Hadrian's Wall the original border between Britannia (England) and Caledonia (Scotland)
Hadrian's Wall the original border between what is now known as England and Scotland.
Hadrian's Wall is listed on the UNESCO (The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) World Heritage Site for having outstanding universal value.
England side of the wall at the time was referred to as Provincia Britannia now referred to as Roman Britain
Scotland side of the wall at the time was referred to as Caledonia, inhabited group of indigenous Celtic tribes called the Caledonians / Picts
In AD 122 Emperor Hadrian ordered the construction of a wall across northern England to hold back the advancing Barbarians. Despite the depredations of the centuries, Hadrian's Wall remains the largest ancient monument in northern Europe.
The current English / Scottish border (Anglo / Scottish border) was legally established in 1237, by the Treaty of York between England and Scotland. It is one of the oldest extant borders in the world.

Let's Visit Hadrian's Wall
Hadrian's Wall is a wall built by the Romans (during the reign of Emperor Hadrian) as the northern border of the Roman Empire. I check out two historic Roman forts: Vindolanda and Housesteads Fort. At the latter, I also get to visit the wall itself.

Places to see in ( Amble - UK )
Amble is a town, civil parish and seaport on the North Sea coast of Northumberland, England. It lies at the mouth of the River Coquet, and the nearby Coquet Island is visible from its beaches and harbour. The civil parish is called Amble by the Sea .
Amble grew in the nineteenth century as collieries were opened; and the newly built railway links to the Northumberland coalfields made the town a centre for the sea transport and export of coal. Prior to the development of the harbour, the town was little more than a hamlet, according to the architectural guides originally compiled by Nikolaus Pevsner. The principal local mineworkings were those at Broomhill and at Radcliffe. The harbour at Amble was the smallest of those that served the coalfields of Northumberland and Durham. It was originally under the control of the Dukes of Northumberland until, in 1837, a port authority – the Warkworth Harbour Commission – was created to supervise improvements.
The Pevsner guide of 1992 says that Today Amble is a not unpleasant small town but has few buildings of distinction. Of those, he records the church of St Cuthbert, which was originally constructed in 1870 and expanded in 1929, and its associated 1876-built vicarage. In addition, he notes some early Victorian terraces on Queen Street and North Street.
Amble is situated on the A1068 that runs along the north-eastern coastline. This road is the old corn trading road which runs from Hexham in south west Northumberland through Cramlington, Bedlington, Guide Post, Ashington and Ellington. The road continues through more open coastal areas towards Amble and continues approximately 6 miles (10 km) to the north to Alnmouth, then winds on to Alnwick. Amble also lies near to the A1, providing easy access to nearest city Newcastle upon Tyne (30 miles (48 km) south), Gateshead (30 miles (48 km) south) and to the Scottish capital Edinburgh (80 miles (130 km) north).
Representations were made in 2006 for Amble to be included in the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which ends at the pier. The town is also adjacent to nature reserves operated by Northumberland Wildlife Trust at Cresswell, Druridge and Hauxley. The town has a caravan park, as well as guest houses and bed and breakfast accommodation for visitors. The Braid, which forms a part of the harbour, is now a greenfield site with a modern marina.

Time Travel with Pendon Museum’s Outstanding Model Railways.
If you like model railways, you’ll love “The Vale Scene”. In this video we visit Pendon Museum to see two model railways; firstly “The Madder Valley Railway” dating from the 1930’s when everything had to be scratch built, because the model railway industry as we know it today was in its infancy. Secondly we visit “The Vale Scene”, the most lifelike model I have ever seen, even those with no interest in model railways will be amazed by the skill of the model makers who are creating this stunningly realistic window to a time fondly remembered. The Museum was first opened to the public in 1954, developing since those early days into the wonderful miniature world that can be seen today, where visitors are transported back in time to an idyllic English country scene. There is plenty more to be seen at Pendon including a beautiful recreation of the “Sea Wall” between Dawlish and Teignmouth. A visit to Pendon is likely to be enjoyed by all family members, visit pendonmuseum.com for more details. Due to its age “The Madder Valley Railway” runs on a limited number of days during the year. “The Vale Scene” is still under construction, giving visitors a chance to see how it is made.

Two pebbles’ Coast to Coast Walk
This is the coast to coast walk in England, from St. Bees to Robin Hood’s Bay, covered 3 national parks. I did it in the fall of 2017.
The tradition is to pick a pebble from west coast, carry all the way to east coast, and deposit to North Sea. I picked two, called this journey “Two pebbles’ walking holiday”. “Walking holiday” is the British way to say “Hiking trip”.
Each year, about 10,000 people walked this route, most of them from west to east to avoid head wind. The route goes through a lot of pastures, gate has to be locked.
There are different routes. The lower one is 192 miles where most of the people walk, but I did all the high routes, through mountains, about 210 miles. I heard someone did it in 37 hours, I was not that fast, I finished in 12 days.
My longest day was 13 and half hours walking straight. I got up at 3am, left hotel at 5, 11 hours later, arrived at the most dangerous part, called striding edge. Two days before I was there, a man fell off the cliff and died. I was very carefully and make it to the hotel safe.
It was very beautiful, but dangerous: the route was poorly marked, and went through lot of boggy moorland. I even had no idea what bogs meant before this trip. You will see a lot in the video. Anyway, I survived, but do not recommend anyone to do it alone.
For 12 days, rain or shine, with these two pebbles, I crossed England on foot. I was a little emotional by the time to say goodbye to one of them. And I will carry the other one with me to the next adventure.
