Kokkino Nero is a village and beach located at the foot of Mount Ossa in the community of Karitsa, municipal unit of Evrymenes, municipality of Agia, Larissa, Thessaly, Greece. The name, which means Red Water, is derived from the hot springs in the area, which are colored by mineral salts. As of the 2011 census, the village had a population of 95. Within its bounds is the site of the ancient town of Eurymenae.

Dion or Dio is a village and a former municipality in the Pieria regional unit, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform, it is part of the municipality Dio-Olympos, of which it is a municipal unit. It is located at the foot of Mount Olympus at a distance of 17km from the capital city of Katerini. It is best known for its great ancient Macedonian sanctuary of Zeus and city, much of which is visible in the Archaeological Park of Dion and the Archaeological Museum of Dion.

Since 1986, nearly every year, various initiators organize marathons in the Olympus Mountains in Greece. For these Olympus Marathons the classic distance of 42.195 kilometers provides a clue to the distance of some of the runs in the Olympus. Starting in 2010, events established that surpass the classic marathon distance. In some races, runners run over distances of 57 km, 70 km or almost 100 km. At the stations along the route, the runners are provided with drinks and snacks and mostly medical aid. They are offered water, electrolytic drinks, bananas, salty biscuits, sandwiches, chocolates and more. The medical care is provided by rescue services. The fastest runners finishes the race in about four hours.
