The city is located 26 km from the ruins of Muaro Jambi, an important city in the ancient Srivijaya kingdom. Nearby towns and villages include Mendalo , Kinati , Padang , Tanjungjohor , Paalmerah , and Muarakumpe . Jambi is served by the Sultan Thaha Airport.
