Guatiza is a village in the municipality of Teguise in the northeastern part of the island of Lanzarote in the Las Palmas province in the Canary Islands. Its population was 812 in 2013.Guatiza is located 2 km from the east coast of Lanzarote, 8 km east of the town Teguise and 14 km northeast of the island capital Arrecife. Guatiza is known for its cactus garden, created by César Manrique. It covers 5,000 m² and has over 1,400 types of cactus and over 1,000 different species from America, Madagascar and the Canary Islands. The Jardín de Cactus is a cactus garden on the island of Lanzarote in the Canary Islands. It is situated in the village of Guatiza, in a former quarry where volcanic sand was extracted to spread on cultivated areas to retain moisture. Prickly pears are grown in the area for the production of cochineal.The cactus garden was created in 1991, the last project of César Manrique. The botanist Estanislao González Ferrer was responsible for the selection and planting of the specimens. The garden now has 4,500 examples of 450 species of cactus and succulents from North and South America, Madagascar, and other desert and arid areas. The Empire ships were a series of ships in the service of the British Government. Their names were all prefixed with Empire. Jameos del Agua truly reflects the artists attraction to multifunctional buildings and water. It's a system of natural underwater cavities and caves where Monrique created an underwater restaurant and concert hall. The cave system and the salty lake in it are linked to the sea so we can see the flux and reflux in it. However, that's not what it's famous for but for its unique acoustics which make it ideal for holding special concerts. On the surface a specially formed swimming pool planted around with tropical plants has been created. Arrecife, the capital city is a commercial center that has very little to attract tourists. Its sights are confined to a fortress and a church named after the patron saints of the city. But the coastal promenade planted with palm trees is also alluring. The Castillo de San Gabrielle Fortress was built on a little island and can be reached via long suspension bridge.
