List of cities and towns in Iceland
This is a list of cities and towns in Iceland. Some of Iceland’s larger cities and towns are also self-contained municipalities whose geography and populations are therefore equal. However, most of Iceland’s municipalities, which are semi-autonomous administrative zones, contain several disparate towns or cities, each of whose population contributes to that of its respective municipality.
In addition to Iceland's many independent towns, this article includes cities and towns whose municipalities consist of one, self-contained city of the same name, such as Hafnarfjörður and Akranes. Municipalities that are not also cities or towns, such as Árborg, are not included here, but their constituent towns and cities are. For Árborg, these include the towns of Selfoss, Eyrarbakki, and Stokkseyri.
For more information on the administrative divisions of Iceland, refer to the “Divisions” section of the Iceland infobox on this page.

L'Austral Iceland Cruise Day 4: A Great Day on Grimsey Island
Grimsey Island is the northernmost inhabited (pop: 100) island of Iceland and this day had to be, arguably, the best cruise day. Sunshine, the Arctic Circle crosses Grimsey and passengers stood on the circle to have photos taken, and a gazillion Puffins. Puffins are a member of the Penguin family - it's no wonder Sven in Happy Feet 2 was mistaken as an odd penguin - and even I finally got my fill of Puffins.
If that wasn't enough, the personable captain of L'Austral lowered the zodiacs for a ride along the cliffs on a smooth-as-glass sea. It was a day I'll always treasure.
Iceland: 2008: North and West (4/5)
After Husavik, we made a stop at Dettifoss. That evening, I visited the fumeroles near Lake Myvatn. The next day we headed to Goðafoss then Akureyri. That evening we took a flight to the island of Grímsey where we could stand on the Artic Circle. Looking south the the mountains of Iceland rising out of the water was one of the most awe-inspiring sights ever. The next day, we headed southwest to Eiríksstaðir and Snæfellsnes (the setting for Journey to the Center of the Earth) where we stayed at Arnarstapi.
Akureyri, Iceland
Recorded September 5, 2008.
Akureyri is a town in the northern part of Iceland. It is the second largest urban area after the Greater Reykjavík area. The town has a total population of 17,304. Akureyri is positioned on the west side of the inland end of the fjord Eyjafjörður. It is surrounded by mountains, the highest being Súlur at 3980 feet and Hlíðarfjall at 3661 feet.
This video begins as we sail into Akureyri on the Sea Princess. Next we get a nice view of a northern bottlenose whale playing with her calf in the harbour. That is followed by a walk through the downtown area. The video concludes back on board the Sea Princess as we sail away from Akureyri.

Iceland Gay Tour
Join us on this spectacular gay group tour to Iceland! Superimposed on the rugged terrain of Iceland is a resilient and independent culture, fashioned over the years by the descendants of farmers and warriors who fled the tyranny of mediaeval Scandinavia. In the midst of a landscape both terrifyingly harsh and sublimely beautiful, one finds friendly, hospitable people with a very distinct culture and unique sense of humour.
Iceland is a hot (so to speak), up-and-coming destination for those who crave a bit of adventure, spectacular sights, unique cultures, and cuisines. It's also one of the safest and healthiest places on Earth - they don't even have mosquitos!
