My Ecuador Trip- Quito Old Town, Equator and the Simple Life in a Small Village
Tara goes to South America for the first time and experiences some strange things on the equator! She also visits her cousin living in a tiny village. Tara learns how to milk a cow, feed animals on a farm, pick plants and fruit, and visits the village school to give the kids some gifts. Four days without a phone, internet, car, TV and hot water! It was an amazing experience!

Trip to Ecuador with Patricio Fernández tour guide - Ecuador & Galapagos Islands tourism
Travel Videos HD, World Travel Guide
Ecuador is a country in Northwestern South America, with a Pacific Ocean coastline, lying on the Equator between Colombia, to the northeast, and Peru, to the south and east.
Cotopaxi is the world's highest active volcano. Many cities and sites in Ecuador are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Such cities and best known places are the Galapagos Islands, and the city of Cuenca.
Ecuador is the most biodiverse country in the world. Ecuador has over one hundred different types of hummingbirds and thousands of orchid varieties. Cuyabeno Wild Life Reserve, Mindo and San Luis de Pambil are all good places to see many types of flora and fauna. The Galapagos Islands are justly famed for their wildlife.
The Cuyabeno Wild Life Reserve is probably the best place to see the Amazon Rainforest in Ecuador, even though there are other national parks which are also interesting (such as the Yasuni National Park). It's a place of high biodiversity and nature lovers should feel in paradise. That's a good way to discover the indigenous communities of Ecuador and to eventually meet a local shaman. It's necessary to get to Lago Agrio to reach the reserve. Private transportation is made possible by the local accommodation, which is provided by eco-lodges.
The beaches in Ecuador are amazing, including: Salinas, Bahia de Caraquez, Manta, Crucita, San Jacinto, and San Clemente. They offer very inexpensive hotel accommodations, great food and friendly people. But there are also very upmarket establishments as well.

Ecuador's luxury Tren Crucero, June 2014
This video is aimed at rail enthusiasts and shows railway aspects of the 4 day, 3 night Tren Crucero (train cruise) from Quito to Guayaquil, Ecuador. The journey was one of the best travel experiences we have ever had. The train is brand new. The coaches are very comfortable, the service impeccable, the routing is through amazing vistas, viewing Ecuador's volcanoes, beautiful small towns, children waving excitedly as you go by, hard working people in traditional dress tending the fields, dogs racing after the train, cows, pigs, and llamas grazing near the tracks. All are things you do not see on the regular tourist trail. You do not sleep on the train but in lovely haciendas, each different and offering quaint rooms with baths and good food. Lunch is at other haciendas or catered by the villages and places that you pass. All food and most drinks are included in the price. The tour guides were knowledgeable about the train, people, and countryside. They were friendly, personable, switching from Spanish to English easily, and helpful. At two places the diesel locomotives are switched for different restored steam locomotives, which makes the whole train cruise even more special. We had a great holiday in Ecuador and met an interesting group of international visitors. Do not miss Tren Ecuador! We travelled to Ecuador with Sunvil Traveller in the UK. sunvil.co.uk
Please pass on this link. Further videos will be posted showing more of the scenery and excursions on the Tren Crucero, plus Mashpi Lodge in the Cloud Forest.

Day8 (Salcedo Market) - entering the food section 10 Day Ecuador & Amazon Adventure (May 2014)
SALCEDO = Puerta del Oriente Ecuatoriano
By 10:30am on Thursday morning (May 29, 2014), we found ourselves at the heart of the Cotopaxi province of Ecuador where it lies the sleepy little town of SALCEDO.
Our Gate1 group stopped here to visit the local, colorful indigenous market!
As we entered the Salcedo Market that Thursday morning, we had mixed feelings: appreciation for the local crafts and dirty cheap prices of the fresh fruits (i.e. colleagues paid less than $USD 1.00 for a whole bag of bananas!) but also intrigued to see pets in cages and signs of animal cruelty... minimal if any sanitation accommodations... hectic parking facilities...
On the positive side, the lively sight of barter trade at the market was inspiring!
This old-style commerce with its weird jumble of sights, sounds and smells often proves to be exactly the sort of adventure many visitors are looking for.
The town itself is small and somewhat unremarkable, but the people seemed friendly and hospitable.
TIP: Try the local ice-cream for which the town has begun to gain a world-wide reputation (helados de Salcedo -- a layered popsicle of multiple flavors including naranjilla, mora, taxo etc.). Delicious and refreshing!!!
“Salcedo's ice-cream” was initially known as “nuns' ice-cream” because it was created by the Nun Rosa María Durán in 1950, being marketed from the Convent.
*** Note that The Salcedo Indigenous Food & Animals Market moved temporary from el barrio Económico Augusto Dávalos to el barrio Anchiliví – San Marcos where over 150 merchants from Cotopaxi and Tungurahua sell a variety of products.
Some of the street food that you can SAMPLE at this colorful local market: Tripa Mishki (grilled gut), Choclo mote (corn), Morcilla (sweet hot dog), huevitos chilenos, firtada hornado, Llapingachos (fried mashed potatoes) and so many more!

In Cuenca, where we are staying, Carnaval started few days earlier; Saturday and Sunday was the peak. Now we are wondering where to go to eat since everything is closed?!
