Glenmore & Cairngorm Caravan Trip Trip October 2017
One of our favourite winter caravanning is Glenmore by Aviemore at the foot of the Cairngorm Mountain Range.
We headed up in late October and had a great week of adventure in the area of which there is loads to do.
We were also joined by our good friends the Stewarts.

Aviemore is a town in the Cairngorms National Park, in the Scottish Highlands. It’s known for its close proximity to the secluded lochs, ancient forest, mountain trails and ski runs of the surrounding parkland. Near town, the funicular at the CairnGorm Mountain resort has panoramic views of the Cairngorms mountain range. Southwest, Highland Wildlife Park’s inhabitants include Scottish wildcats and capercaillie birds.
Aviemore is a town and tourist resort, situated within the Cairngorms National Park in the Highlands of Scotland. It is in the Badenoch and Strathspey committee area, within the Highland council area. The town is popular for skiing and other winter sports, and for hill-walking in the Cairngorm Mountains. There are excellent views of the Cairngorms from various places within the town, especially from the railway station. The Aviemore stone circle is located within a residential neighbourhood of the town.
Aviemore lies on the B9152 (the old A9 road since the main road from Inverness to Perth was rebuilt further west in 1980). Aviemore railway station is on the Highland Main Line and Aviemore is also the southern terminus of the Strathspey Railway, a heritage railway.
The Cairngorm Mountain Railway, which opened in 2001, is the highest railway in the United Kingdom. The two-kilometre long funicular ascends the northern slopes of Cairn Gorm, the United Kingdom's sixth-highest mountain, serving the Cairngorm Mountain ski resort. The route and ski area are located within the Cairngorms National Park, the largest National Nature Reserve in Britain, located near Aviemore in the Highland council area of Scotland.

Loch Morlich and Glenmore Forest Park in Snow (Winter in Aviemore Cairngorms)
Loch Morlich and Glenmore Forest Park in Snow and Winter in Aviemore and the Cairngorms during a road trip through the Scottish Highlands (January 2017) as here Aviemore and the surrounding Cairngorms are just beautiful with snow topped pine trees, frozen lakes, and serene walks in thick snow. But Loch Morlich was definitely the highlight here, and while we took a drive to the base station of the Mountain Railway, a busy skiing destination, we otherwise decided against both the train journey, although cross-country skiing looked fun in the lakeside forests. My biggest regret on this road trip was not bringing a sleigh.

Welcome to Alberta, Canada!
From boreal forest to vast prairies and high mountain peaks, Alberta is an incredible province to explore. This is Canada's fourth-most populous province and one of only two Canadian provinces that are land-locked. This is also our home province and it was very fun to be able to experience Alberta as part of the Road to 150 travel series.
We rode a gondola to the top of a mountain, walked on a glacier, hiked to various waterfalls, canoed a glacier-fed lake, had fun at the second largest indoor waterpark in the world, hiked into a canyon, learned about dinosaurs, rode on a steam train, and learned about Canada's star music talent. We also went up into the iconic Calgary tower, rode the worlds largest indoor triple loop rollercoaster, and drove the world-famous Icefields Parkway. We packed a lot of adventures into our short visit and can't wait to explore the province deeper.

We explored Alberta from September 28 - October 11, 2017.
Canada's Road to 150 is a 150-day Canada-wide multi-media road trip celebrating Canada's 150th birthday by exploring the uniqueness of this country provincially and collectively while answering the question; What makes Canada special?
We will drive to and through every driveable province and territory, showcasing Canada's natural beauty and regional attractions while interviewing Canadians of all cultures and backgrounds, including local celebrities, immigrants, refugees, and everyday rural and urban Canadians. Our aim is to dig deep into what makes Canada such an incredibly inspiring country while showing off the best of Canada's tourism to Canadians and to the world.
