If you enjoy history and mythology, then you're in for a treat in Podstrana. Believe it or not, King Arthur once lived in Podstrana! Okay, not exactly, but Lucius Artorius Castus did and he is considered to be a potential historical basis for King Arthur by many renowned historians, including the British! Lucius Artorius Castus' sarcophagus was found in Podstrana in the church of Saint Martin. Lucius Castus was a soldier, centurion, dux legionum, and finally a prefect of the Roman navy. After the end of his military career, he was named Procurator of Liburnia, that is the governor of today's Dalmatia.
He truly saw the most of the old world, from Judea, Parthia, Budapest, Italy, and finally Britain, where his victories won him the status of a legend. His final resting place is here, in Podstrana.

Maribor, Slovenia - Travel Around The World | Top best places to visit in Maribor
Top best places to visit in Maribor, Slovenia
Maribor is the second most important center and the second largest city of Slovenia.
Maribor, set amid the wine-region hills of the Pohorje Mountain, is the real Pride of Styria, a traditional region in northeastern Slovenia.
The city’s old town is situated on the left bank of the river Drava. On the Main Square is the Town Hall and... the Plague Memorial, which commemorates the “black death” that devastated the city in 1680.
The Castle Square, the core of city center, is very popular among locals, with the St Florian Statue in the middle and, built in the 15th century, the Maribor Castle.
Next to this, one of the most remarkable architectonic buildings in the city, are the National Liberation Monument and... the ‘Reddish’' Franciscan Church.
The most important sacred temple in the city, the Maribor Cathedral, a Roman Catholic church, stands on the Slomskov Square, one of the most charming places in the city. The small park is surrounded also by the Post of Slovenia, the University of Maribor and the National Theater.
Of the remnants of city walls surrounding the old town, the most prominent are:
The Judgment Tower, a fortified medieval structure.
Built to secure city walls from the direction of the river, the Water Tower.
One of the oldest preserved synagogues in Europe, and one of only two left in Slovenia, the Maribor Synagogue.
And the Old Vine House, a museum dedicated to this 450 year old tree which still gives grapes.
But the real charm of the city is hidden between the lovely streets and squares in the old town.
Despite the relative small size, Maribor has a surprisingly big green space, the Mestni Park.
And a big football arena, the Ljudski Vrt Stadium, the home ground of Maribor Football Club.
The Piramida Hill is a good place to see the city from high up, from the spot the Maribor Castle used to stand, you can enjoy a wonderful view of the whole city.

Alpe Adria Trail, Bovec to Kobarid – Pal Mont
Last December, we hiked five stages of the Alpe Adria Trail, a long-distance hiking trail running through Austria, Italy and Slovenia.
This is the last episode of this series and it shows our fourth day on the trail, on the leg from Bovec to Kobarid (Caporetto), Slovenia. This part of the AAT is particularly beautiful because, while walking through the forests of the Soča Valley, you will pass three magnificent waterfalls. The first one is the Virje waterfall, 12 m high and with an extraordinarily green pool at its feet. The second one is the huge Boka waterfall, 140 m high and 18 m wide, right below the Kanin mountains. It’s Slovenia’s most majestic waterfall, although in winter there isn’t much water (you should come here in spring to see it at its most powerful, when the flow rate can reach 100 m3/s). The last one is our favourite: Kozjak waterfall, not far from Kobarid. To reach it you have to walk upstream in the river bed, but access is made easy by the presence of a wooden trail. The best part is that, while you can hear the thunderous water from quite a distance, the waterfall itself remains hidden until the very last turn of the path. And then you see it; a white stream of water falling in a picturesque stony amphitheatre. The contrast between the black rocks and the sky-blue pool at the bottom make it just the perfect waterfall.
We end this trip with a visit to the Italian ossuary in Kobarid. This memorial monument is a military cemetery built by the Italians to remember the 7014 known and unknown Italian soldiers who died here in the Battle of Caporetto, during WWI.
