Illinois Tourist Attractions, Chicago, Illinois Travel Guide | Top 43 Places To Visit in Illinois
Illinois is a state in the Midwestern area of the United States. It is the sixth most crowded state and 25th biggest state as far as land zone, and is regularly noted as a microcosm of the whole country. With Chicago in the upper east, little modern urban communities and incredible agrarian profitability in focal and northern Illinois, and characteristic assets like coal, timber, and oil in the south, Illinois has a differing financial base and is a noteworthy transportation center point. The Port of Chicago interfaces the state to other worldwide ports from the Great Lakes, by means of the Saint Lawrence Seaway, to the Atlantic Ocean, and the Great Lakes to the Mississippi River, by means of the Illinois Waterway.

Shopping centres:
Find interesting architecture and a huge merchandise selection at Macy's (formerly Marshall Field's, the original store) on State Street. But no visit would be complete without a shopping trip on the Magnificent Mile (North Michigan Avenue). The street, crowded with upscale malls (Water Tower Place, 900 North Michigan Avenue, The Shops at North Bridge), fashionable boutiques and big name stores such as Bloomingdale's, Macy's, Saks Fifth Avenue, Neiman Marcus and Nordstroms, is also a people-watching paradise.
For bargains, shop Filene's Basement, 1 North State or 830 Michigan, Mark Shale Outlet, 2593 Elston, or the Gap outlet, 2778 North Milwaukee, for clothes, Jewelers Row, 5 South Wabash, for discounted baubles and Crate and Barrel Outlet, 850 West North Avenue, for housewares.
Opening hours:
Except for special sales or the holiday season, malls and regular stores hours are usually Mon-Sat 1000-2100 and Sun 1100-1800. North Side neighbourhood stores that cater to young people often open later. Chicago sales taxes are 10.25%, aside from food (2%) and pharmaceuticals (0%).
Souvenirs:
Look out for Wrigley Field and other sports-related memorabilia and Al Capone themed souvenirs, particularly clothes and sportswear. Music CDs, such as jazz and blues, are also popular. As for food, pick up some Italian Beef, deep dish/stuffed pizza, Garret's Popcorn and Chicago-style hot dogs.

North Avenue Beach, Chicago - The world's best urban beaches
The North Avenue Beach, located at 1600 north, is considered by many to be Chicago's premier beach. It has the largest lifeguard staff and is home to the most developed beachhouse. Technically running from North Avenue to Diversey Harbor in the Lincoln Park neighborhood, North Avenue Beach is characterized by its piers which hold the sand in place and create a scalloped shoreline, terminating in a Cape Cod-like hook. The beach hosts international volleyball tournaments as well as millions of sun worshippers every year. Chicago Park District lines the beach with poles for individuals and leagues to hang volleyball nets. These nets and this portion of the lakefront bike/running/blading path attract large numbers of people on weekends and weeknights. North Avenue is also center stage for the Chicago Air & Water Show, which draws over a million people a day from Ohio to Diversey along the lakefront. North Avenue Beach is the site of the annual AVP Chicago Open.
The beach house resembles an ocean liner and contains bike and sports equipment rental, a bar and restaurant (Castaways), concession stand, a lifeguard station, and restrooms. The beach features a unique and popular beach house that contains 22,000 square feet of space that features something for everyone and is permanently docked along this popular beach. This sleek, ocean liner-inspired building, decked out in a crisp blue and white, boasts one of the best views in the city. The beach house has upper decks and portholes for looking at the magnificent horizon or the multitudes of bikers, runners, walkers and rollerbladers streaming down the lakefront trail.
