Gryfino [ɡrɨˈfʲinɔ] is a town in Pomerania, northwestern Poland with 22,500 inhabitants . It is also the capital of Gryfino County in West Pomeranian Voivodeship , previously in Szczecin Voivodeship . The town is located on the Odra Wschodnia , the eastern branch of the Oder river, about 20 kilometres south of the Pomeranian capital Szczecin . The western branch of the Oder, 2 km away from the town center, has marked the border with Germany since 1945. There is a straight road link between Gryfino and the German town of Mescherin across the two rivers.

    The Crooked Forest , is a grove of oddly-shaped pine trees located outside Nowe Czarnowo near the town of Gryfino, West Pomerania, Poland. This grove of approximately 100 pines was planted around 1930, when its location was still within the German province of Pomerania. Each pine tree bends sharply to the North just above ground level, then curves back upright after a sideways excursion of three to nine feet . It is generally believed that some form of human tool or technique was used to make the trees grow this way, but the method and motive are not currently known. It has been speculated that the trees may have been deformed to create naturally curved timber for use in furniture or boat building.
