America Travel part 1 - Nebraska - YouTube
America is amazing in it's diversity. This is video 1 of our travels through the USA filmed by Cindy in 3D which I sampled down to 2D. Nebraska is in the news now days as farmers reject or support the proposed Keystone XL pipeline to carry Canadian tarsands oil to the Gulf for refining.
It was surprising that we saw pronghorn antelope and some very large mule deer bucks on our drive through here.

Driving from Omaha, NE to Kansas City, MO via I29
Last night in Omaha was fun; Saw a great show, and discovered a new Gretna. But, I must keep moving on. Today we'll hit Missouri by going through Kansas City, and then move on to Kansas going through Lawrence, Topeka, and Alma before settling for the night in Salina, Kansas.
My Sony HXR-NX100 rode shotgun on a tripod shooting at 4 fps. The tripod was held in place using bungee cords giving it I nice smooth feel, even on bumpy roads. I also used this same camera to shoot various scenes around the country, and to interview folks.

Car Camera - I-80 - Gretna Interchange to East Omaha, NE . 2014 ( 州間高速道路80号線 )
Today we finally journey into Omaha, Nebraska, U.S.A. along Interstate 80 from the Gretna (U.S. Highway 6/Nebraska Hwy. 31) to the Downtown (I-480 East/U.S. Hwy. 75) interchanges.
One thing I will say about Omaha is that it takes only minutes to zoom from one side of the city to the other since Omaha has Interstates and freeways (unlike Lincoln). The downside to traveling in Omaha this way is that the traffic is sometimes the worst in the nation, for some odd reason, during rush periods. Still, a 10 lane interstate is something to be awed by :p ...
The one thing I don't get while going through Omaha are some of the Interstate signs. It seems like the Nebraska Department of Roads can not make up their minds. Example: Interstates 680 and 480... normally highway directions are decided by which way the highway is routed and it's number (odd or even). I-80 East and West are good examples...
...but 680 and 480, for some reason - some of the signs list the Interstate direction by the compass direction (like 680 North) while instead a few others list it the correct way (480 East). Right after merging onto I-480 East at the end of this video, we can see that the reassurance sign on the side of the road and the overhead sign contradict each other (one says north while the other says east). Now which way is it???
Since both Interstates have an eastern and western terminus on I-80, then the signs should read I-680 East/West and I-480 East/West. Just my two cents ;p .....
Anyways, off the soap box now... please enjoy :) !

Car Camera - Lincoln, NE - I-80: Beatrice to Waverly Interchanges . 2013 ( 州間高速道路80号線 )
This trip takes us on the majority of Interstate through Lincoln, Nebraska, U.S.A. In recent years, the city has expanded towards and somewhat around the Interstate, but for the most part I-80 goes around it. The Interstate is in it's last phase of being expanded to six lanes from Lincoln to Omaha - Lincoln is the last portion that needs to be completed... something like a 10+ year project! Yikes!!!
Back when they first began building the Interstate in the late 50's, I-80 was originally planned to skirt by downtown Lincoln following West O Street and what eventually became Interstate 180. Some people didn't like the idea of a busy interstate going through & ruining the big town feel that had Lincoln at that time, so instead I-80 was diverted NW toward the airport (I-180 was built in it's place to get to Downtown). I tell you, we'd love to have it now... it takes forever sometimes to get around the city (not complaining, though~)!
The speed of I-80 in the rural areas of Nebraska is normally 75mph (121kph). Please enjoy!
Interesting fact: I-80 is one of the few major east-west Interstate corridors in the U.S. Beginning next to Manhattan Island on the east, going through (or by) a number of major cities along it's path (including Chicago, Salt Lake City, Des Moines, the Quad Cities, Toledo, Cleveland, Sacramento, Omaha and Oakland) and ending across the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge in San Francisco on the west.
This is a continuation of the video Car Camera - Lincoln, NE - U.S. 77: Rosa Parks Way to the West I-80 I/c(s) . 2014 for U.S. Hwy. 77 (beginning at 1:17 in this video), which can be seen here:
