VILNIUS (Lithuania) in 3 days - Citytrip
Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, is a picturesque town with great architecture and an excellent city vibe. Me and my girlfriend went over there in April 2018, to celebrate our 6 years as a couple. This video is a compilation of our trip. More details in this description below.

RECOMMENDED!
- take a Freetour with local guides (
Really, the best way to explore the city and get a good sense of what Vilnius and Lithuanians are all about (2h30min)
- try some zeppelins! (stuffed potato local dish) (greasy, but I liked it!)
- calm yourself with a nice walk in the Bernardine gardens
- get a great view of the city from the Hill of Three Crosses in Kalnu park (search the amphitheater a bit further down)
- get another great view from the campanile of St. John’s Church, right next to the University (also visit this!)
- hang out at the Cathedral square and visit the cathedral. While you're at it, get a selfie with Grand Duke Gediminas
- Gediminas tower's slopes were being fortified during our visit (recent landslide happened), so we couldn't visit it at the time
- learn Vilnius' history in 15 min in 3D cinematic experience (Telia Nemuziejus) ( (also VR booths in the adjacent room)

Hotel we stayed in: Atrium hotel (in the middle of the Old Town)
Authentic vibe, clean rooms, friendly staff. Good price/quality! Excellent location.

Aukstaitija national park, Lithuania
Aukstaitija National Park. Lithuania 2001
Aukštaitija National Park (Aukštaitijos nacionalinis parkas) is a national park in north-eastern Lithuania, about 100 km north of Vilnius. Established in 1974, it is the oldest of the five national parks in Lithuania. At first it was named Lithuanian SSR National Park to emphasize that it was the first such park in the republic. In 1991 four other parks were established and were named after ethnographic regions of Lithuania. The park was renamed after Aukštaitija.
The park covers 405.7 km². Ignalina district municipality controls about 50% of the area. Utena and Švenčionys district municipalities control 25%. Strictly protected areas occupy 2.1%. One can enter this territory only accompanied by a park employee. More than 70 percent of its area is covered by woods. 80 percent of woods are pine stands, some reaching 200 years old.

Realxing in a traditional Lithuanian Sauna
Visiting a sauna is a must when visiting Lithuania. It’s a long standing tradition in Kristina’s family to visit sauna at least once while back home. There’s nothing quite like it on a cold and snowy day. We have a list of local saunas we go to, and they all are around 30 Euros for 3 hours. Once booked, the sauna is heated by the owners to make sure it’s nice and hot on arrival.
The sauna day is all about catching up with the family while sweating all the toxins out in high temperatures. It’s also a day of natural skin care treats, scrubs, clay masks and chilling with a bottle of beer.
You will find saunas all over Lithuania, they vary throughout the country, depending on the region. Some are fancier than others, some have electric modern heaters, others have the traditional heating system - hot stones. But most of the saunas in Lithuania are dry, similar to Russian or Scandinavian. In rural tourism places as well as dry saunas, you might find a steam room in the same building. Mostly indoor swimming pools are available, some freezing cold, some heated. The best are the saunas on the edge of a lake or with a freezing cold plunge barrel outside the sauna. Especially good fun in winter.
You just can’t go to sauna and not have any skin treatments. It’s the perfect time to scrub your skin once those pores are wide open. And you don’t need anything too fancy. Most of the stuff you can make yourself.
Coffee scrub will leave your skin baby soft so don’t waste those coffee grains, use them wisely. If you don’t drink coffee, simply pour hot water over 2-3 tablespoons of coffee. Leave it to sit for some time. I usually make the scrub as soon as I arrive to the sauna and then leave the grains to soak until I am ready to use them.
As I mentioned (or tried to #faceclayfacemask) in the video, clay face mask is the best thing ever for your skin. Clay draws the dirt out of the skin, purifies and detoxifies it. It’s suitable for all skin types and gently cleanses your skin. Mix a teaspoon of clay with a dash of lukewarm water and spread it to your skin. Leave the mask on for 10 minutes and wash it off.
If you are adventurous, mix the clay with other ingredients such as honey, cream, strawberries or bananas. Add a dash of tea tree oil for problematic skin or geranium for balancing properties.
