Walk to Playa Colomitos through the jungle. Parasailing, walks to nearby beaches, by land for adventurers to Las Animas, for others by boat (water taxi / panga) to Colomitos, Quimixto, Majahuitas, Yelapa, Chimo, Pizota and others. Visit, snorkel, dive and SUP (Stand-up Paddle) to Los Arcos. There are palapas with small rustic restaurants at the edge of the beach that open from 10 in the morning until, more or less, at 6:00 pm, where you can enjoy a cold beer and a tasty fish or seafood dish.
It is on the way to the Botanical Gardens of Vallarta, just 5 kilometers beyond the town of Mismaloya, and is the most popular embarkation and arrival bay for water taxis that take locals and visitors to the beautiful and isolated beaches of the southern part of the city. Bay of Banderas, beaches like Colomitos, Las Animas, Quimixto, Majahuitas and Yelapa. Exit schedules of the pangas here.
(Boca de Tomatlan should not be confused with Boca de Tomates, which is north of the PV Airport).
Boca de Tomatlán empties into the Horcones River, which also passes through the grounds of the Botanical Garden. At present, thanks to the Boca de Tomatlan boardwalk and the rocky edge that was established at the end of the river, the course is much better controlled and the boatmen and fishermen have a better space to leave their boats in shelter. The beach itself is also very popular and the waters of the bay are extremely quiet (not for nothing is used as a port of departure), so if you are a fan of marine swimming, this is the place to visit, we just recommend that you keep away from the area of the pangas.
You can get to Boca de Tomatlan by car, water taxi, taxi or bus. Water taxis (pangas) can be obtained in the Marina or the pier of Playa Los Muertos. The local buses that go to Boca leave every day from early around 6:30 AM and at regular intervals until around 11:00 PM, at the corner of Basilio Badillo and Constitución in Viejo Vallarta (Romantic Zone), the same place and the same buses that go to Mismaloya.
Boca is an authentic fishing village, 10 miles south of the Plaza de Armas of Puerto Vallarta, where the Horcones River empties into a beautiful emerald green bay, surrounded by jungle-covered hills. Enjoy its beaches of fine and clear sand, the gentle waves of the ocean, good food and friendly people.

Our purpose in creating Kinetic Kennons is to share our stories of travels, adventures, and funny mishaps and to inspire others to design a life full of exploration. Rant of the day:
Today we visited the Vallarta Botanical Gardens!
Thanks for coming along our daily adventure with us! Thankfully, we did not ever encounter any jaguars, even on “Jaguar Trail”. We had an awesome time exploring the gardens and would highly recommend this getaway for anyone-visitors and expats alike! The gardens are situated deep into the mountains and creates a calm, serene atmosphere to enjoy. Bonus: there are tons of hummingbirds (that will drink for your hand!), butterflies, and other cute garden creatures that we don’t typically see in the heart of PV. Have you visited the Botanical Gardens before? What was your favorite thing there?

Where is Colomitos? Check Out Wonderful Colomitos Beach in Puerto Vallarta
Sometimes great things come in small packages, that certainly is the case of Colomitos Beach (Playa Colomitos), a small colorful and beautiful beach just south of Boca de Tomatlan, very close to Puerto Vallarta in the South Zone.
It's actually part of what is called Cabo Corrientes, another municipality in Jalisco, México, the same state as Vallarta, but that really doesn't change anything. But where is Colomitos Beach? Continue reading...
How to get to Colomitos Beach: There are two main options to get there, one is taking a bus (the ones marked as Boca or the ones that go all the way to El Tuito) from the romantic zone on the corner of Basilio Badillo and Constitución streets to Boca de Tomatlan and then walking through the jungle along an easy to find path (not for out of shape people) 30-40 minutes to the beach, another is taking a water taxi (panga) from Boca de Tomatlan to Colomitos beach, something that will cost you some 5 dollars (each way). I enjoyed the walk through the jungle, but take it at a leisurely pace, especially in the hot season and please take a big bottle of water.
Playa Colomitos mostly offers aesthetic pleasure, there's not much to do there other than bask in the calm crystal-clear emerald waters, or enjoy the sun on the beach while listening to the calm waves lap the sandy beach. There are no services, no activities, nothing else to do, but even so, it's certainly worth a visit.
You can also combine the trip to Colomitos Puerto Vallarta, continuing along the path along the edge of the sea to Caballo Beach and Las Ánimas Beach, but that is only for the brave and fit, plus do take at least 2 to 3 liters of water along, you WILL need it.
I would recommend bringing some food and drink along to Colomitos Jalisco, also sunblock, maybe snorkeling gear too. If you walk during the dry season (up until June) the jungle won't protect you much, so do cover yourself in sun cream from time to time.
If you are wondering, there is nowhere to stay over on this beach, camping is not allowed.
A combined visit of Boca de Tomatlan and Colomitos Beach Cabo Corrientes is a great day trip and well worth your time and effort.

Playa Colomitos Boca de Tomatlan if you want to go to this beach from Boca, you need to catch a water taxi going to Playa Colomitos, the trip itself it some 5-10 minutes long and will cost you less than 5 dollars, I think it's closer to 3.

The medium grain sand beach is narrow (25 meters - 77ft wide) and 600m (1900ft) long, mostly with soft waves, lined by local seafood and Mexican food eateries where you'll find simple, rustic, but tasty local dishes. The crystal clear clean waters are popular with snorkelers and scuba divers.
Another popular activity when you visit Quimixto is to go to the waterfall, it's a nice walk, but might be a bit too much for children and adults that are not in good shape, for them there is the option of going on horseback.
