Whitby Weekend Hiking North Yorkshire England UK
We arrived at our Whitby hotel on the Friday afternoon for our weekend hiking trip.
The hiking on Saturday was a 10 mile circular route with the option of returning by train after 5 miles. On the morning we drove a short distance to Goathland, which was made famous as the village of Aidensfield in the TV programme, Heartbeat. We then hiked 5 miles to the lovely town of Grosmont. The afternoon hiking was another 5 miles back to Whitby.
The hiking on Sunday was a 10 mile figure of eight route. We drove to the lovely fishing village of Robin Hoods Bay. The morning hiking was about a 6 mile circular route with great views of the coast. We returned to Robin Hoods Bay for lunch and for a little exploration. After lunch we had the choice of a shorter circular hike of about 4 miles in the opposite direction along a disused railway before returning along a coastal footpath.
The final day hiking on Monday was a 5 mile circular route. We drove inland to the moors and the famous Hole of Horcum, which is a huge natural hollow 400ft deep.

Looking for a walking route in the United Kingdom (UK)? Rich Walking creates quality video slideshows that are freely viewable on YouTube. I have been creating these videos since 2009.
Every walking video is produced after experiencing the walk myself. I always welcome comments, feedback & suggestions and you can engage with me on social media.
I provide two main types of video slideshow for various locations within the UK, with background music which is slightly upbeat and relaxing:
1 - Day Walking Routes - These show you mainly the route terrain you will experience on the walk.

2 - Day Walk Scenery - These show you just the scenery you will see on the walk.

Long distance walk: Grassington to Robin Hood's Bay - 100 miles over 7 days
The video records the Grassington to East Coast Walk over 7 days in September 2012, through sun and rain and a bit of wind thrown in for good measure
Blog of the walk
The Grassington to East Coast Walk follows a route over the moors and the wild eastern edge of the Yorkshire Dales to the lovely town of Masham. The walk then crosses the green and lush Vale of Mowbray to climb the high ridge of the Cleveland Hills. There is fine open country between the villages of Hawnby, Hutton-le-Hole, and Levisham, and then a gentle stroll through the Hole of Horcum before embarking across the wild expanse of Fylingdales Moor all the way to the rugged coast above the village of Robin Hoods Bay.
Details of the book of the walk can be found here
