Guinea Drone Flight: Guinea is a country in West Africa, bordered on the west by the Atlantic Ocean. Its known for the Mount Nimba Strict Nature Reserve, in the southeast. The reserve protects a forested mountain range rich in native plants and animals, including chimpanzees and the viviparous toad. On the coast, the capital city, Conakry, is home to the modern Grand Mosque and the National Museum, with its regional artifacts. The sandy beaches of the Loos Islands, near Conakry, are backed by thick palm forests. To the north, Cape Verga has popular beach towns like Bel Air as well as more remote, undeveloped beaches. Fouta Djallon is a highland area in central Guinea. It has rolling grasslands, high mountain peaks and layered sandstone formations eroded over time to create jungle canyons and deep gorges. Two cascades combine to form Bridal Veil Waterfall near the town of Kindia. Native wild dogs roam Badiar Transboundary National Park, on the Senegal border. Alcatraz Island, in the northwest of Guinea, is a bird preserve protecting many species. [wikipedia // Google]

Iles de Los in Conakry, Guinea
Iles de Los in Conakry, Guinea
Los Islands, French Îles De Los, small archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean, off Conakry, the capital of Guinea, West Africa. They provide protection for the port of Conakry and include Tamara (Factory), Kassa, Roume (Crawford), Blanche (White), and De Corail (Coral) and several smaller islets. Tamara, the largest (8 miles [13 km] long and 1–2 miles [1.6–3 km] wide), has the highest point of elevation (499 feet [152 m]). Only Tamara and Kassa have sizable settlements (Fotoba and Cité de Kassa). The group, named for the sacred idols (los idolos) found there by early Portuguese navigators, are of volcanic origin and are covered with palm trees.
Bauxite mining began on Kassa in 1949, but supplies were depleted in 1966. Tamara’s deposits were worked from 1967 until they were exhausted in 1972.
In 1812 the British established a garrison on Tamara to control slave trading and piracy; and in 1818 Sir Charles MacCarthy, governor of Sierra Leone, obtained the islands from the Baga tribe. They were ceded to the French in 1904 and became part of independent Guinea in 1958.
Island-hop, hike, and unwind at Iles de Los, a group of islands lying off Kaloum Peninsula. With golden sand beaches, palms, and forested interiors, the islands offer excellent swimming, sailing, and snorkeling opportunities. Hire a private pirogue for the 40-minute ride from Conakry. Discover why many consider the area an inspiration for Robert Louis Stevenson's novel, Treasure Island. Once a center for the Atlantic slave trade, today three islands are inhabited and have elementary amenities, while the remaining four are not. Motor vehicles are not permitted on the islands, but numerous trails provide plenty of hiking. Try the local seafood specialties of this well-known fishing area.

Trekking Fouta Djallon, Guinea Day 1
I had been looking forward to hiking into this part of Guinea since I had first heard of it. The Fouta Djallon is famous for it's craggy mountains, friendly villages and most of all its massive waterfalls. I start my trek by making my way down to a village and then onward to the first of 2 waterfalls I'll see over my 3 day trek.

Women Crocodile in Papua New Guinea | World Curiosities
▶ SUBSCRIBE! Full Documentaries every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday!
North of New Guinea runs the Sepik river full of crocodiles. Today is a very special day, women and men dance around tambaranes, crocodile-shaped bamboo buildings, the creator of heaven and earth to these tribes. This party looks like a festival. The women are not allowed to enter.
The tambaran is a kind of structure usually located in the middle of a village, far from the water when the river overflows its banks. The drawings and decorations represent gods, prophecies, and scenes from daily life.
Tambarans are built out of bamboo and thatched with palm leaves. Also known as boat-houses, they are inhabited by important spirits and village life revolves around them.
Their shape is very reminiscent of a crocodile on the Sepik.
Inside the tambaran men call upon the spirits with ritual music and magic.
It seems that this is a special day… Saint Croc perhaps? The men have put on their best traditional clothes to invoke the presence of their gods.
The tambaran is exclusively for men. No women or uninitiated males are allowed to enter.
They dance around the tambaran to call upon their protective deities.
A real place of worship to a fearsome man-eater. To these people the Sepik crocodile is the creator of heaven and earth.
