Guatemala Travel Video Guide
Guatemala Travel Video Guide - Guatemala has a rich and distinctive culture from the long mix of elements from Spain and the native Maya people. This diverse history and the natural beauty of the land have created a destination rich in interesting and scenic sites.
Spanning a mountainous slice of Central America immediately south of Mexico, Guatemala is loaded with incredible natural, historical and cultural appeal. As the birthplace and heartland of the ancient Maya, the country is in many ways defined by the legacy of this early civilization. Their rainforest cities were abandoned centuries ago, but Maya people continue to thrive in the Guatemalan highlands, where traditions and religious rituals, mingled with Catholic practices, endure to form the richest and most distinctive indigenous identity in the hemisphere.
Guatemala today is very much a synthesis of Maya and colonial traditions, fused with the omnipresent influences of twenty-first century Latin and North American culture. Baroque churches dating back to the Spanish Conquest coexist with pagan temples that have been sites of worship for millennia. Highland street markets prosper alongside vast glitzy shopping malls, and pre-Columbian festival dances are performed by teenage hip-hop fans.

Antigua Guatemala Travel Guide - Step Into Europe in Central America | 90+ Countries with 3 Kids
Welcome to Antigua Guatemala, a colorful and elegant little town in Central America.
It is a small city that used to be a part of the Spanish colony. Famous for its well-preserved Baroque-influenced architecture, as well as colonial churches ruins, it used to be the capital city. After a hazardous earthquake in 1773, the Spanish crown decided to move it to a new place which is today known as Guatemala city. Some people refused to leave and what was left was renamed into “Antigua Guatemala” meaning Old Guatemala.
Today, it only has around 30 000 inhabitants, but it is a calm and cultural place with the buildings of vivid colors, clean cobblestone streets and breath-taking architecture, very popular for tourists. It is a really cute place which is also under UNESCO’s protection.
Walking around the city, there are views of the imposing Volcán de Agua to the south and the twin peaks of Volcán de Fuego and Acatenango to the west. There are many lined with farm-to-table restaurants, contemporary art galleries, and design studios. The whole town seems so sophisticated, but in such an unusual way, since it is a combination of vivid colors, Spanish culture, rich history, and Guatemalan spirit and surrounding nature.
With its booming coffee scene and boutique hotels, Antigua is quickly garnering appeal as one of the most alluring cities in Central America and we can now see why.

Traveling to Guatemala
Traveling to Guatemala
This video is the beginning of our Guatemala Adventures! On a spur of the moment decision we decided to go live on the shores of Lake Atitlan in the Guatemalan Highlands. It's a place with a beautiful culture, amazing wildlife and towering volcanoes. Guatemala is known as the Land of Eternal Spring because of it's amazing climate, with temperatures always comfortable. When a great deal on plane tickets showed up, we couldn't pass up the opportunity. What better place to have some awesome adventures!
At the beginning of this video you'll get a small taste of some of the wonders of Guatemala, but this is the story of traveling to Guatemala! Make sure to subscribe to catch all of our Guatemala adventures!
For anyone keeping track, this video will mark the first instance of us not numbering our adventures anymore. Our last set of videos (adventures 34, 35, and 36) took place in South Dakota while we were touring the United States. From South Dakota we continued to travel the states for many months and the backlog of adventure videos to edit just piled up. There are some 15 videos still sitting in the queue. Instead of staying in order, we decided to just jump straight to our current destination in Guatemala, and to retroactively post the other videos as time allows. They'll all make it up eventually...but if it appears that we are skipping around the globe, that's not quite the case. Follow us on Instagram and Facebook to see where we are at currently in our travels, and to connect! We love talking travel, and making new friends!

My travels in Guatemala with Audley Travel
Dan visited Guatemala early this year to visit some of the country’s off-the-beaten track destinations and filmed his experience using a GoPro. These included the rural Ixil Triangle were locals still carry on with their traditions from many years ago, the beautiful Semuc Champey pools and the bat cave of Lanquin. As a admirer of volcanoes, his highlight was climbing Acatenango Volcano where he got to watch the neighbouring Fuego volcano erupting every 15 minutes.
